Building Trust

This post was most recently updated on July 28th, 2016

Trust BuildingBuilding trust underlies everything you do online.

You could be a blogger, a biz-op team leader or an affiliate marketer.

In every instance, if you are not actively building trust among your followers, then you are bypassing the opportunity to build your business.

So what is the best way to build trust?

In a recent article, I wrote about a concept I called “awesome authority.”

Many people showed  interest in learning more about the actual process of developing awesome authority in their business, as I point out in this little 1 minute video.

The Process of Building Trust

Here’s a quick glimpse of how to use “awesome authority” for building trust.

Let’s say your business revolves around offering products and services for writers of fiction.

So, you develop a 6-week course called “How To Be A Published Author.”

The Authority Approach

Here’s a promotional method that you might use to assert your authority, so that budding writers will be interested in enrolling in your course.

You create a sales page that looks something like this…

Join me in this course so you can learn how to become a published author.

I’ll show you how to

…develop plots on multiple, parallel levels
…employ open loops that will compel your readers to read further
…create characters that connects to your readers’ deepest emotions

I have written 13 published books, over 40 articles and 6 television scripts.

So I know this business inside-out and I’ll teach you all the secrets in this course.

Okay.

That’s a standard “I’m an authority and so you should learn from me” kind of promotion.

It’s a very common way to use your authority to persuade people to do business with you.

Awesome Authority

Now using this same example, here’s an alternate method to start building trust with your prospects using an “awesome authority” approach.

Hi, I know you’re here to find out how to get published as a writer of fiction.  You may think it requires months, even years of training and preparation.

Well, how’d you like to short cut the process and publish your first work right now.

This may not be what you want to write, but a real author has to learn to write first… write the perfect story, article or novel later.

So, complete this opening right now:

He staggered over to his bedroom curtain, and parted it ever so slightly.  The sun streamed in, assaulting his sleep-worn eyes with the reality he had to face.  He knew this day would come, and finally, it had.

I want you to write less than 500 words.  It’s Chapter 1 of your first publication.

Submit it here, and I will publish it on my “new authors… works in progress” blog site.

See yourself in print for the first time and let’s see how it looks.

I don’t want you to think too deeply into this process.  Consider it more of a stream of conscious effort, not a well thought out storyline.  I want you to feel the process more than think through it.

As soon as you’ve made your submission, I’ll send you the details of the 6-week course I’m putting together to help you build on this process to become a real author, polished and published.

Now this may not be an example that you can resonate with, but I think you can see the difference in methods.

In the first  “authority” case, I’m establishing myself as an authority figure.  I’m hoping that you will want to learn writing from me because I’ve stated what you’ll learn, and why I’m the person to teach it.

In the second “awesome authority” case, I’m showing you how I can help you become a published author by… helping your become a published author.  Instantly.  You don’t have to take a leap of faith.  You just saw, with your own eyes, how I can help you achieve your goal.

Now, that’s all about building trust.

And we’ve already struck up a relationship, so you don’t need me to start rambling about how great I am… which will usually lead you to wonder if you could ever reach that level of authority.  I’ve set the bar too high, and you may feel intimidated and defeated before even giving it a try.

This is just one little example of how the process of awesome authority works toward building trust.

If you’re interested in applying this approach to your online business, check out my upcoming “Awesome Authority Webinar.”

Well Donna, this post was exactly what I needed and was looking for!

I am getting ready to launch a new product and “awesome authority” is exactly what I need to focus on right now. This post is brilliant!

How we present ourselves to the world is so important, Building trust should be easy if we just be genuine, authentic and give real value. We have to identify who we are trying to help. What do they need to succeed? What are their challenges? Figure that out, and they will help you establish “awesome authority.”

Everything I read here is so beneficial and my followers and potential clients will benefit!

Thanks for sharing all your juicy tidbits Donna!

I loved your article on Awesome Authority, and also your video and example here in this post. I can definitely resonate with your scenarios above and the feeling of trust shines through in the second one.

