Ready For Success?

This post was most recently updated on July 29th, 2016

Are You Ready For Success? Are you ready for success?

Sometimes success comes slowly to you.  Other times it is like the flood gates opening and it just pours out right into your lap.

I know what you are thinking.

Yea… bring it on I’m ready for success!

Some people reading this have already achieved success.  Many of them may know how to handle it, but others may not.

You see, if you’re striving for success, then you need to prepare for it in advance.

There are two things, in particular, that I’d like to have you start thinking about now, even if you feel that success is well off in the distance.

These two things are Time and Money.

Are you prepared to deal with these commodities wisely and effectively?

“Oh yea… I can handle it!”  you might be saying to yourself.

But don’t answer so quickly.

I’d like you to carefully consider if you are really ready for success when it comes to handling both time and money.

TIME

Before jumping at success, think about the time commitment you’ll be strapped to when all of the sudden success is on your doorstep.

Think hard.

Okay, you folks that gave me a quick answer, are you beginning to think about this a bit more carefully?

Let me help you out with a few questions.

Can you realistically handle, let’s say 100 people joining your business or your primary opportunity overnight?

You may have placed an ad, got a great response, a killer conversion rate and you now have 100 people depending on you to be their team leader, or mentor.

You may have run a promotion for your affiliate product, or your own product for that matter.  Maybe you ran an ad for clicks to a listbuilding campaign.

Whatever your particular campaign was for, it was a big hit and 100 people have just been added to your list or purchased your product.

Do you have it all ready?  Did you write your emails?  Did you develop your sales funnel?

In any of these scenarios, you’ll have to think fast about some things.

  • How are you going to answer all their questions?
  • Did you develop your sales funnel?
  • Did you prepare a platform where all 100 people can gather to learn the necessary beginner things?
  • If you are still working a job, do you have the time to spend blocks of hours on this?
  • Even if you don’t have a job, can you smoothly transition your schedule to make the sudden shift required to focus on the needs of your new list or your new customers, clients and down-lines?
  • Did you think ahead and set up a time line for all these people who are suddenly looking to you to lead the way?
  • Did you carve out some time for yourself in the midst of all this new activity and obligation?
  • Do you have a list of people ready in the wings, ready to handle the tasks you may not have time or ability to handle?  Maybe you need some technical assistance, or spreadsheet tracking, copy writing or whatever.  Did you think of that?
  • Do you have a system in place for handling customer service issues like, somebody didn’t get a password to access your members area or download site?  Maybe your instructional video isn’t working right, or your redirect links are broken.  Can you handle these issues, or do you have someone on board who can?
  • Are you ready to take responsibility to fulfill the needs and expectations of each and every customer, client and business partner?
  • Do you have the content and systems in place to deliver on everything you promised?

And, oh yeah.

This new promotion or campaign represents only one part of your business.  Can you keep up with your other necessary tasks, like maintaining your blog, your social mediastrategies, place and monitor your ads?

Your new customers and clients will be waiting for more direction from you.  Are you ready to lead them from the front of the room?

Do you have it all ready?  Did you write your emails?  Did you develop your sales funnel?

MONEY

When it comes to success, we have to remember that it involves a new influx of cash.

Do you know what to do with your profits?  Even more basically, do you know how to handle money properly?

If you were not born with a “silver spoon in your mouth,” as most people were not, you probably don’t have a lot of experience with excess cash.

With success, you are going to need to learn how to use money to enhance your business.

I highly recommend that you read the book “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert  Kiyosaki.

It will show you the different way in which people look at, and handle money and capital.

Ready For SuccessKiyosaki explains how he grew up in a household where his “poor dad” had a salary based job and the standard “hard work” and “invest conservatively” values he was passing on.

They were things most of us grew up with, like save your money, work hard, if you need more money you have to work more hours or add another job… you know that kind of “grunt” mentality.

His friend’s “rich dad,” on the other hand taught young Robert about a deeper financial wisdom and intelligence.  He stressed putting a stop to working for the “man,” and replacing it with working for yourself.  He taught Robert how to make money, but far more importantly, he showed him how to develop the mindset of the rich.

So when your success gives you the challenge of handling money and profit, you’ll need to consider some of these things.

  • Re-investing that cash flow and how and where to do so?
  • Do you still have that job mentality?
  • Do you think the best idea is to put your new “seed capital” in the savings account, or buy some consumer items you’ve been wanting?
  • Maybe you need to pay off your household bills.  Should you be using your newly earned business cash for that purpose?
  • Do you know what Kyosaki means when he says that a “trained mind is a good mind?”   It is all about training your mind to achieve wealth.
  • If some windfall profit suddenly falls into your lap, are you ready to start paying it out to people and systems that will help you scale your business to higher levels?

These are but a few questions raised here.

The big one is this:  if you are working hard at your online business, and all of the sudden you achieve and even exceed your goals, and success rushes in… are you ready for it?

Don’t just say “bring it on.”

Prepare yourself for it.

In fact, preparing for it will actually open the doors through which it will enter.

You need to be ready to understand what money is and how it really works.

Clearly, I’m suggesting that you read “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” very carefully.  I think it’s about the best resource I’ve come across to ensure that you are ready to handle your profits wisely.

If you never gave it a thought, and have dreams of a big fancy car and luxury vacations… give it a second thought.  Money is only a means to achieving your bigger dreams.

