Joint Ventures

This post was most recently updated on July 28th, 2016

JOINT VENTURESI know many bloggers who have done joint ventures with each other at critical stages in their professional development.

One of the more common types of JV partnerships I’ve seen involves bloggers who want to create a digital information product.  Maybe they want to sell a course showing people how to prepare nutritious vegetarian meals, a training tutorial teaching people how to run a YouTube campaign or a video course containing pro methods for breaking your puppy of bad habits.

These and other bloggers may have a good idea, and something of value to share.  They don’t have the technical skills though to actually produce the product, create a site to house it, manage sales pages, affiliate programs and checkout processes.

So they reach out to someone they can strike up a joint venture with… someone who may or may not know about the subject matter itself, but has the skills to market, produce, promote and sell it.

Together, they create, produce and market the digital product.  Sometimes they market it as co-authors, or sometimes it’s marketed under just one person’s name, with the technical partner remaining “silent.”

Meet My JV Partner

I know a bit about joint ventures from first-hand experience.

I was in the process of putting together the creative material for a product I wanted to create for my clients, when I realized I needed help to put it together from a technical and marketing standpoint.

I needed a JV partner to make this project move forward expeditiously.

I didn’t have to look far, though.  I turned to my husband and long time business partner in many ventures.  You may know him, too, from his blog, David Merrill 101 (.com).

You see, David and I are both bloggers, but while I focus primarily on blogging as a primary business, David is more involved in the technical and marketing aspects of blogging.  So, our partnership was a perfect fit.  I could focus on the creative aspects of my first digital product, while David would be the architect of its structural and technical components.  Not only is he technical but a darn great teacher.

This was the joint venture that eventually brought about “Blogging Magic.”

It was an outgrowth of an info video we had produced called “Blogging Fever” that reveals the depth and power of blogging as an online business model.

Our First Joint Venture Project

Blogging Magic is my digital course for bloggers.  I created it for both newbies and pros, laying out the exact process required to build a blogging business.  I show people how to develop authority and branding for themselves and for their blog.  I also map out the course for making your blog successful through different channels, most notably social media.

What made this JV partnership even more perfect was the fact that David and I had worked on many joint ventures before “Blogging Magic.”

Locating My JV Partner

We first met when David was ghost writing a book for one of my professional peers.  I had agreed to do a read-through of the book for her, and had to sit with him to discuss it.  We actually had some rather nasty little disagreements about the style of the book which I thought was too slanted toward marketing, but David insisted was necessary in order for the book to have marketability.  It did quite well, so I guess there was something to his strategy, although we still argue about it… amiably, of course.

I built a professional practice as an intuitive consultant with David (my husband by then) at my side as a joint partner.  He helped me to build the business, manage and grow it.  It continues to thrive to this day, although I’ve since chosen to give priority to my blogging business.

The Blogging Joint Venture

Joint VenturesDavid had actually started blogging a bit before me, and he was the one who first introduced me to it.  He insisted it was a perfect platform for me, considering how I had always loved helping people, and had a social flair for connecting with them.  Considering the fact that my blog has blossomed to such great success, once again shows that he has been a pretty solid JV partner.

Now, David had built a pretty solid reputation himself, among some pretty well known internet marketers and product creators.  But the circle he was running in was different than mine.  So he was far better positioned than me to actually make my product viable in the marketplace.

From Blogging To Coaching

Blogging Magic took off rather nicely and, in turn, led directly into the development of a coaching club that we hadn’t even planned on.

With the release of Blogging Magic, we were rather taken by surprise at the number of people who began asking us to mentor them along their own paths as bloggers and online entrepreneurs.  We couldn’t possibly handle the large demand for this service, so we almost immediately found ourselves in the midst of developing a membership site.  It would be the cornerstone of what we refer to as our dynamic group coaching platform, the Whirlwind Success “VIP Club.”

Again, David was my JV partner in this.