As you say, it is your readers that establish your authority, but… just the feeling between them both when reading crosses a barrier in the reader

Saying you are an authority and showing are two very different things – I wonder if believing you are is the essence that comes before writing scenario 2 … then we have no need to tell people!!

Very thought provoking Donna, the way we use language can make all the difference..

Love your blog… Thank you for another marketing Gem 🙂

      Hi Jacs,

To have Awesome Authority I believe comes from people and not yourself. We can put out content, help others, produce products and services and work our butt off.

But the focus has to be on what people need. Give them that and help them along. They will become your loyal customers.

All I do is keep on working at it and if people see me as an authority great. If they don’t that’s ok too!

    Hi Donna,
    very interesting post!

Building a solid online reputation may take a lot of time and efforts.
Being real, honest and kind is the way, in my opinion, to speed up the process.

I also think that there is a connection between how we behave online and how we are offline.
    Good karma always pays off.

    Thanks for sharing Donna.

GREAT post Donna! Building trust in any relationship is essential. Building trust with your customers/clients is the essential key to succeeding in business.

I love the two examples of building authority. With so much noise on the Internet today, it is necessary to carve out your piece of the pie by offering value, authenticity, and compassion for your readers and clients. Showing them the true you is so important. They have to feel like they know you before they begin to trust you.

I love this quote that you said “In every instance, if you are not actively building trust among your followers, then you are bypassing the opportunity to build your business.” It’s so very true!!

Again, great article. Thank you for sharing!

    Hi Donna,

I agree that it is imperative to build trust. I do not recall who I got the idea from that building trust is just like going on a date but I love it.

Like going on a date, we are getting to know someone who we are interested in. You don’t expect the guy to ask you to marry him the first date. In marketing hat means you don’t ask your new friend to give you their money before you’ve got to know them a little better. But, at the same time, if you’ve shown interest in someone and he doesn’t call you within a few days, you’ll pretty quickly come to the conclusion that he’s not really interested. Imagine you hear nothing from him for a few weeks and then you receive a call totally out of the blue. Maybe you’d be delighted but chances are you’d be pretty annoyed that he didn’t follow up right away.

That’s exactly the principle I apply to my email marketing. As soon as someone has shown that they are interested in me and my message, I need to follow up with a few more “dates” – or touch points- so that they get to know me better. These touch points are all about building trust and establishing your reputation.

      Hi Rachel,

I love that analogy. It is like going on a date. We don’t expect the guy to pop out a diamond ring and as us to marry him. But we take time to get to know each other. Each date we reveal a little bit more about ourselves, our likes, dislikes, what we do, what we are passionate about.

This analogy is fantastic to keep in mind when we are building our business. Especially through email marketing.

      You are brilliant!

    Hi Willena,

Yes, that is what we need to do – give someone one task to do. Take action! That’s the key. When a person does that, they feel the sense of encouragement, accomplishment. It is a great feeling. Now we can go to the next step!

Helping others by baby steps, I find is a great experience for both teacher and student.

    Hi Donna,

Something else you’ve done in your “awesome authority” example is, you’ve given your prospective buyer/client/student something to do to prove he is coachable. Something beyond just filling in an email address. You’ve challenged him to show you he is a good candidate for your course by following your instructions and writing those 500 words. If he does that, and shows himself to be a reasonably capable writer, then you can be pretty sure you have a good student to work with.

    Hi Leslie,

I love the analogy you gave by being a pianist. It is the same thing all around. It’s not about us being a know-it-all in our niche, because that would be unrealistic anyway lol.

Yes, we have to give others what we know to help them along.

    Thanks for visiting,

Hi Donna. I think that a lot of times we are trying to build trust and authority, we underestimate what we know and what other people see that we know. I know as a pianist, people think I can play anything, and I suppose that would be true if I lived long enough. However, since it would take me a year to learn to play a Beethoven sonata well, I probably can’t play everything 🙂 To some others, though, I’m an amazing pianist, even though I feel unworthy of the kudos.

It’s the same with anything. You don’t have to be the biggest know-it-all in your niche. You just have to know enough to help other people get what they want. So we can stop being wall flowers and let the world know what we know. Thanks for a good post.

