Guest Blog Post | Lesly Federici

Guest Lesly FedericiI’ve known Lesly Federici for a long time.  Besides business buddies, we have become friends.  Lesly has a knack for helping others.  She recently started a community of bloggers, which I was happy to join.

Not only is it a  syndication group, but Lesly takes it the extra mile with weekly Google+ Hangouts, learning modules, and even more.  Bloggers in this community learn one key principle:  Reciprocity!

Lesly has stepped up to the plate in creating the Power Blogging and Affiliate Community… so I’m happy to introduce you to her as my special guest blogger today.

So here is Lesly’s guest blog post.

Quality.  Webster’s  Dictionary has the following interpretations of this word:

  • how good or bad something is
  • a characteristic or feature that someone or something has : something that can be noticed as a part of a person or thing
  • a high level of value or excellence

So I started thinking about this…

How important is it to have a “Quality” presence on the Internet and how would I go about achieving it?

As humans, We judge people, things, places, careers, education, food, relationships, geez .. just about everything we see or hear about on a daily basis.

We even make quick decisions based on the “quality” of something and if we like it or not.

And you know what I’m talking about here, right? You might call this the “First-Impression” phenomena which can be awesome or deadly.

But I’m really talking about quality, the “value” you receive from something or from an experience, and the value we get or don’t get from that quality thing can be priceless or disappointing.

The internet is growing up quickly and taking us along with it. With all the changes and growing pains we’ve gone through in recent years as a result, the internet is now demanding – quality.

What was once just searchable data, where websites could scream their links and provide little purposeful content, search engines today are increasing their ability to generate “quality” data with “value” to seekers. Search engines are becoming more like us, judgmental humans.

But unlike real life where “quality” and its value can be cherished and honored, “quality” on the internet, in my opinion, has become a method to determine the usefulness of website content which has led to a ridiculous rise in website/blog content competition.

Have you noticed this?

Quality has become the “Rule of thumb” for any information content promoted on the internet. There’s even a new career for this: “Content Marketing”.

However, there seems to be one arena where the Wild, Wild, West is still alive and well … Social Media Groups.

It seems that quality is not the “rule of thumb”. Rather, it’s random, feverish postings of business opportunities and blog posts that are slamming and dominating the social media scene.

Now I can only speak about Facebook because I spend more time there than any place else. But I would imagine what I see on Facebook is happening on other social media platforms.

So why are groups created in the first place? They usually have a purpose, a cause, and a goal of creating a community of like-minded members, right?

So why do so many of them have thousands of members in them, blasting their opportunities, dropping their links, and the same 25 people participating in the group.

Where’s the quality?

If the overall message of search engines is “Quality” content or you don’t count, then why aren’t people listening and realizing that building relationships on the internet also demands quality networking, not spamming.

People join groups because it speaks to their hearts. Something resonates with them. They see value which enlightens them in some way. They feel part of something they can contribute to and be appreciated for doing so. They want to belong to something and make friends – quality friendships.

So as “quality” grows to be an issue we all have to deal with writing useful, value driven content on our blogs. Why can’t we do this in social media groups.

The answer to my own question –  how can I create a “Quality” presence on the internet?

By making “Quality” my guideline and standard of promotion personally and professionally, and putting people and their interests first.

So, I created a community – The Power Blogging and Affiliate Community on Facebook. It’s a small group where members stand out, where they share their blogs, interests, and affiliate programs. Through weekly contests, Community Hangout’s, and a weekly “Focus” group (to help members accomplish their goals) members participate in a quality environment that is motivating and inspirational.

Lesly, I honestly don’t know how you keep up with all you do! But you do a wonderful job of everything you’ve set your hand to. I feel honoured to know you, and have benefited from some of those pies you’ve got your finger in. 🙂

Quality on social media… what a concept! Focus, and pull together what you are there for… it makes a lot of sense to me. I had a FB group, but never could get through to people the purpose of the group, and I ended up not allowing any members to post to the wall. So… no communication. Not much use in that.

Thank you for your great post!

