Look Back To Move Forward

Look Back To Move Forward

Sometimes we need to take time out to revisit what we have accomplished in running our own business.  I find that to look back is to move forward.  It is an amazing experience.

David and I decided to take time off at the end of 2014 and start 2015 with a fresh new review of our business.  I talked about it in my last post whereby I was looking back on all the things we had accomplished during the last year.

We decided to bring in the new year by visiting my step daughter and her children which is a 5 hour drive.  We drove through the town of Nyack, New York where I had begun my private consulting practice some years back.  I just had to get out and look back at all the time I had spent there building a business from nothing to a thriving one.  It still stands there, as I have sublet it to an associate.   Nyack is a quaint town with many visitors because it is close by New York City.  There are many entertaining restaurants and bars so it was a great place to set up shop.  So I rented a little spot in a mini-mall where the same sign still stands.

Looking Back to move forward     Yep folks, “Mind Over Matter” was my first offline business   The service was psychic readings by me.  Oh  you didn’t know that?  lol.   It was my office, but also a quaint little shop filled with things like candles, tarot cards, books and just about anything to do with the paranormal.

I reminisced how I had turned this little shop tucked away in the back corner of an off-beat mini mall into a thriving professional practice and retail shop.  I realized that I had been a pretty savvy marketer even though I didn’t know it at the time.  I did radio shows, was featured in the local newspapers,  and set a low price for a short amount of my time to curiosity seekers a “taste” of the service I was offering.   Then, people would come back for more…and pay more!  I had set up a sales funnel without even knowing it!

As this dawned on me, I thought how the more we revisit the past and really take a look at it, the more confidence we have for moving forward.

It was about this time that David had just started looking into the internet to find out how it might help us build our business.  I took some interest in it, and soon realized that so many of my clients had problems with their jobs and careers.  Many simply felt stuck, and unfulfilled.  I figured blogging was a great way for me to learn to help my clients start their own online business.  So I started learning as a stumbling baby blogger.

Look Back To Move Forward  There we were… baby bloggers starting  out on a journey of the most fantastic business I know.  This really got to me during my visit because I had forgotten the time when David first started learning how to blog.  He was following a “guru” at the time, and also learning deeper internet marketing strategies… he’s really good at that!

I, on the other hand, was learning at a slower pace because I was balancing my new online business with my established practice.  As I look back at being a baby blogger, I am pretty amazed at how much I have moved forward.

Sometimes you can look back through memories, but visiting a place where you started really gets into your soul.

As blogging took us by storm, we realized we didn’t need to live in Nyack anymore.  We could grab our computer and go anywhere.  So we decided to move to a place where there was more nature, fewer people, and I even took my practice with me via telephone consultation.

looking back to move forward We found a wonderful home next to this waterfall in Ithaca, New York, right at the edge of Cornell University.  Compared with how I had to show up every day at my shop, I was free!  Free to live that telephone and laptop lifestyle.  I needed to be near running water and this was it.  This is where I really revved up my blogging business.  So, looking back at this, made me realize that I was blogging practically full time, even as my private practice got busier!  I found myself taking many walks to the waterfall, just to clear my head.

So you see, as I look back, I can see how I was moving forward, not only in business, but in lifestyle!   But nothing lasts forever.  Things started getting very crowded in Ithaca.  There was more building of homes, more noise and most of all, more people getting in my way at the waterfalls.  We had just started working on our first digital product.  We had coaches and were working relentlessly , but I just couldn’t concentrate with all the noise so, once again… I was ready to move to a quieter place.

look back to move forward  Which way should I go?  I realized that since I was living a total laptop lifestyle, I could move anywhere I wanted.  We traveled to many possible places with our laptops, never missing a beat.  I decided that I really wanted to live by the ocean, but I needed to have four seasons, too.  We had vacationed in Maine for many years so we searched out homes in that area.

Oh boy… looking back we sure did take a lot of time doing that one.  Moving is stressful, especially when you are in the middle of making your own product for the first time!  As I look back, though, I continued to move forward with my business despite all the disruptions.

Have laptop will travel, moving here, moving there.  Staying in a hotel until all was settled wasn’t the most pleasant thing to do, but I continued blogging working with David on our digital product.    Looking back at that, I can hardly imagine how I kept moving forward with my business, even through all the transitional turmoil.