    All the best,

    Hi Donna!
Thanks for tips in your post. It was so helpful to see the difference between the two difference authority approaches.
Trust is so important. I realize even for myself as a consumer, I like to do business with people that I trust and provide great customer service and are not just in it to make a buck.
As for me, I love sharing information with others that has helped me in building my business online. If I can shortcut someone’s time to getting to their goal, that is my aim.

    Hi Donna,

What a great topic! I couldn’t agree more – it DOES underly everything we do online.

Yes, I read your awesome authority article when it came out, and it was enlightening to say the least. Cool that you got a great response and decided to elaborate on it via webinar.

I like the contrast of the two types and how you’re selling yourself in the first one, and selling the reader to themselves in the second one.

    Great engagement technique also.

The old adage still holds true, “They’re not going to care about what you know, until they know how much you care.” So, first I reach out, caring for the person I come into contact with, whether it’s a new subscriber or reader/commenter on my site. That goes a long way to them seeking out my knowledge and help in my area of expertise.

Great article, Donna, and I appreciate you sharing it. Telling my friends now… 🙂

    Donna,
thanks for your great writings here about trust… I truly believe that trust is huge in anything we do and say or for that matter who we are as well.

As you may already know about me, being genuine is what I truly do when I write and or when I talk or meet with people.. and that my friend, made a huge difference in so many ways and so many times along my journey..

I usually get this strange looks.. and I know what that is and right away I say.. your looks tell me that you cannot believe this to be true or something like that.. and after that I add.. I ted=nd to say what I need to say.. and if it sound like it is not true is because you may be used not to hear the truth.. so with me, you have to get used to it since I say what it is as it is..

My genuinity of the way I express the above (as an example) right away create a bond between me and the other person and from that moment on.. we understand each others much better knowing I am genuinely say what it is and I mean it.

I know my comment here does not address all the great points you described, but since I felt like commenting this way, hope it make sense and made you smile hahah 🙂

Thanks so much for your contribution to make this world a better place for each and everyone who get to know you.

You ALWAYS make me smile! When you talk about “strange looks” I just had to laugh because I get them too. That’s being ourselves…unique individuals. Those that may look at us like we have 10 heads can just keep on going.

But on the other hand, as we say what we want and live how we want, there are people who are attracted to us..and then that seed of trust begins.

You ave genuine! I love when you write about your story on your blog…From where you were born, the struggles you overcame and where you are now. You have many lessons for all of us.

Oh yes, my little video is genuine too. I had to drag David in there with me he he he.

      Hi Sue,

We never quite consider ourselves as an Authority. Rather it comes from our readers. When people keep returning to our blog and learn something that is helpful, they see us as an authority.

When we market a product/service, we need to have that trust level engaged with our buyers. Only then, when they seen our work, what we do and social proof, will they consider purchasing something from us.

It is all about our engagement with others. BTW I consider you an authority my dear!

    Hey Donna,

Like always you are the one to bring a new topic.;)

It’s always recommended that people should build trust for their business but the main point arises as how can they do that?

You have the perfect answer for them. The example you have given are great but many people may not differ in both until they read you last words.

Showing yourself as an authority can’t bring customers because don’t really like self-boosting people.
As you have mentioned in your second example that people should try to show their ability by which they can help others is the key.

    Such a marvelous post.:)

You know about 2 weeks ago i went on vacation, and I would have to say that particular post was the key to the lock I had on my mind. it really unlock the doors for me to come up with some new ideas of what i can do to conjure up some interests through blogging, email marketing, social media, and more.

I came up with the idea of being more relatable, creating a bridge of comfort and not showing the i’m this big authority and making others question if they can do what I do as you mentioned. It’s about meeting people halfway so that you can guide them to their success.

Thanks for sharing and hope you’re having a fantastic week!

      Hi Sherman,

Wow! I am so happy to hear that my last post inspired you. It sure is about people, not us. We can have all the tricks of the trade, but we need to listen.

Some people are new and need to even know the terminology we use as bloggers and marketers. I know I struggled with that at first. And I still do when it comes to technology.