You really need to understand money and financial flow from the perspective of a “rich” person, and not a “working Joe.”  If you don’t, you’re preparing to be the “working Joe” instead of a rich and successful entrepreneur.

Believe me, you will achieve whatever you prepare yourself to achieve… for better or for worse.

SUCCESS

So… are you ready for success?

Your Blog Is A Sales Funnel

Even if you are not making one stinking dime today, you must be ready for the success you know you will attain tomorrow.

If you are not prepared by having all your ducks in a row when it comes to your time, I assure you that you will be overwhelmed.

This is a critical part of marketing that I don’t see others talking about much.

I was inspired to write this to you my dear readers because planning ahead and being mentally prepared for your success is the most important part of achieving it… like I know you will!

Good point – prepare for success or not? I’m a big believer in “build your plane while you’re flying”… So of course you’re not ready for the floodgates to open from day but every day you’ll get a little bit readier..

    Hi Cole,

Without changing our mindset from working with our hands, to that “B” quadrant is such a leap of us.

Yes, it is all about Leverage. So true if Robert seen that email ad, he would do something like that!

    Fantastic!

    Hi Donna,

For those of us that were raised to work hard with our hands, our first instinct is usually wrong. I get an email offering a new piece of software and I think, “Great, I could take on another type of client if I had that.” And if I don’t catch myself, that’s exactly what I’ll do. I’ll buy a new “tool” so I can work even more hours. It can be a difficult habit to break.

I’ve read most of Robert’s books, and he would be thinking in the ‘B” (business) quadrant. Leverage!! If he saw that email ad, he might call one of his outsourced contracts to see if he/she owned that software. He’d be able to sell a higher caliber of work without investing any time or money.

    Best,

    Cole

    Hi Donna,

Wonderful topic covered! Success is the “prowdy crown” which everybody needs in their lives.
I haven’t achieved my success yet. So, this post is very helpful for me. I have learned so many things here. This post seems inspiring to me towards my success.

Thanks for suggesting this book “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki. I will look forward to read it soon and enhance my skill accordingly.

I know I will achieve my success very soon. Thanks for this inspiring post.

    Have a fantastic day! Enjoy!

      Hi Nisha,

It is always great to prepare yourself for success. When it does happen, you don’t want to be caught unprepared.

Having your mindset clear on how to use money via Rich Dad, Poor Dad, will enlighten you to how money really works. Goes to show how there is a big difference between the working class mentality and the rich. So why not think rich? lol.

Also I do believe in the Law of Attraction, so if we start changing our mindset, we start doing things differently with our business. Who knows…..things can come to you that way.

      Blessings,

    Hi Tim,

Seems like you have your lifestyle in order. Being a stay at home dad surely takes a lot of time. I think it is the best job in the world!

It is so important to know how much time we can spend on line. If it is not too much, as long as you know it and have a plan, you will get there in your own stride.

    Thanks so much for sharing,

    Hey Donna

If I’m being honest, I haven’t been pushing for success hugely.

I feel like that’s what everyone expects and it’s something I want for the future but I need to reign things in to be realistic at this stage.

My life beyond blogging is pretty full on because my wife’s working life is very full on. So, I have to put family first as I made that commitment when I left employment three years ago to become a stay at home dad.

I have some ideas for how I want to move things forward from a monetary point of view though and they are manageable. There’s no point in getting ahead of myself.

    Hey Donna,

What a post to reckon with!

I like that you have used these two parameters to drive home your point about going about being successful, because the two actual are related to this cause.

I was reading and nodding my head to all the questions you raised on this article and I especially picked up interest in this one “Do you have the content and systems in place to deliver on everything you promised?”

I really do think this question is peculiar to most of us as bloggers. You see most of us at the early times of building our brands we make a whole lot of promises without knowing if we are ready or prepared to deliver those. I think this is a food for thought for me, it’s also a check to know if one is really ready for success!

Wow! Reading your post just reminded me of Robert Kiyosaki, a man whose teachings about making wealth is great. I actually read that book 10 years ago and still admires the teachings in it.

What a great post you have shared with us Donna. I am sharing this one right away on FB and G+.

Do have a wonderful day ahead.

      Hi Jackson,

I’m thrilled that you liked this post! Your take-away of the question “Do you have the content and systems in place to deliver on everything you promised?” is an important one.

I think many people do not ask themselves this question. If you are rolling out with a new product/service, you need to live up to your promise. So BEFORE you make any, you need to sit down with yourself, check out honestly how you are going to deal with time spent on new customers/clients and have a realistic answer.

You just cannot leave things up in the air and deal with it when it comes about. Otherwise you will find yourself spiraling down quickly. I know one particular marketer that has done this. This guy was so great and I followed him. He partnered with a huge guru in the field, and had not thought of his time factor.

He let people down. Overnight, people lost trust in him and I haven’t seen him around since. What a wast of a good talented teacher!

      Hi Gillian,

As we get ready for more cash flow to come in, we need to know how to use it. Time is also another thing to prepare ourselves for. We are in the here and now and sometimes have difficulty with our time. So what if….

Being prepared and thinking about this will prepare you when things turn around. And they will! As long as we work smartly, we will have enough time to do the things we want to do that are important to our life.

      Yes…read that book…it is a mind changer!

I’ve always asked people to think about a lot of these things listed in your article. You really have to be open-minded and willing to tackle or delegate what others cringe to do.