    Lesly,
I belong to a few groups that I believe have what you are talking about. Great interaction, people that care about one another and people helping each other.

But you still run into where only a few (dozen or so) actually participate. I’d love to hear your views on how you will work around that in this group or if you’ll even worry about it. Thanks for a great blog post!

    Donna,
A quality guest blogger from a quality blogger. That is why I spotlighted you on my latest post. There is so much talent and great people on the internet. Once you get surrounded by the good genuine people who care, the circle keeps expanding.

Hi Donna and nice to meet you Lesly! I believe that without quality, any business is doomed to failure. Quality is what turns mere visitors into buyers and then subsequently into loyal clients. Also, that feeling of helping people, that joy of knowing you have been able to change someone’s perspective or that you have at least contributed to their success can’t be topped by anything.
Thanks for sharing this post with the community and I’m on my way to join that group 🙂

I think many people setting up groups on facebook don’t even think
    1. What value can I offer my members or
    2. What is the purpose of my group.. and review it regularly to see if it is still performing that way. Facebook groups are a living thing and need nurturing.
Tool, tips, and training online are all very well for learning but my 3 success pointers have to be community, support and feedback.
You give all of these Lesly in your Power Blogging and Affiliate Community and your, and the groups Quality shines through 🙂

    Hi Lesley and Donna,

I absolutely love this idea. Lesley, you nailed it; people join groups which resonate with them, or which vibe with their hearts. We want to belong to a group of folks who share similar beliefs and who also care for the well-being of other group members.

People join valuable groups. Your group is valuable, and the content, valuable, because each member cares and you can see this from your invitation page. Folks are big on joining groups of genuine, authentic people who simply want to help each other out, learn from one another, and help each other grow.

I’m so happy to retweet this through Triberr guys.

Thanks for sharing and have a fun weekend.

    Hi Lesly and Donna
In this post I found very true reason of why most of the groups are created at social media. You are right most of them have active participation of a few members while the rest of several thousands remain silent spectator. How come we call such group an awesome community of like-minded people. They may be but their don’t share their like-mindedness and only a few members keep reminding all the members “Hey we are like minded people”.
You well described the term quality and why it is most demanded term at internet. People want quick solution of their problem in which they have to do least and have to spend least. They equally want their solution on just one click of mouse. That is why a combination of reliability, fast speed, credit-worthiness and value has become quality at internet.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful post that itself is of high quality and it is proof of the fact this blog never compromises on quality. Greeting to you both awesome ladies.

      Hi Mi Muba,
Wonderful to meet you here on Donna’s blog … “Like-minded” can be a misleading term because it’s so general, right? You’re right too, people want answers to their problems fast, and this is important as bloggers to remember. Hi Lesly,

Thank you for writing a topic it is so relevant and ignoring in many cases. I am a member of several such groups and not because I enjoy being there but because I was a member of those groups even before I understood that those groups will not about quantity.

Like Harleena mentioned, during a series I used to drop links just like everybody else and move on. But, I stopped doing that because what is the point in dropping links where nobody bothers even to check what others have posted and what value it even adding to myself?

So, I don’t do that anymore.

On the other hand I am part of a few interesting” where people to interact with each other, comment on each other’s blog posts and just encourage each other. I enjoy being part of such groups.

I will be soon seeking out your community on Facebook as well and if Donna has invited you to be our guest author, I am sure that your community must be buzzing.

Thank you very much for coming here and saying hello to us through Donna’s blog. Have a wonderful rest of the week and look forward to learning from you more.

Thank you for the compliments, I appreciate them very much. I am looking forward to having you join us!
I think most of us have done this – dropping links, and like you, you saw nothing happened as a result. So the real magic is developing relationships, just like people do in real life. So it seems today, the internet – as best as it can is trying to “humanize” the technology and set up rules to behave more human. In my opinion, dropping links is “chasing” others and screaming “look at me” .. that never, never works. A sign of desperation will always make people run in the other direction … lol .. thank you for your comment …

Hi Lesly and thank you so much for guest blogging on my coach and mentor Donna Merrill’s blog! And thank goodness I became one of Donna & David’s students!