Others may be online a long time and need a new approach. It is all about our customer! Once we give them one little thing to do, make sure they do it and follow up, then praise them for doing it, it is a huge accomplishment for them. They feel more confident and it is up to us to help them do that.

We are all unique. Each of us has a different way of communicating. That, we must keep in mind.

I’m thrilled that you thought about the post I wrote on your vacation Sherman!

    Hi Donna

I observed your each post has not only very useful info but it equally has certain revelations on a point which many people don’t know.

How you linked the trust factor with authority and then awesome authority proves itself that you have vast knowledge on your subject and you can communicate it so well equally.

It is widely said you can start a business without trust but can’t run it without trust factor. It takes years to build the edifice of trust and just one mistake can completely collapse it. So the mistakes which may directly bring cracks in trust of your customers must be treated unforgiveable sins in online marketing.

What bloggers do? They provide value to their readers. How they put value in their contents. They search the info, tips and tricks which their readers don’t know earlier and equally will benefit a lot to them. That is why what a blogger advise his audience follows his advice because of the trust factor.

      Hi Mi Muba,

A business is always started and can keep on going with the trust factor. Once people are let down, especially by customer service, or not answering their questions, and especially not listening to what they want to hear, the business fails.

One wrong move and things can surely come to a quick ending. We can see it with big corporations and the small starter blogger.

It doesn’t matter what the niche is, as long as we “listen” to people and give them the best content we can.

Trust can begin on our blogs. When marketing ads, it begins when we start engaging on our emails. We don’t sell sell sell…but rather do as we would on our blog. That 80/20 rule works fine.

I thank you for your trust in me professionally and personally. It means so much coming from you because I do feel the same way. You are a great businessman!

The awesome authority example is very powerful Donna. It made me feel like I want to sign up now! Trust is a huge thing and the way that the second example positions it makes it feel like you’re giving me something of worth. The first example doesn’t.

When it comes to building trust with readers and followers, I do what Steven mentions and be myself. I also regularly have email conversations and help them out with stuff behind the scenes. I’ve recently started sending a personal email once a week to my subscribers (with absolutely no links) which has helped with engagement tremendously.

      Hi Tim.

Yes Trust is a very huge thing! It is the old Know Like And Trust factor that brings in business. We can stand on our heads, doing other stuff, but it all comes down to engagement.

We can only be ourselves, and when we are there will be people who will like us and some that won’t. It all comes down to attraction marketing whereby we know deep down that we will get followers and not look at the numbers. Sure, numbers are great, but the question is: Who do WE want to work with?

I find that the folks I do work with are pleasant and it is a great experience.

Email conversations are great! This is where we can really engage with people. There is nothing worse than getting sales emails from people all the time.

We have to give them some tid bits of information, share a story or two, ask them questions and so on. Just like we would if we were having a cup of coffee together.

And once in a while, give them a link.

    Hi Donna,

Making people feel like they too, can succeed in their niche of choice, by sharing your expertise in a level manner, is the best way to build a bond, and to develop the awesome authority you’re sharing with us.

It’s like, you may reach down to help someone up after they’ve stumbled or are struggling but if you’re telling them that they need you, and that they’ll never pick themselves up without you, because you’re the expert, the know it all, who is the only way, because of all your accomplishments, well, how can you connect with that person.

I recalled receiving a phone call from a guy some 3 years back. Classic case of an ego run amok. He was a jerk, first off, and very confrontational, and then when I said we weren’t a business match he ratted off a bunch of business accomplishments.

He earned millions online, blah blah blah….I didn’t doubt him and appreciated his success, but I asked him, if all you do is talk about yourself all day long, how do you have any time to help me.

Dead air. The slick talking snake oil seller was at a loss for words. I found it funny.

Be on a level with someone. Just because someone’s never left their home town or county doesn’t mean I’m some kind of world traveling expert for them, or some guru. I share my journey, to show that folks from any background can do what I do, because I’m on the same level with everybody, as they are with me.

Love your post Donna. Would watch the video but the internet here is a bit spotty in Fiji today….oh well, 1 drawback 🙂

    Thanks so much.