I’ve read Kiyosaki’s book and many others when I was in high school. It’s been a book that really opened my eyes.

Good to know you ask people about these things listed in this article. It is important to know them if you are going to work with someone. Yes, we do have to be open-minded and need to know the importance of delegating some work.

That book had opened my eyes too. Coming from a working family, it really changed my mindset more than any other book I’ve read.

Ah Donna, I think the universe is telling me something. I’ve just come from Rachel’s blog and say a mention of Rich Dad, Poor Dad and I said I’d get it. And then I drop by to see what wisdom you’re sharing and you also mention the book. I have to get it now and read it.

For a long time I wasn’t receptive to success. It wasn’t convenient for me, the timing wasn’t right, you really don’t want to hear the excuses that I come out with when it looks like I’m becoming successful! Maybe the book will help, after all two people I know and respect say it’s a good read.

I know my life has changed after I read this book. It is easy reading and does help change our mindset. After all, most of us come from “working families” and not born with that silver spoon in our mouth. This book will surely help you to change your mindset toward time, money and success.

Wow..Sarah! One thing I can tell you is that you are half way there because you are acknowledging your “excuses” Once we do that, we are ready for that next step!

Donna, this reminds me of a blogger who had overnight success with a post called “Marriage isn’t for you….” he received thousands of comments, interviews all over different TV channels and much more….All via one successful blog post. I wondered if his server could handle all the views, etc in a short period of time. I don’t think many of are truly ready for success and maybe that’s why many are not So successful! We don’t really plan for it – we kind of muddle along each day and do what we can and get sidetracked with our time. Many do not know how to delegate and that can surely impede success too.

Everyone defines success differently too and what is successful for one person may not be for another. I believe success is living the life you want, doing what you want 80/20 % of the time and being able to live with yourself without many regrets.

Great questions you’ve asked here Donna, have a great new week ahead!

Yes, we all have our own unique opinions of what success means to us. But getting ready for it and planning is always a great practice to do. Not only logically, but when it comes to that Law Of Attraction….maybe that has something to do with it? ((lol))

Time + Money. Certainly can do with more of both.

I relate both to success. If I have more time to work on the things I love and more money comes in because of those work = that’s success for me.

It’s also cool that you brought up Robert’s book (I think it’s the only good one as I read everything else)
I have to re-read that one of these days.

I grew up in a “poor dad” mindset household. I read that book in my early gradeschool years and I knew that something was wrong….ended up jumping into the entrepreneur wagon really early…had to do a lot of things to earn my own capital….had to fail a LOT….things would’ve been more simple with a “rich dad” mindset household…but that’s another story for another day LOL!

Love the inspirational post Donna. I’m a big fan 🙂

      Hi Dennis,

We all can do with more time and money lol. Indeed the more time we can work on things we love, the more money does come in and that equals success for me too!

I brought up this book particularly because I’ve read so many dull and boring ones about finance. I too grew up with that “poor dad” mindset, and I do believe the majority of us did as well.

This was one book that turned my mindset around years ago and this is why I suggest it for everyone to read in order to get their mindset ready for marketing. I do believe it all starts there, in your mind.

Great article as always and some very very important points. If you get success are you ready to support your team, you will then become that go to person and will probably be the “expert” on the three way calls. Suddenly you will have huge demands on your time! Not many people actually realize this.

Rich Dad, Poor Dad is a great book and everyone should read it regardless of what business they are in.

    Thanks for sharing.

      Hi Andy,

Absolutely! One has to be that go to person on their team and needs to be ready to have their time used wisely. I know not many people realize this, so that’s why I just needed to give the time factor a shout out. This way, when things do “shift” they can be ready to deal with it.

And yes, that book is required reading for my students. One has to change their mindset in order to know what to do when money comes rolling in besides paying their bills. I do see a lot of this going on. And yes, it is fine to catch up on bills, but what about the excess? Do they put it back into their business or start using money unwisely?

      Thanks for stopping by,

What a great post Donna, you’ve covered so many questions we need to address when starting our business. Regarding the issue of “time”, I think we should start delegating tasks to other people long before we see huge success. And, of course, doing that, frees up your time for doing higher level tasks. If you’re in a network marketing business, Having 100 people suddenly join your business opportunity is easier if your upline has training and systems in place to help these people too.

      Hi Julieanne,

One must be ready when it comes to time. Delegating our tasks is sure important. So, if one is not making strides yet, one must think of who and what is to be delegated. It could be as simple as house chores to having an assistant work on analytics! Anything that can free up our time so that we can focus on our business!

I like it when you mentioned that having 100 people suddenly join your business opportunity, is easier if your upline has the training and systems in place.

Now I have an idea for a blog post!

    Very interesting post, Donna.

TIME… As a network marketer, I always wondered what on earth I would do with “20 new leads per day” and similar promises saw from time to time. I didn’t want more than a few at a time, because I wanted to be able to give them the time they needed to grow into leaders who would do the same.

MONEY… If I had a sudden influx of cash, it would be a while before I could consider it “excess”! First I would pay off all of our debts, and wait till my income was thrice what my hubby makes. And then… well, I’ve never thought that far, because we aren’t there yet! Thank you for the knowledgeable post on what to do with that money, so we wouldn’t be wasting it, but would be putting it to work for us.

