It is my pleasure to introduce you to my friend  M.Farouk Radwan, MSc.

How to find your passion in life

If you read about the success stories of different successful people you will always find that they had passion for what they did no matter what it was.

While you can succeed in life without having passion still you will have a hard time because you will have no fuel to keep going forward when things go wrong.
The road to success Is full of obstacles and unless you are really motivated to go through it you might either give up or hate your life for doing something that you don’t like.

In brief finding your passion in life is one of the best things you can do in order to achieve success

How can you find your passion?

 •    Try different things: some people can’t find their passion simply because they never try new things. How come you can discover that you are passionate about computers before buying one? One of the keys to discovering your passion is to try new things whenever you get the chance

 •    invest time: many people try new hobbies but never give themselves enough time to practice them. People get busy with work or other stuff in their lives and put their hobbies aside not knowing that these hobbies can the reason for their success later on. When you like a new hobby don’t ever give it up even if you don’t have much time.

 •    What is the thing you are willing to do for free?: after trying different hobbies and giving yourself enough time you practice them you will find one thing that you won’t mind to do for free. Stick to this thing because most probably its your passion!
How to turn your passion into a successful business

Once you find your passion spend more time educating yourself about it.

Start reading more, get more books, practice more often until you become an expert.
Once you become an expert in a certain field you will find it very easy to start a business that is based on it.

Many people make the mistake of trying to force a passion onto themselves and that’s why they  never manage to continue to the end.

For example a person could hear about the success story of a friend then rush to do the same exact thing the friend did without having passion for it. This usually leads to failure.

Find your passion, don’t force one onto yourself

Hi, Donna and Farouk. I love the suggestion of trying many different things. I know there are many who say that we need to focus on just one thing. But sometimes we have to try many different things in order to find the few things to focus on. This is how internet marketing was for me: I tried a lot of different things before I found the current niche I’m now in.

    • Donna Merrill September 4, 2012 at 4:02 pm #

I know how you feel Steve.

It does take a while to fall into the exact niche one is made for. Same happened to me.

I can relate big time to this because when I feel as if I “have” to do something, I lose sight of the end road and bail out when things get rough. But for stuff I am passionate about I don’t even think bumps in the road. To me those bumps look more like opportunities to figure out and in my mind, I am on a road I can’t stop running on. To me, that’s passion! Great post!

    Hello Farouk,

“Nothing great in the world has been accomplished without passion. – Georg Wilhelm”

If you are not walking on the routes of your passion then you’ll make lots of excuses to save yourself form work, you’ll never feel satisfied with your work, you’ll get depressed. But if you are doing things that you love, things that drives you crazy then I’m sure you’ll be successful not today but tomorrow.

If you look at all successful people then you’ll find that they are successful in things that they love to do, things that brings smile on their face. And every successful man has one thing in common and that’s failure. But if you’re following your passion then failure doesn’t matters because there’s always a reason to get back up.

Finding your passion is not the hardest thing to do just think about what makes you crazy, what brings smile on your face, what never makes you bore, what gets you out of the bed easily, and what motivates you to be the best of both worlds.

Once you got your passion then work for it, live for it.

Great post Farouk… 🙂 Take care

    Hi Donna,
    hi Farouk,

great insights. Very often people have a sense for their passions as long as they are hobbies. Trying to make money from something can kill the passion although I am not saying that you should never try to monetize your passions.

    Take care

    Oliver

    • Donna Merrill August 23, 2012 at 6:00 pm #

      Hi Oliver,

Very true! I think we have many passions, but when asked “what would we do for free?” That kind of fine tunes our strongest one!

We don’t have to necessarily make money from them all. But sometimes money just follows.

I am a shop-a-holic. A passion of purchasing things from the mid century. Mind you, I am a minimalist when it comes to my home. So what the heck was I doing? I realized I had too much “stuff” – by chance (lol) someone told me about an antique mall that had space.

I put my stuff in there and it does make some money, but more than that, it gives me a chance to go on a treasure hunt to find these objects which gives me a thrill. Then, I sell them.

Who knew how that would turn out!