      Hi Ryan,

Thanks for sharing that story about the slick talking snake oil seller. I cannot tell you how many times I have encountered that! Me Me Me…Look at me with my big check!

Not the best way to build trust! I do find it funny when someone approaches me and talks about money they made.

How the heck can it be possible for me to do the same thing? We are all unique and have our own way of communicating to others.

It’s not only about building trust, but goes way beyond that. Listening to others is number one, ergo, this second part of the blog I wrote. People wanted to know more, so here I am.

Then others wanted me to teach them so David and I put together a webinar…still tweaking it as I write lol.

Awesome Authority is something that people say about you. It is not look at me…I’m the most awesome authority on X.

It takes time, learning curves, but most of all persistence.

Thanks for sharing the snake oil guy…I got a kick out of it.

    Hi Donna!

I love the idea of not just telling, but showing the reader exactly what you can give them– especially when what you’re offering is AWESOME, like what you described!

In my experience, trust these days is a lot less about credentials and a lot more about willingness to help. I’ve been offering free consulting help as well as networking opportunities to my little tribe and have definitely gotten a lot greater response than anything else I’ve tried– but it’s a work in progress.

The only way to achieve Awesome Authority is by people following you and saying it about you. One cannot label themselves that.

    Hey Donna,

    Great post and video.

Trust is always going to be a major thing that every blogger should be aiming for with each and every post they come out with. The examples you gave are perfect. You can really tell the difference between the two and how awesome authority can really work to ones benefit.

It isn’t enough to just let people know your credentials and expertise in something, you have to show them that and also show them how you can help the achieve whatever it is they’re trying to achieve.

If I were to position myself as an authority in a niche, I would use that awesome authority methods because I’m all about helping people and to be able to show them how would have more of an effect and build trust more.

    Great stuff.

      Hi Andrew,

We can have all the credentials in the world, and have so much knowledge, but if we don’t share it with others, what’s the use?

On our blogs, we pump out information to others, not for ourselves. As we go along blogging, people start to recognize the information is valuable and so the know like and trust factor begins. From there, they may sign into our newsletters, emails and so forth.

That’s where we really have to give them good information. Something simple to do so they can feel like “I can do that!” And then they start to gain confidence within themselves. Little by little, they can reach their goals.

I like to make things simple. I’ll never forget when I first started, how overwhelmed I was and how there was so much conflicting information, I almost quit!

The only way we position ourselves as an authority is not by us saying it, but rather others.

BTW The webinar is going to be 4 p.m. EST but it also will be recorded because I know there are too many time differences around this planet! lol

What a real cool video! 🙂

Thanks for explaining how an Authority works. For me, I’ve never really claim myself as an Authority. Just yet. I think that it takes time before coming to this term. You can be an Authority right away because it takes “your own” experience in such thing before becoming one, Right?

So you created your own term, your own invention of the word — Awesome Authority!! This is great. Yeah, I think this is Donnaism. I couldn’t agree more. What a perfect example you’ve given there.

Authority is something that is achieved with time and knowledge. Awesome Authority stresses on giving.

It is not something that happens overnight…nothing does in reality. But rather, staying on point, persisting your goals and most importantly spending a good percent of your day learning.

Time and patience is the key to develop this. But, we must learn the methodology too! This is why I created this blog and my webinar. Just because people were asking me.

Both your examples are superb, because they really show the difference between giving the minimum to try to build authority and giving a lot, and really standing out not only as an expert, but someone who cares.

I tell you in this world of no one cares, when someone does it’s quickly noticed, and people will flock to that person.

I remember a few years ago when the influx of bloggers came in and they were spouting out to be experts and gurus. I kept asking them, “Who said you were?”

They were offended, but then I said, “You can definitely give yourself a title, but until other people say you are an expert or guru, then it means nothing. You need to build their trust first, and then they might consider following and eventually telling others that you are the real deal.”

A lot of times I could care less even if my own best friend recommends someone. It’s not until I read, hear, or see it myself that I can believe it.