      Hi Willena,

As a network marketer, people sure are lucky to be under you! You care so much about others and give them your time and knowledge. But…If you had certain things in place, I’m sure you can gather them all up on a Google+ hangout once a week and record it for your down lines. This way they can grow into the leaders you need them to be.

When it comes to money I love the idea that you would want your income to be thrice as your hubby. When I started my off line business I was very competitive with my husband. I always wanted to make more money than him each and every week. It was something that kept me going.

    Hi Donna,

I firmly believe that there are lots of people for whom long term success does not come because they are not ready for it.

You mention Rich Dad, Poor Dad (which I loved) and he wrote about how rich people are usually leaders, and all great leaders are great promoters. To be a leader, you must inherently have followers and supporters, which means that you have to be adept at selling, inspiring, and motivating people to buy into your vision. Generally speaking, it is the leaders–those who can promote themselves and their products or services–who are able to amass great wealth.

Hmm…I have an idea for a blog post 🙂

True…we can prepare ourselves for success in many ways, but we also must know how to lead people.

We have to be adept at selling, inspiring and motivating people to buy our vision as you mention above. Also another great point you mention here is that leaders are those who can promote themselves and their product/services to gain wealth.

    Hi Donna,

I found your blog via Adrienne and was attracted to the Success post 🙂

I’m preparing to launch my first Internet Marketing related product shortly and found your checklist extremely helpful! I have some great people standing by to help me and have MOST of the things yo9u mentioned in place – but a timely reminder of the few i still need to finish off. Time is always a big challenge for me as I do have a habit of biting off more than I can chew!

The money side of success I’m fairly confident I can handle as I’ve been running my own business (offline) for over 39 years now, so I’ve survived many financial ups and downs. At least with an online business the financial commitments aren’t as scary as with an offline one.

“Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki. is a great book and I have also recommended it to my sons who both have their own businesses.

I look forward to reading more of your posts. Joy

      Hi Joy,

Welcome to my blog! So exciting to be launching your first Internet Marketing product! Glad you found this timely and helpful for you.

I’m sure that you know money well running your own business off line for 39 years. Yes, I know all about those financial ups and downs.

Time is something we need to prepare ourselves for. I too sometimes bite off more than I can chew. But I’ve had to hire an assistant to help and distribute other things for my time. It somehow works out.

      Glad to know you!

    Hi Donna,

    Really great post.

Time is something that’s really important as you pointed out.

If you don’t use your time wisely and prepare, you’ll quickly become overwhelmed. Especially if you unexpectedly received a increase in customers.

When it comes to money, the biggest thing is to reinvest some of it in your business. That’s what I really think. Of course save some money as well, but increase your business acumen and increase your business.

Great post. Really gave me something to think about.

Hope you have a terrific weekend.

      Hi Andrew,

We need to be prepared for how we are going to handle our time when business starts booming. It is one important thing we need to take into consideration, even if one hasn’t made a dime from their blog yet.

The day can come when their marketing starts to develop and then it is needed to sustain the business because there will be so many new people coming into your life.

Money is another factor. If one doesn’t understand what percentage needs to be put back into business, so it can increase, they will go down fast!

      Have a great weekend!

    Hi Donna

Very inspirational and informative post indeed.

I do agree that sometimes success comes late but it never comes too late. Time factor is equally important; if a person puts his whole young age to achieve a cause and do so in old age can he enjoy with same enthusiasm with several ageing signs.

You are right that it is difficult to achieve success but to maintain it, is equally a heck of the task. Your benchmark goes higher as soon as you keep going higher; so one needs to be rational and keep moving consistently after fully realizing his own strengths and weakness.

In blogging success is very relative term. We may see a blogger with envy for his success level but maybe he is quite desperate being at his present level. So we can’t say in definite terms what success is but can compare our success level with situational analysis which means reviewing where we were and now where we are.

Thanks a lot for sharing this wonderful post.

      Hi Mi Muba,

What you say is true. Learning to blog with success is one thing, but maintaining that success requires even greater dedication and, oh yes, time.

I’ve actually worked with bloggers who were so very successful at one time, and now can’t figure out why they struggle so to get traffic and engaged followers.

It’s usually because they stopped doing the basic things that once worked for them. They stopped putting their time into replying to each and everyone of the people who left them comments. Or they stopped reciprocating by going to those peoples’ blogs and leaving good, thoughtful comments for them.

Maybe they stopped doing social shares, or engaging with their followers on their favorite social sites.

These were all the “basics” that first gave them success, but then they got too busy to maintain it and started taking shortcuts by ignoring comments and failing to reciprocate.

When you forget the basics of blogging, your success will erode and disappear. It’s your job as a professional blogger to maintain a good work ethic on your blog, consistently. That’s how to keep your blog on top of the heap!

      Hi Mustafa,

I am so glad you found this as an eye opener! When it comes to money, many people are not ready for it. They really don’t understand how money really works. Hey, I didn’t in the past. I grew up in a blue collar working family. We earned and paid bills and maybe had a little left over for vacation.

That is the “working” mentality. The rich have another way of thinking and that is one I have adapted over the years. This is why I suggested this particular book because it is an eye opener for all of us that weren’t born rich.

    Hey Donna,

You know what? I just took a test the other day on facebook, and it said that I have a fear of success. Although these tests are bogus to me, but I think there’s some truth behind this. If so, this let’s me know that I’m not ready for success.