Your Blog Is A Sales Funnel

Looking Back To Move Forward  So here we are goofing around at the beach!  Since the move to Maine, we have created several online products and business is awesome.

So my question to you is, how often do you look back?  Does it give you the confidence to move forward?  If not, take some time out and re-visit when you first started doing your own online blog and business.  How much has it changed?  But more importantly how much has your lifestyle change?

Lets start 2015 out right… make it the BEST YEAR EVER!

    Hi Jackson,

Thanks so much for your kind words. I love working with my husband who I’ve admired since the day I met him for the person he is and his mind. He always keeps me interested.

Yes this was written from a positive point of view. There were struggles as usual, but the truth is the positive had weighed the negative. It was a time of my life to fight or flight. HA…Thank God for my spunk…I did not flight, but fight my way through. Not an easy task with someone who didn’t have any money back then, just a hope and a dream.

I took a chance..people thought I was nuts, but somehow I just knew it would work and it did.

As humans, we are growing creatures. I’m sure glad I had grown into the laptop lifestyle because I don’t have to show up to my office anymore. I can be anywhere and work.

    Hey Donna,

This is one of the reasons why I love blogging especially the relationship building type of blogging. When we connect with people we become part of them such that stories of how they moved from zero to hero becomes our driving force.

I really admire your style and that of your husband. Pretty great team as I have always known! It’s always said that our past makes way for the future to set in. There can never be any future without a past. What I really love about your story of looking back to move forward is that you looked back at the positive part of your life and then used it to your advantage.

This is an inspiring story Donna and I really love the laptop lifestyle you have been living. It’s something I can pick from your brain 🙂

Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Have a wonderful week ahead my friend!

What a great story and very inspiring too. Good timing too as the year begins makes one to take that journey back and take stock. Then begin the journey ahead with more energy and fresh anointing. Thanks for the inspiration.

      Hi Siphosith,

Yes, the timing was on point as the new year began. It is important sometimes to look way back and take stock of all accomplished over several years.

I do have a new view from this break I took and have fresh eyes for this new year.

Hi Donna. I really enjoyed reading about your journey and how far you have come. What a fantastic idea to review all that you have accomplished this past year.

I have not consciously stopped to do the same, but I can really see the value in doing so and honestly can’t believe I haven’t done it yet! (Too often we plow ahead without stopping and taking a breather it seems.)

So, I’m glad that I read your post. It’s prompted me to seriously consider scheduling sometime to reflect and retool.

Thanks for sharing such a motivational post!

Hi Donna. A lot of people avoid looking back because they think that means being stuck in the past. You’ve given the balance. Look back in order to learn from the good and the bad, so you can move forward more productively. Thank you for sharing more of your story and what you’ve learned from it!

This experience forced me to look back as I traveled and gosh what an eye opener

    Hi, Donna,

Oh I really enjoyed reading about your journey, and found that we’re a lot alike. Your moving about to find the right balance with nature/lifestyle is exactly what I’ve done. Now, I’m in Tampa, Florida and love it. 🙂 I can completely relate to you when you say you were moving forward despite the disruptions – been there, done that, but it’s harder the older I get. LOL

December is the time for reflection for me, at least a more detailed look of my past and determining where I want to be headed. So, yes – have visited my past, re-evaluated and enjoyed looking at all the good times and challenging times to see how I got to where I am, and also plan new goals, personal and business.

You’re absolutely right! Great question! How much has my lifestyle changed? A lot! Love working from home, flexible hours, take time off when I want, travel any where… Wouldn’t change a thing except helping more people…

Gonna do my best to make it my best year ever, Donna, and I’m thankful for the blessings in my life. You’re a blessing! 🙂

      Hi Carol,

Looks like we are a lot alike! I usually don’t look back that far, but this trip made me go down that memory lane. It was a jaw dropping experience to actually visit the places I started business.

I also took a look at the apartment where it all started. Gosh, I’m not one for memories, but they flooded in. I pondered on so many things I have done during that time until now.

But as I get older, I want it more quiet and more nature around me. I never would have thought of that years ago he he he It was big city life and stiletto heels all the way. But we grow, adapt and create what we need in life.

I do feel very blessed and am blessed knowing you.