Together, we produce monthly training webinars to teach people the up to the minute things that are working best for online entrepreneurs.  We added weekly Q&A sessions in which we answer the specific questions that VIP Club members present us with.

David has an M.Ed. in Communications from Columbia University, so he has a flair for pulling together and organizing training materials.  He has been both a teacher and a freelance writer, so .  This has been a major asset in making these direct training programs so useful to members.

David really knows how to teach and I have always had a natural talent for helping people break through barriers in their lives.  I really love mentoring them as they carve out their own online success stories.  Again, we’ve been a pretty good team delivering this value to our members.  I know, because it has become so popular in such a short time.

A very popular feature of the VIP Club is that we make ourselves available for live, one-on-one assistance.  We do this together.  It’s a really unique kind of mentoring because David and I both have such different perspectives on our VIP members’ challenges.  While I assist them on the creative and social aspects of their business, David is always present with his marketing and technical expertise that helps them conform broad strategies into step by step action plans.

Is there a Joint Venture for you?

If your business is at the point where a JV partner is needed to move it forward, I suggest you look carefully at who has the exact skills and expertise that will complement yours.

You probably don’t want to work with a partner who does the same thing as you, and has your same skills.  This will leave a gap between what the two of you want to accomplish, and what you are capable of delivering.  That’s why I think it’s best to work with someone who has different, but complementary skills and expertise.  What you don’t know how to do, your partner can work out.  What your partner doesn’t understand, can be your role in the joint venture.

If you’re lucky, maybe you have the perfect JV partner living under the same roof as you, but it’s probably not likely.  I suppose David and I just lucked out.

Whirlwind Success "VIP CLUB"

What do you think?  Are you ready for a JV partnership?  Do you know what sort of partner or joint venture can best be an asset to your business?

I’d love to hear your stories and comments below.  And don’t forget to share this post on your social sites 🙂

    Hi Donna,

Really enjoyed reading your post on Joint Ventures and like everyone else here has mentioned you were really lucky you have David as your partner both as a husband and a business partner.

Joint Ventures is something I am not involved with at the minute while I grow my education and my blog but it is something I would be interested in futher down the line.

Thanks again for another fantastic blog post

I’ve got to agree with others here about how lucky you are to have your JV partner as your husband! How wonderful!

I haven’t yet tried seeking out a JV partner, but there are definitely some products I have in mind where such a partnership would be helpful. I think it all really comes down to knowing who to reach out to and who is willing to form a truly collaborative venture. And once finding that person, your idea of writing a contract really makes sense, especially if it’s a close friend. Detailing things out really makes sense, so all parties are clear.

      Hi Karen,

I must say I’m very grateful my JV Partner is my husband plus we work well together.

When it comes to doing a partnership with products it is sort of like a JV Venture Karen. So true, one really has to know who to reach out to. Once done, it is a good idea to write things down like a contract, so it avoids future problems that may come up.

I’ve always used “collaboration” instead of joint venture, mostly out of habit. These days if I get a big NDA client (non disclosure agreement), I will bring another person in to develop alongside me because I want to be on the ball. These clients tend to pay a lot more money that some of my projects I can actually mention in my portfolio.

It makes sure that if there are any development issues, that I have another competent developer to brainstorm a working solution that takes little to no time testing so the scope cost stays low.

      Hi Nile,

I like the word “collaboration”! You sure have your hands full with your business and I can see why you need to pull in others at times because there are so many things you need to put together in one project.

You are doing a great job especially having another competent devloper to “brainstorm” that working solution. Because I can only imagine that testing process you have to go through.

You are a true businesswoman and when you get a job to do, you do it well! Your reputation precedes you!

    Hi Donna,

Really enjoyed reading this post about Joint Ventures. I have never thought about going into a joint venture so far but you make it sound like it is something that we all should do at sometime if we find the right partner. I’m afraid my husband doesnt know the first thing about internet marketing of any sort so I lucked out there I think. Will definately have to look into it more seriously though as I think it is something I would like to try.