The reason I’m saying this is that there are some actions that I should’ve taken months ago that I haven’t taken yet. What am I waiting for? Well I feel like I need to narrow my marketing down and streamline it a bit. Especially blogging. I don’t want to be the octopus on rollerskates. Plus I know about the responsibilities of being successful and I know I have to step it up a bit.

Actually taking care of what needs to be done. I email my subscribers every week, I blog once a week, check google analytics, make necessary changes to my blog every couple of months, and so on. But it seems like I’m always missing something but yet I keep going with the routine. Maybe I need to break the routine or expand it.

But yes I know what you’re saying when you ask people if they’re ready for success. When I hear when others say it, I ask myself “are you sure? There’s a lot of responsibility that comes with it.” I thought i was ready some years ago when I was in network marketing, but as the years went, the more I realize that there are responsibilities that I have to maintain.

This was definitely a great post Donna. It really made me think and the points you pointed out will make other people think about this! Thanks for the share!

      Hi Sherman,

Maybe there is some truth to that test. Maybe there is an underlying fear subconsciously? I would suggest you look a little more closely into your subconscious. Sometimes there are things we don’t even realize that make us fearful of success.

Aha…the actions you should have taken? Sherman if there is one thing I know it is never to should on yourself lol. You now realize the actions to take…go for it.

Seems to me that you need to keep up with your blog and newsletters, but take an upward change to your marketing techniques.

Yes, success comes with many responsibilities. I always call my clients my boss he he he. We all need to examine how we will use our time. Kind of implement that into your DMO. Once you do, you will be working smart, not hard.

You know Sherman, the more work I have now on my plate, the more I have free time. Sounds funny hugh? But it is all about balance. And as I grow, I start to hire people who can pick up some tasks that I rather not do because of where I want to put my time in. I could be out there raking leaves now but I have someone to do it.

I could be walking my dogs, but someone takes care of that too. I could be going crazy with the properties I own, but I have a manager for that one.

All these tasks lifted from my mind keeps me more focused on what I’m doing now. So get ready…because once things start up, you can handle it with ease.

    Hi Donna,

Unlike many, I really do mean “bring it on!!!!”

I’ve been planning for it for the better part of the last year as I have made the transition from owning a business that gets paid once for one job and now getting paid for my ideas over and over again.

You are so right! If you don’t prepare you will be in a world of trouble. Not knowing any better ten years ago when I started my own business, I found myself in a world of hurt because I didn’t know what in the world I was doing.

That’s when I hired a business coach. He was just what I needed at the time to learn about processes and systems and how to put them in place in my business.

I once had a situation where I landed five web development projects all within two weeks of each other. If I had not had the processes and systems in place to handle the success it would have buried me.

I remember when I landed my first $100,000 website. What a day! Since we had been planning for it for about a month I knew exactly how I was going to reinvest the profits back into the business to support more growth.

That’s a real danger for most business owners who get their first real taste of success. It’s tempting to upgrade the car or buy a new expensive toy. I say hold back on those things and keep reinvesting in your marketing and your team in order to grow. There will be time for those other things when long-term stability follows because you’ve done a great job at planning for future success.

Time or money, which is more important? They are both important. It’s really encouraging that you covered both of these topics because time equals money. Ask any rich person and they count their time as more important and more valuable than virtually anything else.

I actually had a billionaire named Bradley Sugars once tell me; “Don, money by itself is worthless. It has one redemptive value and that is to allow you to do what you want, when you want, whenever you want, wherever you want and with whomever you want.”

That’s why wealthy people don’t clean their houses or mow their lawns. They are buying their time to use as they please.

I loved this post Donna!!! Thank you for being a fresh of breath air!

      Hi Don,

Thank you for shedding so much light to this post from sharing your experience! A business coach is a must in order to have success. I’ve had hired one in the past also. What you learn is the real deal of how that coach has been successful and so much more. Changing our mindset, knowing not to buy toys, how investments work, etc.

This is how you have established your business that caught on wildfire! And I am thankful that you have shared your story here.

Indeed, time and money are equally important. People pay for our time, and we need to put a price on that. I sure like that advice that the billionaire told you! I can resonate with that one so well.

And yes, this is why I don’t mow my lawn, nor do other tasks that take my time away from the core of my business. Money is just a way to give you the time you need to do what you need to do.

For me, it comes down to a mindset, one that many people do not have because they weren’t born “rich.” I wanted to send this message as a starting point for my readers and followers. Just by reading that book can help change one’s mindset.

Funny…people ask me why do you move so often? It is because things change in my life and if I choose to desire to move from a huge waterfall in my yard to the oceanfront I can. And I did that when I was in the middle of developing a product. But the key here is that I had someone do it for me so I could get back to work as quickly as possible.

Now that’s what happens when you know how to value your time!

      Thanks again Don.

    Hi Donna,

It’s so fascinating. I recall the old me versus the new me. Old me wanted plenty of stuff, many years ago. I wanted a home, a hot car, tons of money and other trappings but mentally I wasn’t prepared for these things. I wasn’t prepared to succeed. I wasn’t BEING the person to become the person. Fast forward to a few years down the road, after I started my travels.