    Hi Andrew,

Come on up the beach is fine! It is a nice warm three degrees here today lol. But I can still enjoy it sitting in my car.

I don’t usually look back, but on this little trip, it made me realize all the things I had done in the past. I guess I was too busy plunging ahead and not thinking of where things started.

I sure was a great feeling to measure the many changes I had done in the past.

    Hi Donna,

Happy New Year to you and David.

Can’t get you away from the beach, huh?

I’d love to be at the beach right now … instead it’s -20 and is the type of weather that makes you motivated to do absolutely nothing.

Anyway, you seemed like you had an awesome 2014. There was a lot of stuff you had in motion and I have no doubt that you’ll make 2015 even better.

I’ll admit that I don’t look back that much. I’ve only been blogging for about a year and a half and really the only things I look back on, is the mistakes I made. But, without making those mistakes, I probably never would have learned.

Anyway, it’s good to reflect from time to time and I’m glad you got us thinking about that.

      Hi Nanda,

Sometimes when we look back at those things that have been disturbing, we look at ourselves now and say “Hey I made it and I’m still here” and that my friend is one thing to celebrate! How we have overcome many things in our own lives. I know..been there, done that and quite amazed how I ever survived.

But then we look at our business…how we struggled from the beginning and where we are now, and look forward to building more upon it.

I wish you all the best for this year so that you too can help people. With that in your heart, you cannot loose!

      Blessings to you,

Donna, you and Dave bring out the best in people. That is an amazing gift.

I re-visit my past and walked through beginnings. It was painful and yet some experience one will never forget. Ups and downs.

My goal this year is to establish my first Foundation. It is a hard road and one I am equipped for, now. That is based on the look back method. I have a easy way of visualizing things needing to get done. So I walk through each step through my mind first. Then, the paper, it had to be placed. Each step until the end result was shown. Now, all I have to do, is take my clarity and focus only on execution of daily strategic activities. As it was given in my vision. Written down on this paper and get it done!

Thanks to you and Dave. My life is possible to help so many people. More than I could have imagined. Everything else along the way to my end result. Will be a benefit of experiences.

Thank you both for motivating this reader.

      Hi William,

I’m so happy to know this motivated you. Yes, we do have to look back at times at those ups and downs. Here I explained the positive side, but there were many obstacles I had to face during the process. Lots of my past was painful, but when faced and worked out in my subconscious mind, I had it reprogrammed by EMDR Therapy. Wow…no more noise in this old head lol.

Aha…you are using a very great process of visualizing. Then writing it down on paper…that gets it out of your head and is the first step to utilize.

If you had that vision, you can make anything possible, as long as you take baby steps with full focus one each one. You will be surprised how well that works when reaching the goal you want.

Wishing you all the blessings and success you deserve my friend,

    Happy New Year Donna!

Wow…what a blessing to live very close to the beach. That would be the next best thing to heaven to me!

Yesterday we went on my all-time favorite hike in the Bay Area. We started a 13-mile hike at a beautiful spot at the beach where Waddell Creek meets the Pacific Ocean. Then we made our way through forests of redwoods, sorrel and ferns to Berry Creek Falls, a 70-ft waterfall that is wonderfully set among a picturesque backdrop.

One day I will live off the ocean–it is on my dream board!

      Hi Rachel,

It is a slice of heaven even in the snow! Somehow it is a bit magical seeing the beach at low tide while the snow starts covering the sand. I like the four seasons, and the water from the ocean does warm up the area a bit.

What a wonderful share of your hike. I always wanted to see the redwoods…I’ll get there some day. That waterfall sounds delightful!

I find that any moving water carries with it a peaceful energy.

I am glad the ocean is on your dream board…I know you can make that happen one day.

    Hey Donna,

Great to hear that you and David took some time off as well. I’m actually still on vacation but it will officially end on Monday. It’s been great really, had a lot of things I needed to do offline and then like you, look back at how last year went so I can look forward to what this year has to bring.

I’ve also come a very long way although I’ve not moved three times like you have. It will feel that way by the time I have my house redone which will probably be next month. Yep, things will be a mess for a little while.

I think reflecting back on our lives though is very healthy. Things are always changing and we have to change right along with them if we want to keep progressing. I admire what you and David have created with your business and I know it’s only going to continue to grow this year as well.