    Thanks again

      Hi Gillian,

When doing a Joint Venture with another person, you really have to know them well enough to trust them.

Sometimes the little gremlin called greed gets in the way and it can turn into a disaster. I have Joint Ventured with some others in the past both online and off line besides my husband.

Some worked out well, so much so, it has been years and we are still going at it. Others, well, just blew up in m face!

So be careful, but it can be done!

    Hello Donna:

I have had several JV projects in the past in “the real world.” 🙂 Unfortunately, it appears that I found really great skilled people that seemed to let greed get in the way of the venture. :/ So, now (sigh) I work alone. That may not be for forever, but certainly for the foreseeable future.

I think nothing is coincidence in this life. You and David were destined to be together and work together on many levels — what a blessing! Do you know what I like best about what you’ve created? It’s a win-win-win for all. No one takes advantage, it is fair, reasonably priced for all budgets, and truly makes a difference in people’s lives. Was that what you envisioned in the beginning?

Keep making products, it suits the two of you!

      Hi Deborah,

Thank you so much Deborah for your feedback of me and David. Answer to your question of is this what I had envisioned in the beginning? Sort of!

David came to the internet first. He wanted to learn how to make money without having a job. He studied like a crazy man, but in his heart, he wanted to help others to life the lifestyle we were living as entrepreneurs. It wasn’t about money but more of an opportunity to help others.

For me, I was running my business off line at the time and noticed so many people feeling “trapped” in their jobs and/or relationships. They weren’t happy and quite miserable. I was always an entrepreneur, and lived a happy lifestyle.

When I noticed what David was doing….I just had to jump in! I had so many great ideas for my clients to break out of the mold and help them with their unique gifts to get online and start a business of their own.

Actually some did and are doing quite well. Even now, my other clients say “I see you all over the internet Donna. Can I do this too?” Absolutely! As of this writing some are building their brands, others are offering their services and some are bringing their MLM companies on to the internet.

David and I love what we do. And yes, the main objective is a win-win for all!

      Thanks so much Deborah,

    Hi Angela,

I know I’m pretty lucky to have a husband to Joint Venture with! Looks like your hubby is doing quite well on Ebay! You mentioned that he ‘s good in math and that’s where you are lacking.

You can always ask him to do the part of the math involved in marketing. I wonder if he would agree? You are such a wonderful woman I’m sure he can give you a hand in that department lol.

Yes, two heads are better than one when we are servicing people. It is pretty difficult to go at things alone…time wise that is.

The difficulty with Clickbank, JVZoo, etc. for me is that I did develop my own product, but then didn’t want to shout it out on any old site. It is more of a word of mouth to my friends. It’s working great, but at least I know they are all ethical and not spamming my product.

That’s what worries me the most! We worked too long and hard to create this. It is beneficial to new bloggers, and when it comes to affiliates, I’ve been target marketing some creme of the crop marketers that are using it as an affiliate. Mostly upstanding people who are in network marketing and need to show their down lines how to blog effectively. It’s a win win so far so good!

    Hi Donna,

When you said JV partners, I really thought you were talking about this affiliate market of Joint Ventures…like Clickback, there is a REAL Joint Ventures out there that sells your products, courses, or services via PPC, CPC, etc.

I didn’t do too well with JV, Clickbank, Amazon Associates…and other bizillion affiliates out there. For awhile there I thought you were going to incorporate your product with the JV company.

So you are talking about JV, a real person partner. So far I don’t have any JV like you. You are so lucky to have a husband who is your mentor, technical person, teacher, coach…guess you just lucked out. 🙂

They said, “Two heads are better than one.”

It would be nice if my husband can join venture with me, but his passion is somewhere else. Not computer. Although he is a Power Seller on eBay that have more than 4,000 positive feedback, still he would prefer not to be on computer all the time. That’s why he’s a R.N., he does a lot of walking. His social skill is pretty good. His basic math is pretty good which I’m lacking. He’s a pretty good seller in real life. His online venture so far is only eBay.