My intent slowly and gradually changed. I didn’t want stuff. I wanted freedom. I was preparing. Then, I wanted freedom for others. I wanted other folks to live my life, to join me on my journey. I wasn’t even thinking about getting, really, just being, helping, creating, and being thankful for what I had and where I was. Success found me easily after the clarity finding sessions, and after I stopped so hard searching for it.

Success also occurred progressively for me. I saw massive breakthroughs for sure, but it was a nice, steady, success drip most of the time. I received clients, eBook sales and other neat blessings in the exact proportion that I was prepared to receive them, without being overwhelmed, which helped me enjoy my lifestyle without feeling swamped. Since my intent was to be free the Universe brought me freeing circumstances, not binding circumstances.

If I still wanted all that stuff I’d be bound, because I’d be stuck in one spot, trying to get use out of it. Travel taught me to change my intent, to align with a different type of success, and as that freeing success has flowed to me I’ve experienced things few folks on earth experience, even billionaires.

This past week I walked through the rice fields in Bali, courtesy of a private tour by a local friend. Her dad climbed up a coconut tree – no harness! – to grab us fresh coconuts, and we drank the juice after he brought them down. Then we attended a traditional Balinese kecak fire dance, then, the coolest thing happened! We were invited to a Balinese wedding, which is a hyper rare event for foreigners….and we even got dressed up in Balinese garb for the event. What a special, blessed, privileged experience, and all flowed to me as I allowed my new definition of success to take form.

Thanks Donna, these tips are so, so smart, for you must be prepared for success, for success to find you. Tweeting and Pinning from Bali 🙂

      Hi Ryan,

You always add flavor to my blog and I appreciate that. Yes, there was a time when my mindset wanted “stuff.” Then when I purchased my first house and other “stuff” I did have the feeling like I was trapped. I had thought it would give me the sense of “safety” but did I learn fast!

I still have my own home only because I want the freedom for my dogs to run around which is so important to me. I love when they howl and they would never fit in an rented space lol…I know we would get kicked out..they are hounds and they love to speak.

I know that feeling of changing your mindset; not thinking of money, but helping people first. This is why I started my journey here on the internet with the intent of helping my off line clients to have “freedom”

Some have followed me on this journey and changed their lives from being enslaved to a job, to blossoming their own unique business online. Now that is happiness for me!

It amazes me the lifestyle you live. Being in Bali and living with people of a different culture sure does open ones mind/body/spirit! It must have been so much fun at that wedding! These are the things money cannot buy. Only a lifestyle!

Your success came so easy when you made that “switch” of mindset. I knew you back then and now I see how happy you are living each day as one must in fulfillment!

      Blessings,

    Hi Donna,

This is something many people do not think about for sure. When I first read your question, of course I said I’m ready for success. Am I ready to do all the work that’s required – again the answer is yes. Much of your points remind me of how I dealt with the success of my team in Papua New Guinea. It was a lot of work and worth the success.

I also mentioned how we have to be prepared financially and know, in particular, how to handle that new source of income coming in. Success can be hard to handle when you don’t have a plan.

Everything you mentioned definitely is required and I hope people will use this and come back or take notes on how to handle their success.

    Another amazing perspective!

Time is the hardest for myself. I found that out the hard way. All, the preparation you can do. Will still overwell most. You have to experience each on your own. Not necessarily alone. Yet, going through managing your operations.During growth periods, can and will be exciting.

No fear, just learning to adapt on the way. We all get overwhelmed or put to much on your plates, per say. That is something I must work on, say hey I have really no time right now.

I believe it comes down to learning about how we can enjoy and learn growth.

Lots of us do find this out the hard way, that’s why I just had to write this post! Indeed, with all the preparation we do, it does eat up so much time. We can easily get overwhelmed if too much is on our plate.

Overwhelm does decrease productivity. This is why we need to have a strict plan and stick to it. Plus always make sure we have that “me time” each and every day.

Oh what a wonderful problem to have, becoming too successful too fast…Except for the not being prepared for it part. Especially if your success or failure hinges upon whether you were prepared for the onslaught of orders, etc. I think when most people start out in business they see success as so far off in the future that they don’t really think they need to plan for it. But you have made a lot of excellent points and I am quite sure opened a lot of peoples eyes and made us stop and think about our strategies for success in a whole new light. 🙂

Absolutely Susan, Many people don’t even think of this when they are starting out, or if they have been plugging away at their business for a while.

A long time ago, when I first started my entrepreneurship, I used to think of all the things I could buy when money rolled in. I soon figured out, that to have a long lasting business, one must keep putting money into it and/or investing in other areas.

When I read the above book, my mindset did change and so did the outcome of my ventures.

    Hi, Donna,

I really like that you talk about the “time” factor. A lot of bloggers don’t realize the time it takes to build traffic to their blog. It takes time to comment on other blogs, do guest posts and create social media posts.

Some bloggers don’t realize why they aren’t successful and it’s because they don’t realize it takes time and patience to build up a successful blog.

      Hi Sue Anne,

Time is something we must face realistically. Creating a good DMO to build traffic is working smartly.

Indeed, some bloggers that are impatient will never build a successful blog. It takes patience, persistence, and most of all a good marketing plan to set in place.

Bring it on baby! I’m SO ready for this. LOL!!! Seriously though Donna, I’ve given this a lot of thought which may be another reason I was dragging my feet because once this product is released I hope to be even busier than before which is a good thing really since I love what I do. But the thought of being able to help even more people out there, that just brings me so much joy.