Thanks for reminiscing with us, I enjoyed hearing about your life. I want to wish you both the very best in 2015 and enjoy the rest of your week my dear.

Well, we also decided to go back home this past November. It did indeed remind me of how far we have come… both logistically and in business! I just started my new company in July 2014 (the last one I’ll ever create). Flying back home brought back many things, some of it painful, but through it all, I counted all the blessings! 2 new grandchildren by my two daughters, only 24 hours apart! Talk about high emotions! It was great seeing everyone. It’s been a few years, since my Mother’s funeral.

2015 feels like it’s off to a great start. I truly appreciate you sharing your journey. So many signs to show just how much the two of you have grown. It sounds like you’ve found your earthly “forever home.” I couldn’t be happier for you, David, and your Mother. I’m sure the dogs love the beach too!

    Hey Donna,

I never knew that you are into psychic stuff. Perhaps you can plan something online for your paranormal things.

Agreed with you about looking back into the past can really help moving foreword. Experiences from the past sometimes get lost into the clutter that needs to be dug out.

Great to know that you have shifted to a place where there is more nature. As a fellow blogger I have thought about this so many time in the past decade but never applied. Good to see that you have already implemented it, nice work.

    thanks,

      Hi Uttoran,

I still am active with my psychic business, but it is all off line. It would be too much for me to write about it without monetizing it. I do have enough of clients in that business, and barely take on more. 🙂

I usually don’t look back so far but during this trip, it amazed me of how many things I’ve done in the past decade! You don’t think about things as you take action and move forward. It was a great reminder for me.

I made a few moves during the past and they have all suited me well. Right now, as I write I look out a huge window in my home office at a few homes around me nestled among pine trees. We do have glistening snow around us and it is pretty cold. But almost every day I can go to the beach, even for just 10 minutes and appreciate it’s beauty.

      Thanks for stopping by!

    Hi Donna

First of all a very Happy New Year to you and yours.

I heard several while reading the success stories of great people that once they moved forward they never looked back.

But the idea you shared here does have a different meaning that aims to get a boost from the past and fuel the future with it.

I also be disconnected from the online world for the whole day once in a month and even never pick my cell phone. I also try to spend the day with people who have nothing to do with internet and computer and in my part of the world such people are more than online aware people. I enjoy this change and then get back to work with more energy.

Yes, the idea of travelling while being at work is very fascinating to me. Once I tried to do this but my lovely daughters complained me of my sticking to laptop at a wonderful picnic resort. 🙂

Yes a long journey can be made while blogging and even with family to enjoy whole day and work in the evening at hotel’s room. In next vacation I have plan to go to some beautiful places away from my city.

Thanks a lot for sharing such wonderful and enticing post that convinced me again that if we are online professional why we stick to one place and avoid watching beautiful places of the world without making any off to our work.

      Hi Mi Muba,

I usually never look back, but always forward. When I encountered that blast from the past visiting It really dawned on me, how far I had come. Even with lifestyle changes. It was a confidence booster for me. 🙂

It is good to know that you spend time unplugged and enjoy people who have nothing to do with the internet. Yes, that does make us feel fresh when we get back online. I could just imagine your daughters complaining about using your laptop at that wonderful resort. he he he

My daughter is an email marketer and every time it rings, she responds. So, at dinner when she visits, she is not allowed to have her phone turned on.

Yes, we can go on vacation and peek in once in a while. But it is so important to balance our lives. Especially when it comes to family. Being unplugged for a while is a great thing to do.

      Hi Brittany,

Good to know you found this share inspiring. From off line to on line I have been an entrepreneur most of my life. It is just something in me that drives me to create my own businesses. But of course, I cannot take all the credit. I do contemplate with God before I act upon anything.

I have been living the laptop lifestyle for several years. I’ve been paying bills with my Mind over Matter consulting business all along. I still do! But I use phone sessions and now with IChat and Skype…it’s easy as pie.

I also had blindly invested in purchasing real estate…several homes that I ether flipped or kept over the years. It didn’t make me rich, but kept me going on bills. Because the economy has changed, I sold most of them….only have 2 now thank God.

When I followed my husband on to the internet, we were doing affiliate sales. That kept things going. But now as we progressed and started making our own digital products, we are on a roll.