Anyway, sorry for being late reading this. Hope you have a great Sunday!

That is great you have a great JV partner, as you can either do really well with them, or it can lead to a disaster. I have had a few successful ones, however more times than not I have had ones that I would rather forget. It is best to know those who you may think of partnering up with before working on something right away.

      Hi Miriam,

I too had some JV partnerships that went down the drain. Maybe I’m a control freak, but when it comes to partnerships, I like to have things written down on paper and hold up my own.

I’m a pretty lucky gal to be married to my partner. We have always made a good team no matter what we ventured into.

Yes, we do disagree at times, but never take it personally. We put it on the table and review the pros and cons. Then we come to a logical decision.

Working with a husband can be a disaster unless one can remove the “emotional” part and keep it logical.

You and David complement each other so well and I learn so much from both of you.

My own partner, David, is my JV partner in that he encourages and motivates me and takes up the slack around the house when I’m really busy, which seems nearly all the time lately. He’s chief cook and my son’s “taxi” driver. We are both tech nerds and when he was running his computer business, I’d do the accounts and go out and help with some of the software related issues. I got some web building jobs through this too.

Now he is unable to run his business because of arthritis I’ve been trying to get him interested in some form of online marketing but have had no luck so far.

I am working with a close online contact on a website project although it’s been slow because we both get caught up with other things.

I do like the idea of producing a salable product with a JV partner.

Wow…That is fantastic! What would we do without our “Davids?” lol.

I am grateful that you have shared your story about your JV partner. For him to be the chief cook and your son’s taxi driver, sure takes a load off your daily chores. David and I work that way too; I cook, he cleans. He drives around, doing errands while I can sit home and create.

Sorry to hear that Your David has arthritis…but because he is a tech nerd, I’m sure you can win him over to get into some kind of online marketing. It is too bad he won’t share his knowledge with the world (tell him that one lol)

I can pick up that project you are doing just from reading some drip feed information on your blog and I’m sure that when you are ready to roll, it will be fantastic!

Love your webinars and how you both present the material bringing in each of your strengths.

I completely agree that having a JV partner is very beneficial. There are so many facets to running a successful business- creating the product, marketing it, handling the finances etc. One person can’t be perfect at everything so it makes sense to bring in someone that offers strengths other than yours to grow the business.

Not sure I’m ready to add in a JV partner but I do see myself doing so down the line..

Well that’s where you come in doesn’t it? lol…. Yes I would suggest to write everything down…all the pros and cons.

I did this with David before I decided to collaborate with him. As you know we both have different expertise in business. So we made a list of our strong points as well as our weak ones.

From that, we had decided who was going to do what. Even though he is my husband and we live together, we constantly have to go through the process every day to take one step at a time in our strategies to a higher business goal. Usually over morning coffee lol. But we have our coffee with our white board.

There is a long term schedule and many other things we need to do so that everything “fits” in an appropriate timeline that we agreed on.

I wold suggest for you to tell her to write down what she is good at and how it is going to fit into the business at hand. Set some kind of times, dates, etc. It can be difficult because when you do a project…give yourself more time than you think. You may have everything coordinated and then BAM…your auto-resonder goes crazy, or the payment structure goes haywire.

Just remember that building a business, always keep some time out for things to break or time set aside because you may want to change a platform, etc.

    Hi Donna,

Well I read this post right after I made an appointment with you so I feel that was the right thing to do. I love the idea of a JV and was just talking to someone today about how we should get together and work something out for business. She is an awesome top of her line network marketer. Top in her company. I have some technical skills for marketing online but feel I need to tweek them. That’s why I wanted to talk to you. Also, you described in your post with your new coaching, maybe a way to make this all work for me. I will talk to you on Saturday, but I’m loving this idea and inadverntenly got my JV today (although she doesn’t know it yet!).