The money, I’ve definitely given that a LOT of thought as well since I’m the sole provider yet I need to continue moving forward with my business as well.

I believe I’ve given this enough thought but you definitely shared some things we all need to be sure we have considered.

The good news is that once my product is released I can just continue to promote it and make sales. I have a few things I’ll need to stay on top of with it but at this time I believe I’ll be able to do that. If it brings me more consulting clients then I’ll schedule them as time allows for me too. Either way it’s not like I’m a freelance writer or I have to train people for my business. I did it this way for that reason too, I won’t get hit with more than I believe I can handle.

Great share Donna, thanks for pointing this out. Now, you be sure to enjoy your week okay!

      Hi Adrienne,

I am sure you have all your ducks in a row when that product rolls out Adrienne! I know you well enough to say that you are very detailed oriented, have a natural love for people, and have a strong business mind.

I’m sure that you are well prepared when those flood gates open and people come running through the door like it was Black Friday lol.

But it does happen, and I know you can handle it. You do spend so much time with people so you know exactly what you are doing. Now..they have the chance to work with you closely and pay for it because girl you deserve it!

As for money…I know you can handle that too!

      To your success!

I always enjoy your articles Donna but this one is simply brilliant! I’ve known so many people who quit just as they’re getting close to actually succeeding and it’s almost always because they didn’t prepare for the journey – either from a business or mindset perspective. I have no doubt this is just the kind of thing you teach in your programs. Thanks for the great advice and inspiration.

Good to know you have enjoyed this post! This is one thing many people do not include in their “business tool box”

    Hi Donna,

What a thought provoking post!! I wonder how you thought about writing such a post!! Very smart idea to discuss and indeed I never read such a post on the subject of success handled with such honesty. Indeed, we all want success but it is very important to be prepared for it when it comes or it will turn to be a negative experience about success, which I may call a burnout.

All your questions made perfect sense and I admit I couldn’t answer “Yes” to most of them. They are a must to ponder.

Really loved this post and all the advice you gave here are spot on and I will definitely read Kiyosaki’s book again as it is great on teaching about how to handle money and how to develop the rich mindset.

Thanks Donna for a great share and I will definitely pass it on as it is a must read by all entrepreneurs!! Have a great week ahead.

      Hi Neamat,

It is great to know that you enjoyed this post! The answer to your question of how I thought of writing this post is easy. It happened to me. It happened when I had an offline business years ago and did not know a darn thing about money. So I started reading all the financial “stuff” out there that board me to death. When “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” came out I resonated with it so well, that I started investing. I do wear many hats lol.

When it came to the time factor, I must say I did learn the hard way that business was controlling me and I was in a tizzy. So I rolled my sleeves up and ran business smartly. There were many people I couldn’t give my time to. I didn’t worry about loosing them as clients. Rather, I just honestly gave them a future date that fit my schedule. They waited and appreciated my time.

Online…It happened again. But knowing this, I had my strategy in place and still do. It’s funny Neamat, the more work that comes, the more I spend “me time” because I need that balance. It is a mindset that has no room for fear and does work out well.

Going through this myself is the answer to your question.

So get that book out again to read and set up a good time strategy when things start rolling.

    Hi there Donna!

You’re right there isn’t much talk about this part of marketing.

This post definitely got me thinking. I’ll admit while I was reading your post I thought exactly what you said…oh yeah I’m ready, bring it. But after reading this post I started to realize I may not be so ready after all and I’m mainly referring to time. I know there would be a lot of things to do but they way you described it here, I would definitely have to leave out “me time” to accommodate something else.

As far as money goes…although I dream of success an influx of money is not the first thing that pops into my head. If and WHEN it does happen, I know that money is for business purposes only. But I know what money can do too. I had a relative who had a business but instead of giving himself a salary he just took all the profits. I don’t think he made it through the year. I always keep that scenario in my mind to keep me focused on doing right by my business.

I’m so glad you wrote this, thank you! Hope you’re having a great week!

      Hi Corina,

Indeed, there isn’t much talk about this in the marketing realms. But it is one key factor that must be considered.

Time … what if one day business starts coming in like wildfire and you need to make that shift in your life? One must be prepared for that.

I’ve seen too many not taking this into consideration and all that business flowed through their hands like water. So, I wouldn’t want to see this happen to anyone!

I would disagree on one thing Corina…never leave out the “me time” because when things start rolling in, your “me time” is going to be so important. You will just figure out how to shift things around and also distribute some of the work load.

I love the example you shared when it comes to money. That relative of yours is one of the greatest examples of what people sometimes do and then fall flat on their face. We have to work smartly and invest smartly.

But when it comes to money, we have to see it for what it is. Not from the employee mindset.

Thanks for adding flavor to this post!

    Donna,

This is something lots of people don’t think about, but you’re really wise to bring it up– of course most of us feel like we’re ready for success, but as you so perfectly described here, readiness can be more complicated than you might think.

When NerdyGirl Writers got our first order for 100 blog posts, I felt like I was drowning in work! Luckily we were able to meet our deadline, but it was pretty crazy trying to figure out our workflow with such a huge order to complete.

    I’ll make sure to share!

      Hi Brittany,

I could only imagine having an order for 100 blog posts to do on a deadline. Gosh, it could of all crashed around you if you weren’t ready for it.