Otherwise I would never be exposed to people such as yourself! I have to say until I read your excellent definition of “content marketing”, I had been wondering why that type of content it needed it’s own category?

And I couldn’t agree more about the all out spam fest that seems to be going on (more times than not) in a lot of these groups!

It definitely sounds like and appears your group and community is definitely worth seriously looking into!

It’s so refreshing to know there are at leas a few individuals that still value quality!

Yes, things are so competitive with content, a new “job” was created for those who specialize in just content creation… very interesting. The internet is obsessed with this because current information gathering and promoting it keeps an edge and aims to attract “eyeballs”..
For us starting out .. it’s important to stay true to your interests, your passion.. to write about useful information that can help your viewers, and we we always have to remember the visitor is always looking for “how is this going to help me”… so have fun with this. The internet is amazing. I love it. I’ve been online since 1998. Experience is the best teacher so go for it .. Thanks for commenting and come check us out …

Hi Lesly, and welcome at Donna’s. Hi Donna to you too.

I almost missed this post for some reasons, but here I am.

I’ve seen your face on many places over the net before, so you face is very familiar to me.

This is about the third post in less than two weeks that I read about how the quality and value of our content has changed, and how we need to be on top of things these days, with quality content, to have a chance to be noticed.

However, as you said, there’s still lots of trash in social media, and Facebook to me probably being the worst one. But frankly I think that Facebook is spending too much time where they shouldn’t and not enough in making sure that this doesn’t happen or is eliminated. But that’s just me saying.

There is nothing better than building beautiful relationships online. I’ve built some great ones and Donna is one of them. She’s one of the beautiful people I’ve come to know on a more personal level, and have really became friend with. Those who don’t know how to do this are so missing out.

Thank you for this beautiful information and I’ll check out your group.

      Hi Sylvianne,
Wonderful to meet you too! I had no idea my face was everywhere! Social media works ! lol…
Google has forced the “Quality” and “Value” issue for bloggers and that’s a lot of what I see – how to write quality content, is your content valuable to the visitor, and so on. It’s enough to make your head spin. But, they have a point. If you think of your own behavior, I do – why I sign-up for things for example, it provides great insight. People naturally want value. Even those people who drop their links in a group. They just have not been taught how to build relationships online. And guess what, it’s the same as building relationships in real life. And you’re right, so many are missing out … thank you for your comment .. appreciate it

    Hey Donna and Lesly,

Welcome to Donna’s blog Lesly and what a wonderful topic.

I know we’ve crossed paths before but we aren’t frequent visitors to each others blogs. Not exactly sure why but if you’re anything like me then you have so many irons in the fire that it’s hard to be everywhere all the time even though there are a lot of truly amazing people out there that I’m probably going to regret not having paid more attention to earlier.

I want to applaud you for bringing this topic to the forefront. Boy do I ever agree with you on this. I’m not really a part of a lot of groups mainly for this same reason. People just want to drop their links, promote themselves and they’re gone until the next blog post comes out. I love groups because I can meet other bloggers that I might not have gotten a chance to but I also came to the conclusion that if that’s all these groups do then I’m better off finding people in another fashion.

The community that you’ve created sounds wonderful and I’m sure you have a tight rein over those you are in there. I’ve been thinking of starting something myself but want new faces in there since there are already so many people I’m connected with. But finding the ones that really do want to participate and follow the rules, you wouldn’t think it would be that difficult right!

I would love to check out your group but not sure that at this particular time I could fully commit so I’m not going to be one of those that drops in and you have to kick out. LOL!!! Oh no, not me but I’ll give it some more thought. I really would love to make some new connections though.

Quality relationships is what it’s about to me and as I continue moving forward with my blog and my business, they are the things that have kept me going and made me realize I couldn’t get to where I am without them. I’ll also get quite a bit further because of them too. You can’t beat that at all.

Thank you ladies for sharing this great topic with us and I wish you the best with your community Lesly.