So true that people can name themselves “gurus” You are spot on when you mentioned that you need to build their trust first, and then they might consider following and telling others that this person is the real deal!

I always counted on word of mouth! In my off line business, I never advertized a day in my life. Instead, it was word of mouth that still has clients coming in. It was people chattering that had me invited to talks, being interviewed in the newspaper, and on talk radio.

All I ever did was my thing. My attitude is if you like me and I can help you fine. If you don’t that’s fine too because the reality is we can never please all of the people all of the time.

    Hey Donna,

I have to agree with Kumar, that was a phenomenal example you used. I can totally see the difference too and that was a brilliant way to show this. I love that someone said this is a Donnaism term. It sure is my dear.

I also have to agree with Steven when he said that he does this by being genuine. I think people can tell or maybe not if they’ve never met you before but in all honesty, I get turned off when people are throwing in my face how great they are because that’s how most of that marketing comes off. I’ve done this and this and this and you need to learn from me because I’m so great.

Well you might be the smartest darn person in the world about that given topic but I probably would find you stuffy, unapproachable and hard to understand so woo me with your words and I’m in. Yep, I’m more a sap in that way and I admit it.

There is nothing worse that someone throwing something in my face…especially with a big check lol…..Then tell me I did it and you can too.

Well, truth be known, everyone is unique. If we are going to teach someone some “how tos” in the business, we first have to see who they are, what their goals are, how much money they can spend, etc.

Then give them one sticking task to do. Explain how it all works, and make sure they do it! After that, another, and another until they reach what goals they want.

Yes, I too agree with Steven about being genuine. I’m the first to admit it too, because I don’t know everything…heck, no one does. But if a client has a question I cannot answer, I’ll find the answer to it and reply.

Both your examples are great, but I LOVE the second one. The first example I feel like I’m being “sold.” Anyone can claim to be an authority, especially online…people claim to be all kinds of things they are not. 🙂 The second one is great. It is really a call to action. It makes the reader want to get involved. It makes them feel like it is now about them, not about somebody just wanting people to sign up for their class. Excellent example!

So true…anyone can claim to be an “authority” on line. But with a few searches, one can find there is nothing to back them up. One has to be at it a while in order to have social proof.

A call to action is something I always do when working with a client. One little thing to accomplish, then confidence starts building. From there, they quickly learn to apply the next thing they have to do.

    Hi Donna,

What a fantastic example of how to build trust by solving someone’s problem or helping them achieve their dream.

Talking about yourself only tells someone what you’ve done. It doesn’t say how you would help them. It is filled with me, me, me…. “me” won’t get “us” very far, will it?

In your second example, when you go about solving someone’s problem or helping them you are talking with them about what they are going through. You identify with them and then you help them understand that by explaining the problem you offer the solution.

The focus shifted entirely from you to them. By doing so you established yourself as a real authority. You indirectly establish your authority because you can write so deeply about it from an experiential position. It’s not something you can just make up. So you are talking about your experience and expertise, just indirectly as you put the focus on them.

Isn’t that how every marketing and sales process really works? Especially if you’re good and successful at sales.

This was a fantastic article and I related to it extremely well. I’m so appreciative of what you have done here!!!!

I hope this is just the start of an incredible week for you Donna!

      Hi Don,

Thank you for your super comment! Yes, it is all about the people we help. When marketing, we need to focus on the individual – where they are at in their life, how much time they can spend, where is there passion and so on.

It’s all about marketing Don. As we go out to the market place, we need to communicate to people in a very short time that we really do want to help them out.

The focus has to be on the person and never….ever be on us.

There is nothing worse than doing the “me” thing. One of my pet peeves is “look at me with my giant check!” What the heck does that do? Follow the leader? Not everyone can.

Each person has their own individuality. Their own voice and passion, It is getting them to come out of that shell and helping them to position themselves into authority.

Great article and advice Donna. Your approach makes perfect sense, and I’m sure your webinar will be “awesome”. I also think that your blog, social media visibility and consistent message has established a foundation for trust with your customers. The verbiage and approach you use with your training is taking the authority you’ve already established here and online out to the customer. I make this point because it’s pretty common these days for people to run a search online to look for reviews and validation before making a commitment so yes, the pitch is very important, but so’s doing the work to establish credibility.