That’s the thing: Many people don’t thing things through. Sometimes their expectations are low. But if we raise our expectations and imagine a breakthrough in something, we really need to be ready for it.

Yes, readiness is more complicated than one thinks.

    Hi Donna,

What an incredible post with a very thought-provoking content! Thank you for bringing it up!

A few short years ago when I started my network marketing business ( and for most part, some of the best business lessons I learned in my life, I learnt through the education system of my network marketing business,) my coach who is extremely successful and a self-made multibillionaire, asked me, “Kumar, if I transfer my business on your name today, review be able to handle my existing business and grow it further?”

My immediate answer without any hesitation was, “I don’t think I am ready for such a large rsponsibility”.

And I learnt my lesson. I needed to prepare myself so I could be worthy of the success I desire. If I get lucky and I am not prepared, I will lose that luck anyway because I am not ready for it.

Since then, I have invested my time, my energy and all my focus whenever I get the opportunity to learn and to grow myself so I am prepared for bigger and better success. I think that the reason most people do not succeed and overlook tremendous opportunities because they are not prepared to recognize great opportunities that are present right in front of them.

Some people, even if they get lucky, they failed to seize the opportunity in their favor. Why? Because they are not prepared!

What you shared today is an incredible success principle and those who embrace this lesson, will tremendously benefit from this knowledge. Thank you very much for sharing and you have a wonderful new week.

    Regards,
    Kumar

      Hi Kumar,

Your coach sounds like a wise man. Just asking you that question must have opened your eyes to the huge responsibility it would take to have all that business turned over to you.

Sure glad to know that you had learned a good lesson to prepare yourself for success. Many people have a knee jerk reaction and say yes right away, but never thinking of the responsibility.

Indeed if we are prepared for success, and know how much time we can devote to it, plus have a back up plan to get to know others that we can hire to make a business run smoothly we are half way there.

Plus, most people don’t know how money works. The majority of people have a work mentality that supports the school of thought that make money and spend it right away. Not the road one wants to take in business.

This is why I had to suggest reading “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” because it is a very easy way to get this concept of money, without studying the whole financial structure.

It prepares people to think differently and when their business booms…they are ready to handle it.

As always, thank you for your awesome comment.

    Hi Donna,

Great point and I bet that many people have done that. We are fishing for success, but do we have a strong enough fishing rod when a big fish is biting?

I know that has happened to me thinking, wow, now if I was to get 10 new clients this week/month, would I even be able to handle them at all? shamefully the answer was more often than not “no.” But I’m getting better I hope 🙂

Now, when it comes to money people are even worse. That’s why it’s a known fact that “broke-minded-people” tend to quickly lose as fast as they earn or win when it comes to big amounts of money.

I do have Rich Dad Poor Dad and I’ve read it few years ago. Anyone reading this post should go grab a copy, it’s worth it because it teaches a lot about money.

Success is most definitely linked to knowing how to manage our time and money, so thank you so much for this wonderful reminder.

      Hi Sylviane,

You have a good grip on this subject! You have successfully figured out your time. What if you had 10 clients come to you in one week? Could you handle it in time? Of course I know you and you would give them the time frames you have. You thought this through…BRAVO!

So many people don’t think this way Sylviane. They are so busy chasing numbers, that if it does all fall into their lap, they are not ready to service them all. So what would happen? A collapse!

True, when it comes to money, people are even worse sometimes. Indeed, the “Broke minded People” have the mindset to spend as fast as they earn and this will never get them to keep on going with their business.

“Rich Dad, Poor Dad” had given me a great mindset when it came to money. It is so easy to follow and really made me think. Since I read that book years ago, I have applied the principles and boy oh boy do they work!

Thanks so much for your great input!

    Hi Harleena,

Success is a funny word and has different meanings to different people. If we have not reached that point whereby those flood gates open and your life changes because you have reached a part of your journey that is bringing in more money than you expected, one needs to be ready.

I’ve seen the images of success with the fancy cars, and the elaborate vacations. It always makes me wonder is that what equates success? And furthermore, if that person is showing me these images, are they using their money wisely?

This takes me to the book “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” and how important it is for every marketer to read. We need to know how to use money. It is a means to a goal, but will it work for you? Will it just make you happy to buy a bunch of toys? Or….will one use it wisely.

I do think your Dad is correct…get the book…read it! I am sure it will change your mind of how money really works. I’m sure you can find the time…maybe 10 minutes a day to start.

    Have a wonderful week!

    Hi Donna,

Your post surely made me think about success 🙂

While some people think they have achieved and done it all, others feel it’s way beyond them. You have people from all walks of life who think differently, but time and money, I think is something everyone struggles with, at least initially when they are establishing themselves or striving for success, isn’t it?

I loved the questions you asked, and I could hardly say yes to a limited few, which means success is yet a far cry! There is SO much to do and manage and time is always short, no matter what you try or the management techniques you follow, time is never enough. Just when you think you have the time now to do such and such thing, something else comes up or distracts you. I know we need to take things on priority and work backwards, and I guess we all do that to a certain extent too, but times honestly waits for NO one 🙂

Money too is a huge factor for those who evaluate it to their success, while for others it is essential, though not the start and end of it all. I still have to read that book – my Dad says it’s one must-read one, so I would be perhaps when I take the next blogging break! Loved the concept of thinking to be rich and that’s exactly how the LOA starts working in your favor 🙂

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead 🙂