It’s so awesome I’m wondering why no one talked about this JV before.
Can’t wait to talk to you and am going to watch the video above as well so I may have questions.
God bless you for being there for me.
    Will talk Saturday.

      Hi Barbara,

I’m looking forward to our appointment! Joint Ventures are talked about a lot in marketing circles. Funny how you read this post after you talked to someone about getting together and working out a business plan. That my friend is a JV.

The only advice I can give you here, on this post is to make sure that there is trust, and write down everything you can think of to create a plan. Have her do the same. Then together, come to a decision and go for it if it is something you want to do.

Again…write it all down and sign it!

Blessings to you and we will talk about this on the phone!

Hello Donna, I do envy you my friend, My fiance’ has NO Interest what so ever with network marketing, he actually does not even know how to turn on a computer nor does he want to learn.

It would be so nice to wake up and have someone to mastermind how the day will go. To have to work alone. well you know is just Lonely!

I have always held one, two sometimes three jobs at a time and they all had to do with being with people, so this is a whole new ball game to me..

Yes I would like to find me a JV partner, preferably one close, but chances if this are slim to none since I live in the middle of no where HEHE

Awesome post my friend, Thanks for sharing.. Chery :))

I believe you have a unique thing going there. To be able to work with your spouse and partner in business after all these years is truly amazing. I think I’ve told you before but I don’t know if I could work with my hubs. Maybe if he was in the blogging business :).

I wasn’t sure what a JV partnership was so I appreciate you educating me on that. Like Adrienne, I’m not at a point where I need one now but one never knows in the future, right?

    I hope you’re having a great week!

      Hi Corina,

David and I always worked together since we met. I guess it is part of our relationship. He got into the internet first, I followed.

He is great with sales funnels, marketing, and all that, where I am more social. We decided to put our heads together and start our first product a year ago. Now, we are producing like crazy people lol.

A Joint Venture with a husband/wife team is great sometimes when they can work together. Others find trusted friends to do so.

      Happy you came by!

    Hi Donna

It must be a wonderful experience for you to work with your hubby on a project jointly because while working you don’t have to think for your family and all is going on together.

But expertise and prowess of both of you counts more than the nature of your relationship. Business is business and family is family. We can’t mingle both of them because both have their own rules.

The big thing is your product and its name shows it must be going to send ripples in blogosphere. With an introductory video you highlighted all its features and that’s itself a candid sign of professionalism.

Your vast experience in blogging and also your unique voice in your industry is a big guarantee that you are not going to offer an ordinary product and it must have amazing features to become the market leader.

My best wishes for your huge success and please do let me know if I can do something to market it anywhere.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience of going through the process of making and promoting this product.

    Great article Donna!

Personally, I really think the they way you & David compliment each other has less to due with the two being husband & wife and more to do with two incredibly dynamic individuals,
whose skills and temperament compliment each other.

As you mentioned, you’re both wise and experience enough to recognize each others strengths and tap into them.

And while lots entrepreneurs/ business owners are smart and dynamic, not all of them are smart enough to admit or recognize when the need to defer to someone else’s expertise!

So bravo to both of you for recognizing and supporting each others strengths!

Yes, we do compliment each other in business and I am grateful for that. We both recognize each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

Now this is a great mix! You found love and a great business partner. What more can you ask for! I agree with Ryan that you must work with someone you really trust and what better person could that be than your own spouse! But what’s even greater is that all though you two comes from different backgrounds, you two compliment each other so well.

I never really thought about looking for a JV partner, although I know this would be great for me since I’m pretty busy and everything is running at a snails pace to me. But hopefully I will luck out and find someone that I can trust as well as compliment each other.

    Hi Donna,

Many couples find it very hard to both work and live together! It takes a special kind of communication to do both well! Blessings to you and David for finding and maintaining that balance.

Another way people use JV’s is for list building and affiliate income for list sharing. For example, I may create a product or have a service that I know would benefit not only my audience but that of a colleague or business friend. We both have email subscriber lists with completely different people on them.