      Hi Marquita,

Thank you for your kind words. Whenever I purchase a product, I do look up that person. Go to their blogs, Google them and so on. If I see there is not much going on, but a sales pitch, I shy away.

On the other hand, If I see that a person has “walked the walk” I do follow. Because of my last post of “Awesome Authority” many emailed and pm’d me to know more. Ergo…David and I put together this webinar.

My goal is to help people…so this is why I pay close attention to feedback I get. It will be a bit intense, but it is always recorded to go back to later and take steps toward creating that “Awesome Authority.”

      Thanks again,

    Hi Donna,

I don’t think any of us can move further nor progress when we don’t have the power to trust people, nor the ability to build trust 🙂

I loved the way you shared both the examples and the short video, which explained it all very well. I think to build the relationship and trust with your clients and customers, you need to portray yourself as an authority in your niche, that’s how they would come to you or know your worth. Being a writer, if I am not able to do that with my clients, why would they give me work?

It’s the same with by readers and followers. If I cannot provide them with valuable and helpful content, there’s no reason they would trust be or visit my blog. I think with time, once your clients or followers get to know you, there’s a deeper feeling than trust that develops, isn’t it? Nothing can work without it, I would say 🙂

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

      Hi Harleena,

Thank you for adding so much value to this conversation. (as always!) No, we cannot go anywhere if the trust factor is not there. As long as we are ourselves, give people the best we can, it will build trust for our readers and followers.

It may take a little more time with clients, but going the extra mile and giving them more than expected, will always be a good foundation of the trust factor.

Hello Donna, Great Article, Great Video! Both of your examples were great, the second one almost make me want to jump right in and get to writing LOL

As Steven has stated above I do also think you should start building trust is by being ‘genuine, Yes just be yourself..

When I first got started online, I didn;t have a clue as to what I was doing and tryed to be someone else and all this created was lost time and money.. Oh well it was a good lesson learned..

    Thanks for sharing..Chery :))

      Hi Chery,

Steven did make a good point. Being genuine is the only way to build trust. When it comes down to it, as long as we are ourselves there will be people who like us, and some that don’t.

When you think of the bazillion people on line, we only need a small portion of followers to create a good following and marketing success.

Can’t please all of the people all of the time, but can please some of the people some of the time.

Once we start building relationships with others, trust is created.

    Hi Donna,

Trust is huge in whatever we are doing. One of the ways I go about building trust is by being ‘genuine’.

I genuinely want to write posts that help my readers, genuinely want to leave quality comments and genuinely want to connect and build relationships with others.

This may be easier for me than with some because it’s in my nature but something I think we all should have to a certain degree.

I loved the example as well. I am no trying to write a novel or anything but they way it was formatted was perfect and would have made me want to knock out chapter 1 right now 🙂

I hope you had a great weekend Donna!

      Hi Steven,

Good to see you here! You are right on the money when you say being genuine is the way to build trust.

It is also my nature and I find it quite easy to do. That “trust” factor is so important for our blogs and marketing.

We can only be ourselves, and those that will be attracted to us will be a pleasure to communicate with.

      Glad you enjoyed this,

I try to use the concept “unique selling proposition” (USP). I try to show what makes me different from my competitors. It is something I also make sure that my staff understands. I try to put myself in the customer’s shoes. My awesome authority is service, service and more service. It must be working because I have a high return of repeat customers. I will try to remember to visit your webinar. What time is going to be and are you resending out notices through Facebook or Google+ ?

      Hi Arleen,

You certainly do have your USP down to a science! I love looking at Garret Specialties and what you have to offer. If anyone ever needed your service I know to send them right to you. I’m not at that point yet…but will be soon and there is so much you offer in your business, I would not have to think twice about it.

As for my webinar…just click the link. It will be Tuesday September 2 at 4pm EST…but it will be recorded because I know there are people coming in from many time zones.

      Thanks Arleen!