I would say that you focus on marketing skills and learn as much as you can Brittany. You have a great blog. Now find a way to monetize it.

    Hi Donna,

Wow, I learned something new about you today. You have many skills. Your first offline business was a very unique one. I do think it is very important to look back and really think about how far we have come. Your story is an excellent example of that.

Many times we beat ourselves up because we are always comparing ourselves to other bloggers and we sometimes do not think we measure up. I think we are all unique and no one can really copy who we are. We must take advantage of that and continue to move forward in a positive way while impacting others with our unique style.

Blogging is such a wonderful way to connect with so many people from different walks of life. It offers us the opportunity to learn so much and support others while we do so. I thank you for sharing your story with us today my friend.

      Hi Nathaniel,

Oh yes indeed that offline business was a tough nut to crack. I can write a book about how some absolutely hated me for opening up this shop. They called me a witch, thought I was there to put curses on others…ha! Not at all. I only use my ESP to help others dig deep down and make their own choices.

But I handled it as a business…a positive one! I always took the high road and then taught others that had ESP how they too can be in business. They were pretty successful!

I never compared myself to others. Not in life, business, blogging…. we are all unique and have to bring to the table our unique talents. And yes, blogging is such a joy to connect with people from different walks of life.

I am about 2 hours from Nyak. I had a friend there for years – lost track of her over the last 5-6 years, but I used to visit her quite frequently in Nyak. You’re right, a quaint little town. ‘Quaint’ is the perfect word for it.

You reminded me in this post and caused me to look back when I used to visit there. It is nice to look back and see where you’ve come from and how far you’ve come.

I just had to reflect as I returned to these old stomping grounds of mine. The only thing I did miss was the restaurant that was next to the shop where I had great lunches and happy hours he he he.

    Hey Donna,

What a great journey. I do remember you writing about your first offline business as a psychic in a couple of previous posts. That is definitely amazing. I do like to read more books about it and seen some videos on YouTube. I guess it has something to do with the pineal gland.

But anyways, you have made some big moves during your journey. From Ithaca, to Maine. On top of that, you maintained your blog and business so well and put out your product. You and David must have some super powers 😉 But we all know it’s all about passion. You definitely have a lot of passion in helping people which is why so many people in general are attracted to you.

The only moves I’ve made so far are doing the things I enjoy doing. i believe this is why I’ve been improving a lot throughout the past year. I focus more on living on the moment and set out to enjoy life much more. When I look back, I can honestly say I’ve accomplished a lot as well as learned a lot. With that said, this makes me more excited about what the future will bring!

Thanks for sharing Donna! May you and David have a great 2015!

Great to know you are improving throughout the past year. Funny how life teaches us how to live in the moment and enjoy life. I can too and that took a lot for me to do lol.

      Hi Bren,

I usually don’t look way back…I like to measure my quarterly statements and yearly stuff I’ve done. But this trip took me back to where I really started doing my off line business. Yes I am a psychic and still do that via phone and IChat. But I’ve been doing it for so long, it does take its toll on me.

It was a fun place to grow up my daughter and having a business a few blocks away from the apartment we lived in. It was so convenient.

But then…the internet came along. David was there first. I continued to be at my shop all hours until the evening.

That’s when I jumped into the laptop lifestyle. No more getting all dressed up every day, having appointments with people and wearing those darn high heels…. lol

Once I trained my clients to do phone readings, I moved to Ithaca because I found a house near that beautiful waterfall. We were there for 12 years and then “low cost housing” started building around us. It was my call to move so we could still get a great price on our home and we did.

I had the bright idea to move to the beach, but wanted the 4 seasons, so here I am, in a quiet little village with the ocean 2 miles away. As I write, I’m in my home office looking out at great pine trees and keeping my eye on the dogs…I purchased this home for the large fenced in yard. he he.

I think if you have the “I’ll wait 10 years for retirement” you are going to move slowly. Rather, if you change your mindset that retirement is one year away, I’m sure you can pump up business!

      Just say’n

Have a very happy prosperous new year!

    Hi Donna,

I love this post! I can see how happy you and your husband are and that just motivates me to work harder to achieve that. My husband is a longshoreman. Although he doesn’t leave offshore he works on the city docks and works anywhere from 60 to 98 hours a week. I would love for him to really slow down and I know if I keep at this then one day he can and we can be free like you :).