Many years ago I found myself running out to play tennis after work. I decided then to pursue a career in teaching Health and Physical Education which proved to be a wonderful career at the college. At the same time, I had always maintained a private counseling practice focused on relationships and sexual/intimacy concerns. After taking an early retirement from the college, I still pursue my physical activities (but no longer teach about them), but I have continued working with individuals and couples to heal through love. That is my passion. The more I work with it, the more I learn and discover and uncover. To me, love is all there is.

Remember me? You did an excellent guest post on my blog too! Hope all is well.

Love this as I build we should all live with passion. A great question to help people to find there passion as you said is to ask them what they would do for free. another way to put it. “If everyone — Janitor or President of the United States — got the same pay of $20 an hour what would you want to do?

Also, it’s very simple but as you said, try different things!!! It’s cool sometimes to find people who have discovered their passion by accident without thinking about a career or taking an skills or interest test!

Passion doesn’t have to mean a cash in product. Sometimes following a passion like singing opens your mind up to new things.

This reminds me of a 30 day video challenge I had joined a long time ago. There was a woman who really was stuck, so she sang instead. By the end of the 30 day challenge, she was talking and making videos that were great.

    Hi Farook,

3 critical points mate 🙂 Really love those 3 of them. Well, last one is my favorite among ’em 😉

Sometimes people think that the current job they are doing is what they are passionate about. But with my life experiences I’ve seen some people took that risky decisions and absorb change to their lives to find their real passion to be more successful than stuck in middle of all the things.

I do really believe your 3 critical factors would be really helpful for ones who are seeking their passion or wait for it 🙂

These days people just chose their fields because of money, don’t you guys agree?

But, I am seeing a difference in it, with more people seeking and finding their passion – to do it for the rest of their lives.

I have found my passion in several different things, over the course of my life. But, now I am focused. I have two options: Biotech or Biochem/chemical engineering (I love biology and technology, so I am probably going to go with Biotech).

And yes, passion should come to us (but, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try, we should, we should experiment and see what interests us), right?

    • Donna Merrill August 23, 2012 at 4:43 pm #

      Absolutely Jeevan!

We have passion but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try! We should experiment and see what interests us.

    Hi Donna and Farouk

I gave up a job I really had no passion for last year. Now, being at home with the kids has given me the chance to explore other avenues, including setting up my blog.

Now, I spend all my spare time getting up to speed, learning new things and just getting to know new people through blogging and connecting with others. I’m trying news things and I enjoy doing it. Maybe it will one day become a passion.

What I really want to get back into is music. I have a degree in classical music but haven’t explored that side of me in years. Maybe now I have changed direction in my life, the time is right.

    Thanks for the advice Farouk.

Hi Donna. I love the idea of having a guest blogger. I’m going to do that one of these days.

‘Passion’ is a word that I have heard over and over since I’ve been in internet marketing. I read a book recently that talked about turning your passion into a business, but he was careful to point out that what you have a passion for might not translate into a business model. That was the difficulty I found when I was working my online music education business. Although I am passionate about music education, it was hard to get other people on board.

I have had to shift my passion and realize there are things about what I am doing now are not my favorites, such as selling. However, I love to write; I love to design graphics; I love helping other people make money; and I have a passion for creating a comfortable retirement for my husband and me. That is the passion that I draw on in my current business.

Thanks for this post, and hope we can talk tonight.

    All the best,

    Leslie

Hey Farouk, great to see you over here at Donna’s place. It’s been awhile.

I know this is really really sad but when I ventured online and kept hearing “do something you’re passionate about” I had the hardest time with that. For one, I’m not really “passionate” about anything. Sad, I know. I love helping people and was always the one my friends called for advice. So I love doing that which is why I geared my blog toward the same thing. But am I passionate about it? I don’t really think so.

I’m just very happy with my life, what I’m doing, where I live, where I am at this stage, etc. So I think as far as I’m concerned, that’s enough. I do love what I do so there ya have it.

I hope you two have a great week and thanks for sharing this.

The great thing about mixing passion and work together is how you’re able to accomplish so much that can actually count as “work”.