So I could offer this person a JV opportunity whereas they will promote my product/service to their list in exchange for a percentage of the income from sales. This is best done in a structured launch type format and often utilizes a launch webinar where the person with the new list introduces the person with the new product live in front of the end user audience.

This is a wonderful way to grow your list, expand your audience, help one another offer unique products and services to our loyal subscribers.

Thanks for this great article Donna!

I am toying with the idea of having someone be a ghost responder to my blog and get out there and built more relationships. I think blogging is important and I would continue to write the blog, but having someone answer the blog and build more relationships would really help as blogging is time consuming but an important part of building up your website presence. I guess that is what you would call a partnership

    Hi Donna,

Really great post about Joint Ventures. I remember hen I first started out, before I launched my website last year January, I wanted to sell Information Products from there … that’s why I decided to make it a static site.

I created 4 – 5 products and I knew that they would sell well, all I needed was to JV with someone who had connections and was well known. I contacted this IM guy who actually was well known and had alot of connections and when I approached him with a JV proposition, he basically said no. I had to do it on myself first because I wasn’t known. I had no track record and he wasn’t going to risk his reputation with his readers on someone that wasn’t proven or known.

So I scrapped the whole JV thing and started focusing on building relationships, etc.

JVs are really great and if done correctly, can work out well for all parties involved. I’m not ready for a JV partnership right now, I don’t think but what you said is 100% correct … “If your business is at the point where a JV partner is needed to move it forward, I suggest you look carefully at who has the exact skills and expertise that will complement yours. ”

Right as rain as always. Thanks for this insightful post and it’s definitely something to think about.

Hope you have a great week.

      Hi Andrew,

Thanks for sharing insight on this topic of Joint Ventures. I’ve seen this in the industry time and time again. Someone comes up with great products, and wants to Joint Venture with another to run with it.

Most of the time they will shut the door in your face, BUT…there are some great marketers out there that will JV with you or pay you plenty if they deem it necessary for their followers. That’s a choice we have to make.

Building relationships always leads to good things. You never know if a good partner will come along, but you have to choose wisely. I think it is more difficult than choosing a spouse lol. Because it is a “marriage” of sorts. We do have to really know that person and make sure that we compliment each other.

    Hi Donna,

You are very fortunate to have David!!!! Marriage partnerships in business can be a real blessing in many instances.

I’ve had two JV partners and unfortunately they didn’t go very well. It was partially my own fault. I unfortunately didn’t due my due process and learn as much about them as I should have and the experiences were both very negative.

Today, I have a JV partnership that has blossomed into an incredible friendship and my JV partner is a little older, much more experienced in business, and we see each other as assets instead of hindrances.

I learned a lot of lessons through the failed partnerships that ended up being a real blessing.

I really appreciated your post and it’s exciting to learn of how you and your husband work so well together. What a blessing for both of you!

    Hi Donna,

You both make such a lovely couple, and isn’t it wonderful to have a life partner as your business partner too 🙂

Ask me!! You already know my dear JV Partner is my husband too, just like yours, and though we both are very different in what we are good at, we also are similar in a lot of things because we have to tread the same path to make the blog grow presently. Yes, we do have our differences where the blog is concerned, but eventually we settle for what would work best.

Vinay is good at the technical and administrative aspect of the blog, though also writes well, so a complete package. While I’m more into blogging and the socializing kinds, just like you I would add. The marketing aspect is something new to both of us, so we are learning about that with time.

Oh no…we have no product as yet nor any course like yours to offer presently, though it’s there in the pipeline, but we keep working at the blog to make it better and help people through that, and that’s why we added the new blog community and forum to it. Not to mention that it’s turning out pretty well – a perfect place where people come, share, and help each other. But it’s not easy managing it all, and one of us has to be constantly keeping an eye on the activities to keep it all in place. Lot’s more planned for the blog, and I hope we can take it to a new level soon as well.