    Hey Donna and Lesly,

I’ve met Lesly last year when she was just getting group up and rolling. I do have to say that the group has been progressing a lot. Especially within the last couple of months.

But yes, “Quality” is the best word to describe the group. I haven’t been on any of the hangouts, but from the content that is shared and the support you get out of the group is incredible! I’ve ask Lesly personally for different things, and she was right there to help me out and point me in the right direction. I really appreciate her for that.

But yes there’s a lot of groups where they just share their opportunity and have no interaction at all. Not even to the point where the members go to each other’s blog, which defeats the purpose. If there’s no type of interaction, then stagnation will be your best friend.. This was a big lesson learned for me!

Thanks for sharing this reminder! We all need it sometimes!

      Hey Sherman ..
How nice of you to comment on my post and thanks for the kind words too. Appreciate it! You raise an important point about “stagnation” the online kiss of death I think. If you sit back and do very little, nothing will happen, relationships you started to build will fade. You have to stay in constant motion online. This is where a lot of people go wrong.. they join groups, drop their links and they think it’s enough, it’s not. Quality in everything you do online now really demands your attention .. you’re awesome Sherman!

    Hey Donna!

Love your site and your work 🙂

Fantastic to see Lesly here as a guest author on your blog – and what a great post too!

I have known Lesly for exactly a year this week as she first welcomed me to ‘Game of Tribes’.

The PAC that Lesly mentions here is amazing and the community spirit that Lesly has worked hard on creating and maintaining is brilliant.

    Hi Donna and Lesly,

Nice to meet you, Lesly! Had not heard of you till now, so am certainly pleased that Donna invited you to be her guest today. 🙂

I do agree with you that there seems to be a lot more blogs focusing on trying to raise in the ranks to be considered an authority site with valuable content.

When I first got started I did the very best I could with the skills that I had at the time, however, as time progressed and as I grew in knowledge and skills, I put forth much better content.

Producing high-quality content has always been a goal in the forefront of my mind as I consider topics to discuss that will help people solve their problems.

You’re right. Quality is lacking in Facebook groups – For sure!

I’ve been added to many private Facebook groups because I have bought a course, a training program or course, webinar recording, etc., and being part of a private group comes with the purchase.

Some I stay in, and others I leave – depending on the relevance of the group at that specific time to my business endeavors.

I’m trying to build up my organic search traffic yet will get over to your group to have a look. 🙂

Thank you for this thought–Inspiring article, I really appreciate your insight.

    Have a wonderful evening.

      Hi Carol,
Nice to meet you too! Yes, private groups can be a great benefit, a bonus, from programs.. It’s the mix of people that make groups interesting or not and also the people who run them. Personally I think starting your own group helps to build a following, people get to know you, and you create quality relationships … I hope you do come visit us! Thank you for reading the post and commenting …

Well said Lesly and congratulations on your new group! I must admit I’ve backed off from most of the groups I joined – quality is certainly a factor, but (for me) a bigger issue are the spammers. I don’t envy group managers – particularly in Facebook groups. They post the rules and reminders and still people join and within minutes spam the group. The few groups I belong to now do an exceptional job of keeping these people out and retaining the quality of the communication flow.

Thanks Donna for giving us the opportunity to visit with Lesly and learn about her group!

    Hi Donna and Lesly,

It’s great to come to know Lesly through your blog Donna. I just checked out the link about the PAC and I listened to the video and it sounds interesting. I will have to check out your group sometime.

Yes, quality is everything in the internet space or outside it. It is very important to provide quality and be all about quality to stand out in this noisy world we live in today.

I agree with you about Facebook groups. I joined several with the aim to get and give quality but unfortunately it turned out to be all spammy and no one really wants to build relationships. I tried commenting on some of them but I didn’t find any answers to my comments so I just stopped as I discovered it to be a waste of time.

Thanks Lesly for the great reminder to pursue quality as it is the most important element in our businesses and our life in general.

Thanks Donna for having Lesly write such a great post for all of us. You both, have a great week ahead.