I need to look back on things more often. Toward the end of the year I was wondering what I did this year. Whether I moved the needle or not. I made a list of things and it felt good to see the progress I’ve made. For someone who struggles with self-confidence that was a huge motivator. No, I didn’t make boo-koos of money but I made a little profit and you betcha I celebrated! LOL. Baby steps, right? 🙂

Thank you for sharing your story with us. This is the type of posts I love reading. It really reignites my passion for what I do.

      Hi Corina,

Gosh your husband is one hard working man! It is not easy doing what he does. I’m sure you want to succeed to reach the goal of alleviating his work. But, it takes time!

I always like to look back a bit business wise. I do a quarterly income statement for business purposes, but it is different.

This trip taught me a lot. I can remember the intense fear of opening that shop. All kinds of things ran through my mind. But no matter what, I did it! It was a shot in the dark because I didn’t have enough money to start up properly, but persistence was my best friend.

Now, after years of change, and living different places that suited my lifestyle, here I am on the coast of Maine. I find peace and solitude here and it is a place where I can take a break every day and be close to nature.

Working with the man I love is the best gift of all. Living the laptop lifestyle is another blessing. So I thank God every day and never take it for granted.

Wishing you all the best for 2015,

I really enjoyed reading this. I would’ve never have guessed your first business was selling psychic / paranormal items and services. Cool!

It’s so amazing where life can take us, often unexpectedly. Even just 5 years ago I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything close to what I’m doing now. I never knew what I wanted to do as a profession and looked hard for one for the longest time. Then, one day it came to me. And here I am commenting on your blog right now.

It’s so strange to think that something could happen today that would change our lives forever. Exciting to think about!

It is amazing where life can take us. We try one thing out and boom..it explodes into a business that we would have never thought of being in.

When David first started using blogging and learning so much, I thought “oh that’s his thing, I have my own business to run.”

But then I had that AHA moment and jumped right into internet marketing. It’s been exciting and the best part of it all is that it is not a stagnant thing. Marketing trends change quickly and I like that!

Plus, I don’t have to “show up” at my shop, I live the laptop lifestyle and can move anywhere I want. I like living in different places for a time. I love change!

Your passion for marketing shows through here on your blog and obviously was present in your first business as well.

      Hi Irish,

I would love to have you sticking around 🙂 Thank you for letting me know I had inspired you. That’s the major goal of my life. If I can touch but one person, I’ve done my job. There is a saying like that, but I’m only on my first cup of coffee he he he.

I am thrilled for you that you have some launches up your sleeve for 2015.

You could shout me out anytime! I always return the favor you know, that’s what blogging buddies are all about.

      Cheers!

    Hi Donna,

What a great story. This post came at critical moment for me because I was out of blogging for more than a year.

I tried other things like freelance web design and somehow it was hard to persuade myself to start blogging again. Actually you said it very well, look back to move forward. I just did that.

I found that year of absence as a good business experience and why not share it with others.

It’s amazing how you moved from town to town but never actually leaved a blogging. After all, life writes the best stories.

Thanks again for this wonderful personal story and a Happy New Year.

      Hi Dragan,

Glad you enjoyed this little story. It is so difficult to be doing freelance web design and run your own. I know some people who do that and abandon their own blog because of all the overwhelming work.

But it is important to keep your blog going….I just read your last post and you are a great writer and also have wonderful services to offer.

I usually don’t write things like this, but it moved me so much that I gained the confidence to push myself more for the coming year.

      Hi Vivette,

Good to hear that you have reflected upon what needs to be done in your business during 2015. Seeing where we fall short on our goals is such a great lesson for us not to repeat.

I am sure 2015 will be a life changer for you!

That’s really awesome Donna! It really is about having the guts, strength and fortitude to see it through. I agree, it is neat to see where we’ve come from and where we are at with out eyes fixed on where we are going!!!!

Eye opening for sure! So happy for you!!!!

        Hi Don,

It is about having the guts to be who we are and what we want to do. Especially doing it without someone with cash backing you up.

When it is up to us we need the strength and fortitude to see it through. Yep..the guts to take chances no matter what.

When I think of this, I remember many stories of successful people who “gave it all up” i.e. all the luxuries of life to create their business. Gotta have guts to do that one!