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

      Hi Harleena,

You and Vinay are going strong on AHA Now! I can see the difference in your blog as it grows so large.

When I visit you I always think of me and David and how similar we both are as couples doing business. That yin/yang sign pops up in my mind when I see you and your lovely JV partner working your blog.

I love the way Vinay writes too. When I read his articles, he reminds me so much of David. And you and I are the “social butterflies” lol.

It does work so well when a husband/wife team can do business together. I’ve known many that butt heads and left the internet because of conflict.

I think it is all about balance and respect for each other. Knowing our strengths and weaknesses. David and I share a large home office. I’m constantly calling out to him for something or other and he the same.

But when we wake up each morning we always talk business over our morning coffee. We both share the passion of blogging and business. I can say I am truly blessed to have a husband who has faith in me and is behind me all the way.

I love your story Donna but I will echo others here, yes you DID luck out with David! I’ve read about JVs and have been tempted a time or two – in fact I briefly considered exploring this option with something I’ll be introducing in the next few weeks – but I’ve heard so many scary stories I decided I’d rather go with an affiliate program. My own experience with partnerships is limited to volunteer projects but the end result in each case was enough to leave me feeling very leary about risking any type of business collaboration. Thanks for the great read and inspiration!

      Hi Marquita,

I don’t blame you a bit. I think you made the correct decision. Unless you know someone really well and trust them as a good business venture, then it could be OK.

Anyone out of the blue I wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole lol. Joint Ventures can work only if we have a relationship with that person.

    Hi Donna,

You’re so lucky my friend. You have a cute, kind, smart and talented husband that is even your business partner and fills in the blanks for you. When the two of you are going to be so darn popular, I’m going to say, hey, I was one of the first they did a video interview with LOL and I have the video to prove it too! 🙂

Now more seriously, reading your post made me think that I may need to hire David to direct me in my business. I certainly would need someone like him. I’m serious, that’s something I will consider before I move to Italy. Oh, yes, by the way, I don’t know if you know, because you weren’t at our last hangout, but I’m planning to move to Italy for a year in May. Lots to do before then, but that’s the plan.

I need to go somewhere. Right now, the sadness is still heavy, and I feel stuck. I need some adventure!

Before I do, though, I would love for my business to do better, so that’s why I’m serious when I say that I may need your husband’s insight. Maybe we could talk over the phone one of these days.

Another fantastic post and I’m so glad for your guys that your partnership work so well.

      Hi Sylviane,

Thanks so much for your kind words about David. Yes..you were my first guest on my blog and we both have that video to prove it lol.

I did hear that you were moving to Italy…via a chat on Facebook. I wish I could have made that call with you guys! But as usual, business first for me. I almost made it but the person I was talking to became a client and we chatted for a long time.

Anyway….I’m sure David would speak to you and give you some direction. I would love to see you prosper before the move.

Thanks for thinking of me, Sylviane. It’s nice to hear from you, it’s been a while.

Yes, we can chat anytime you’d like. Not sure what you’ve got in mind for your online business, but whatever it is, I’m sure it can be done.

Contact me or Donna and we’ll set something up. Of course, it doesn’t really matter if it’s before or after your move to Italy because… this is the internet 🙂

Good luck with your move, by the way. We actually considered a move to Italy a few years back, but the town we were looking into was demolished suddenly by an earthquake… so we stayed in USA… Sometimes messages come loud and clear.

        Thanks for that Donna,

Wow, that would be wonderful if David coulld give me some pointers.

Yes, that’s the plan, I really would like my business to be doing better before I leave, I know in the meantime I intend to teach English there, because I would like the EXPERIENCE besides the money, but I want to be able to work my online biz from Europe more than anything else.

It’s very strange, but after 22 years (in January), it’s time for me to do the trip in reverse, at least for a while. Just something I feel strongly impulsed to do.