While I did have a Job a few years ago that I loved doing, I was ready to leave after my shift and I tried not to think about it once I did.

Now I’ve been working online for almost 3 years and just love it. I work harder, smarter, longer, and find I think of it often. (Just this morning I woke up at 6:00 with an idea I’d been dreaming about for my business and wrote it down to implement today sometime)

I think a key thing that people neglect or overlook when they think about mixing passion with a business is that you still have to be strategic in your planning or you won’t make the progress you need in order to feel fulfilled.

I have a question for you:

I’ve noticed that I’ve had several passions throughout my life Diving, Power Lifting, Internet Marketing, etc. and I find it hard to have more than one at a time. (maybe because each one takes up so much time LOL) Anyway is that common or “normal”?

Thanks to both of you, and “great post” 🙂

      Hi Warren,

As for your question, I think it is perfectly normal to have several passions. I can answer your question with my passions which are Internet Marketing, My Psychic Business whereby I spend a chunk of time each day for consultations, Mid Century Vintage objects: I love to go hunting and finding a mid century chair or anything and fix it up and sell it. That balances me because it is hands-on and so different than marketing. It is a tangible object that I can find, admire, fix and sell. Also Real estate. I love buying low, fixing it up and reselling it.

So you think you have distractions? It is following your passions that is so important. So Dive, lift and market. This will help you attain balance in your life.

Imagine if you took only one of your passions and ignored the rest….It would drive your nuts! lol

I like that idea of asking “what would you do for free”. Because sometimes you have to do it for free, lol…. Seriously though, if it’s something you love then at least you’re enjoying doing it during good times and bad. Business is never perfect so you need those passions to sustain you. It’s definitely important to try new things. I hear people say “Oh, I don’t like doing… (something)” and I say, well, how do you know, you never did it?? Sometimes people imagine how they’re going to feel or think instead of giving something a chance. But if we can explore, experiment and learn we’ll find something! Thanks for bringing Farouk here, Donna. I’d love to go check out his blog now too!

      Hi Carol Lynn,

Farouk’s blog is chock full of information. He will write about something, and has a a book to back it up for further information. That’s what I like about it.

It is a great informational place to go for self help.

As for “what would you do for free?” I like your take on where sometimes people imagine how they are going to feel or think instead of giing something a chance. This creates a block in their growth. If they would only take one baby step to explore something new and give it a chance, a new world would open up for them.

I guess I’m one to explore and experiment. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Very nice to see you have guest writers! My favorite suggestion is “what would you do for free”, I think this is a great way to test what you think your passion is. If it bothers you to do it for free, most likely it’s not for you. But if you love it, you’re on the right track. Nice article, and very nice to meet Farouk!

      Thanks Lesy,

You hit the nail on the head when you say ” if it bothers you to do it for free, most likely it is not for you.”

I do lots for free because it is my passion and I like living my passion.

      Thanks for visiting,

    Hey Farouk & Donna,

My passion has always been webdesign & building websites, I must have made my first one 8 years ago. Remember when Yahoo had geocities, well from then I used other free platforms, bear in mind I was only a kid at the time.

My thoughts were always, this blog/ website looks so cool, I want to be able to do something like that. Lets fast forward to the present day and I’m still doing what I love, it’s not a chore its just as fun as it was all of years ago.

My passion, which I crave for keeps me motivated and allows me to keep on doing that I like. “Passion” never needed to be learnt with me, can I be passionate about other things I don’t know.

So great to hear you are living your passion Simmeon!

Doing what you love never is a chore like you have mentioned. Sometimes I get so carried away I find myself up to 3 a.m. just writing or creating something.

      It is a wonderful life!

    Hi Donna and Farouk

    Thanks for a great post.

I think far too many people are on the treadmill of life and have forgotten what they do love doing. I know I have been there.

I know people who hate their jobs and just live for the weekend. That is sad.

Great advice Farouk on how to find what you are passionate about.

      Thanks Sue!

Farouk has a very powerful message here. I know what you mean when you say people who hate their jobs live for the weekend. To me that is like being in prison!

It takes only one step to do what you love…

      Thanks for visiting,
