What to write about in your blog? Your Passion!

This post was most recently updated on December 18th, 2018

What is Your Passion?

Your passion should be the center of your business. Before you do anything online, first define and clearly envision your passion… your reason for developing your online presence to begin with.

Many “newbies” I have been coaching recently have only barely considered what their passion is. So, naturally, they are confused about how to use their blogs to develop a business. Some have been asking me “What should I write about?” Others wonder “who am I writing to?” The answer is simple: You need to write about your passion. And write to others who share an interest in it.

After some thought, many of my clients tell me they are passionate about their business. But as I probe them to dig a little deeper into their motives, they usually find that the reason they’re involved in a particular business is because of their passionate for what that business has to offer.

You must define the passion first, and only then should you develop a method or business related to it.

If you love to travel, for example, you’ll be most likely to be involved in some sort of travel business. If your passion is travel but you’re involved in a soap business because you think you can make more money there… You are on the wrong track. When the going gets tough… and it always does… it’s only your love and passion for what you’re doing that will pull you through.

So be sure your business coincides with your passion.

It seems like my most recent clients express a passion for their MLMs. So they start their blogs, all excited to share everything they can about it. But again, the passion is not really for the MLM, but what the MLM has to offer.

For that reason, I caution them as I caution you here: don’t write directly about your MLM. And certainly don’t link away from your blog by sending readers to your MLM’s business page. They’re not on your blog to learn about your MLM, but to share in your passion.

Share Your Passion, Not Your Business

So write about things that may be related to your MLM but stick to your passion, not your MLM or any other business for that matter. I am in a health and beauty MLM. Should I write about the company? Of course not. But since health and beauty is one of several passions I have, I will write about … you guessed it: health and beauty!

Your blog must be informative, have good content and have sincere and authentic value for your readers.

Many of you want to help other people in social networking. So what is your specific niche within that broad genre? Is it coaching? Then pass on the most valuable information you have to help people get their blog up, connect it to the most powerful Social Media, and inspire them to take action.

If you are a writer and have a book you are passionate about and want to sell, write things about the topics you cover in that book on your blog and in your Social Media. BE AUTHENTIC! When you are passionate, it will shine through when you write, when you do a video presentation, and when you are chatting with Social Media friends. People will be attracted to you first and foremost because they will sense your passion and want to be a part of it.

Most importantly, once you’ve defined your passion, make it YOUR BUSINESS to share it with others. Passion is the Action!

Passion is what it’s all about! Not only does that make doing the “work” fun, but when we are writing or talking about our passions, the right people are just magnetically attracted to us!

For anyone having trouble getting clear on their passions ~ I highly recommend a book called The Passion Test, by Janet & Chris Atwood!

Thanks for this great advice, Donna!

    For sure Donna!
You know? when I started blogging I also had this conflict about business versus whatever else after a while I discovered that among all the topic I could blog about I ended talking about personal growing and mindset.
And the fact is that I’ve done Yoga for a long time. So every thing was as you said, being business a passion too 🙂 I just had to connect one passion with the other.
    Great post!

    That´s so true, Donna!

When people develop a whole corporate business approach, full of “pushing material” instead of reflections, ideas and passion for “the reasons why”, is usually very difficult for them to connect with other people, and when they do, they risk to lose them due to a lacking of “human empathy” (not sure is this is too Spanglishy 🙂

At the end, we are in “the business of ourselves”; so what inspire you will inspire others and in the meanwhile, we can have fun sharing what we care of in our blogs.

Thanks a lot for your perspective!

    So true Donna,

Figuring out where your passion lies is key to successful blogging. Being true to one’s self will always show through in writing. People can always sense if you are writing just to write or…

…if you are truely passionate about the info you are sharing.

Being passionate will help you reach out and connect with like minded people.

    Thanks for sharing Donna, 🙂

    Hey Donna,

One of the things I always notice about people who are passionate, is their energy and their eyes. Your video shows this so clearly by the sparkle in your eyes 🙂

So many people will benefit from reading this post as being passionate is plays such a large part of your journey on the road to success. It’s something I honestly don’t think you can fake. Energetically people pick up immediately on whether you are aligned with what you are saying you’re passionate about so it’s important to make sure you are promoting something that really does resonate for you.

    Thank you for sharing.

Passion is THE most important aspect to all what we do in our life.
I’ve seen people come to this industry with no knowledge at all and just with their passion they were able to grow and sweep away people to follow them because PASSION IS STICKING.

Everyone should ask themselves about that one question:
whether you’ll be doing what you do even if you wont be paid to do so??
If the answer is yes, then this is your passion.

    Thanks for great sharing, Donna.

Very clear message Donna! This is probably the best advise to give new bloggers. It took me a long time to figure out what I was going to blog about too.

Thank you for doing this series for newbies. This will assist so many of us!

    Aloha,
    Kellie 🙂

This is great advice Donna – figuring out what you love will make writing all of your posts so much easier! If you write about something you are not passionate about you will struggle to get your posts written – and who wants to struggle at anything!
I also just wanted to say I love your video’s – you just go do it – I really want to have that “just do a video” attitude like you do! Thanks Donna!

    Oh so true Donna,
It’s all about sharing your passion with others. Your business is a vehicle towards the passion. Honestly, the only people who will keep coming back if you talk about your business is other people in your business. That will not bring prospects at all. 🙂

Thanks for the great reminder of where to start. Love your series,
    Val