    Hi Donna,

You and David are the perfect joint partners. I love that you found each other and complement each other so darn well. Perfect fit because your skills vary, so as a team you work well. Kelli and I are blessed to be joint partners living under the same roof. We work to promote each other and have helped each other launch business ventures. Actually, we’ve been a freelance writing dynamic duo for years but now that she’s become a happiness consultant we’re working together even more. Blessed to have her, and to have us vibe.

I can’t stress that you need to trust business partners for the business to work. Phil Dews and I work together to release my eBooks and he also works on my blog. I trust him, and I trust Kelli, because I’ve known both folks for many years, and when you have that trust, the business partnerships become easier to work.

If someone reaches you out of the blue, look out. They’re strangers and they probably want to use you to make money and yep, this will go down a dangerous road when things get dicey. Every partnership has a testing phase and you’ll need to persist, to find the right match, through this phase. Pick a friend, someone you trust more than anybody, and you’ll prosper. Thanks Donna, tweeting soon and signing off from Fiji.

      Hi Ryan,

Yes you are truly blessed for having Kelli by your side. Together you two work so well and Kelli has helped you through so much. David has with me too.

Trust is the issue when we talk about Joint Ventures. Now you know Phil Dews for a long time and can trust him. This is why it worked out so well.

I’ve done offline Joint Ventures, one is still going on and working fine. The other, well, I was screwed by a major book publisher years ago, but Karma took care of that one. lol.

We do have to be careful and not just jump at the chance to partner with someone we don’t know, like and trust. But even then, I would suggest that when doing this, put things down in writing, even if it is a friend. It will avoid any arguments down the road.

It’s getting cold here and I wish I was in Fiji right now lol.

    Hi Donna,

Interesting article. I’ve considered a JV partnership in the past, but ultimately decided against it. I suppose one of the reasons I was reluctant to enter into one was the fact that I was a bit skeptical.

I’ve worked with a lot of marketers (more like con-men) in the past who claim to be working with you, but simply focus on what they can get out of you. They trick you into thinking you’re partners, and then pressure you into buying certain things to ‘help the both of you out’.

I’m quicker to spy these sort of people now a days, but it just seems that the effort to finding a good person to form a JV with outweighs the potential benefits.

Perhaps the right person will come along and change that! Who knows?

      Hi James,

I know what you mean! There are many out there that are in it for themselves and not for a good Joint Venture. I too can spot them out a mile away.

I see many husband/wife teams and they do work well. I also have Joint Ventured offline with a friend of mine and when I had a contract set up, she was kind of shocked. I told her that when we put things down in writing, it will be so much better to be accountable. I didn’t want our friendship to end, nor the business. That was 15 years ago and we are still going strong lol.

I also had a bad experience with a major bookseller who interviewed me for a book to be published with them. Long story short, they took my information and ran with the book with not a mention about me.

Turns out it was ok by me because Karma takes care of everything!

      Thanks for visiting my blog,

    Hi Donna,

Yeah, you lucked out with David and that not only have you been married all these years but you enjoy each other’s company enough to work together so closely too. That’s priceless and I’m thrilled for you both.

As you know, I’ll be releasing my product soon so no JV partnerships are in my immediate future but you never know what next year will bring. Just want to get this out there and see where it may lead. I’m hoping that like you, there will be other needs from my customers which may or may not lead me into the next direction I need to head. Right now I can only see the end result of my blogging course.

I love how this played out for you both though. I’m sure you have your hands full but are enjoying every moment of it. I’m sure your students are loving it too.

Thanks for writing about this and I may have an update for you in the near future. 😉

    Have a great week now.

      Hi Adrienne,

I sure appreciate not only my relationship with David, but also how well we can work together.

It starts out with our morning coffee as we mastermind … then our daily tasks. But it is so enjoyable working in our home office with our dogs by our side.

David and I talk about you all the time …does your ears ring? lol We are grateful that we could work together to get our products done and work closely with our clients. We always say “Adrienne has to do this alone :(” Now you know that any time at all we are always there for you.

I cannot wait for your product to be released…I admire your persistence and leadership.