    Hi Donna,

What a journey, isn’t it wonderful to take a look back to see where you’ve come from and ponder where you’re going?

Your journey is an inspiration and I love that you decided what you wanted out of life and then pursued it with passionate abandon!!!!

Personally, I don’t look back very often. For me it doesn’t serve a very good purpose when I’m looking forward. Occasionally, yes I reminisce but my eye is really on the prize.

But, when I do look back it amazes me to think of those moments that changed our lives over the last 20 years. It serves to inspire and remind me of where I came from of which I will never forget!

Thank you for sharing your inspiring story!!!

    Happy New Year Donna!

      Hi Don,

I too, am not the kind of gal that looks back and maybe that’s why I was so stunned by all I’ve gone through in business when I visited where it all began.

Every business decision, every time I “marketed” myself via radio and news never realizing it was all part of a marketing procedure stunned me a bit.

I chose the entrepreneur lifestyle even before this doing other things such as investing in real estate, selling books the old way via snail mail.

But when I do look back it comes down the having he “guts” to do it. To take chances, to believe in what I wanted to do and act upon it.

Now, living the laptop lifestyle, I am so grateful.

    Hi Donna,

Really, really enjoyed that post and the pictures, especially the last one. What a great picture of the two of you my friends 🙂

I was off for over 10 days, so I had lots of time to reflect on the past, as well as planning for my future. I agree with you, Thinking of the past is up-building that way, and help us build the future.

As you know, soon I’ll be able to do just that too. I will be able to revisit old places of my life. As you said it does touch your very soul when you do that.

In my case, I feel like going back to Europe will be some kind of a full circle. It will be 22 years on January 17 that I’ve landed in New York city, and the feeling that I need to go back to the source at this time in my life is pretty overwhelming. I can’t ignore it.

As you said, the lap top lifestyle allows us to go anywhere and still do business. That’s the beauty of it all.

Thank you for sharing your story with us, and very happy new year to you and David.

      Hi Sylviane,

If anyone could understand this post it is you! When the new year rolls around, people tend to look back at the previous year thinking of their accomplishments and all they went through.

But this trip took me to a deeper level…. a soul level when I passed where I used to live, bringing up my daughter and having my old shop that still stands there. It grabbed my heart and made me feel confident about what I am doing now. What a great feeling that is!

I just had to stick in that silly picture of me and David because this is how we are living our lives now.

In your case, going back to Europe after 22 years, I know you will be having a wonderful experience. It is one thing to think about it, but another to visit it. When you are there, you are going to feel so much power within yourself…I just know it!

And yes, living our laptop lifestyle is a blessing to us!

    Hey Donna,
Happy New Year and Welcome back !
It looks great blogging from the beach

I have not made any great movements since I started business online. I never took time to look back for a better move forward like you did. Thanks for the reminder

I have no much offline to revisit though. A lot has been consulting with local companies. Real online started in 2011 with EasyRetweet. Much has been accomplished since then and I look forward to a better 15 😉

Happy New Year once more and congrats for your successful past projecting you into a more successful future.

      Hi Enstine,

When New Years comes around, we tend to look back at the past year and what we accomplished. On this trip, I looked way back and realized so many things about myself. It boosted my confidence.

Now, every thing is set for 2015….time to roll up my sleeves and get to work!

    Hi Donna,

Happy New Year!! What a great post to start off the new year! Your post made me stop to think about where I was and where I am now and WOW! what a confidence booster!
Getting wrapped up in the day to day sometimes makes you feel like you haven’t accomplished much, but looking back most definitely helps to look forward.

It reminded me of my tough times in 2012 and 2013, making it through those times and feeling rejuvenated in 2014 (finally getting the courage to start my business- yay!) and now excited for 2015.

    Thanks for this motivational post!
Wishing David and you a very happy, healthy and peaceful 2015!

      Hi Monisha,

I am so glad you were inspired by this post. I just had to share my journey because of the feelings I had when I passed by my old stomping grounds.

As for you, I can remember when we first met and you were working corporate. Never in your wildest dreams back then did you ever think you would have your own business.

I can remember our talks and how I was a huge pest pushing you to create your blog he he.

      Now look at you!

Yes, you have come a long way baby!