    Be Blessed,

      Hi Neamat,

Thank you, and it’s an honor to be here on Donna’s blog! I’m getting my 15 minutes of fame .. 🙂 Yes, it’s sad that goes on in groups – no response to your comments. I make it a point to respond and encourage members to do the same. Most people just don’t know what to do in groups and I think the managers set the tone. I have a rule in mine that I stick to – no participation for a month you’re removed. You always have the option to join again, but value comes from interaction within the group and that’s important to achieve for all members to experience if possible …thank you for your comment, I appreciate it

Hi Lesly, and welcome to Donna’s blog 🙂

You are so right about all that you wrote – quality counts, and without it you are no where. It could be the quality we talk of in clothes, food, and our blogs.

I agree about the Facebook groups, being a member of many of them. But I hardly have the time to stop and read all the posts there, though just as everyone does, you just drop the links and move on. Yes, some of the groups have rules we need to follow and you need to interact, share, comment and really be a part of people there, and such closed groups are nicer for interaction and building relationships. I think the bond you make in such groups goes a long way – much beyond our blogs. I’d surely be checking out your group too.

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead, both of you 🙂

      Hi Harleena,

I know exactly what you mean. But, I have learned if you want to have a successful business online, you have to make it happen. And you do that by building relationships first. It takes time, but the time it takes usually gives the best in return. So many people are “screaming” their opportunities that I don’t think they realize they’re turning people away. People respond to those that are genuinely interested in them … I agree with everything you said … and thank you

Hi Donna, first off I want to complement you on the look and feel of your blog – it looks fantastic! It’s been a while since I visited – it’s so nice to see your fresh look as well as your choice of guest blogger, Lesly Federici.

I agree 100%, Lesly definitely has a gift for helping – I should actually say serving, because that’s exactly what she does for the blogging community.

To Lesly – your thoughts about quality content are so important and cannot be emphasized enough to content creators. We should always be mindful of the value that we want to contribute – it’s essential to a successful business as well as any relationship we want to nuture. As a beneficiary of your amazing work, I want to thank you for your continuing insight, help and support and for always keeping it real.

    Cheers!

Wow it is sure great to connect with you! Thanks…I did change up my blog so that it can be more clean. The best choice I ever made lol!

Yes, Lesly is a person that serves. She is so creative and yet, always serves in the community. This is why I just had to have her as a guest, especially since she developed the PAC community.

Yea the PAC (Power Affiliate Club) is pretty exciting. We now have over 70 affiliate links! We encourage members to shop from members… we have some Expert Authors sharing their knowledge and we’re building an educational, support site for our affiliate members…. all you need is an idea .. then when you implement it .. it takes on a life of it’s own. Monna Ellithorpe had the idea, I just made the website happen …

      Dena-Lynn,
      How is my lovely Dena-Lynn,
I am so glad to see you post here… thank you! And thank you for your kind words… Starting out in blogging and creating a presence online is a journey and it took me a while to get on this path. First it was being comfortable with being uncomfortable to start a group on Facebook because I wasn’t sure about how to manage one! I’m in several and the lack of interaction is bothersome to me. So, it takes work, and discovering ways to get members involved can be a challenge. And when members participate they get a lot out of it… So when I read your feedback, it confirms I’m on the right track.. nothing warms my heart more than helping others …

    Donna,

I have also known Lesly Federici for a few years and just like you, she has continually provided quality content while always willing to help others. The Facebook community Lesly has created is special. Everyone is encouraged to participate and to reciprocate. There is no spamming and no free rides. Each member has the responsibility to respond when others comment on their writing and to take the time to read their blogs and share their content. And we laugh and support each other in the hangouts. And she is always innovating, adding videos and contests and providing a sense of home to all the members.

    Warmly,

      Hi Erica,

What I love about her group is that there is no spamming! So many groups “drop and run” with their posts and never reciprocate. Not here!

Leslie is so innovating. I love the videos she adds and the contests she runs. And of course,
      The Google+ Hangouts she runs.
