4 Productivity Tips For BloggersThese 4 Productivity Tips For Bloggers will keep you sharp and on top of your game.

It’s very important for bloggers to use their time productively.

Anyone can put a lot of time into doing a lot of busy work, spinning their wheels on Facebook and tweeting their brains out while accomplishing very little in terms of growing their blog into a viable business.

You don’t want to waste time.

There’s not enough of it around these days.

Time is an essential, core ingredient for every entrepreneur and blogger to carefully cultivate.

You cannot run your business without managing your time properly and productively.

I’ve run a across many bloggers who thought that their time is worth more than money.

In order to save $10, you could work 5 hours performing manual chores that could be handled through automation.

It may sound crazy, but this is one of the biggest newbie blogger mistakes.

It just adds up to a very poor and unwise use of your time.

Special: Start Your Blog In These 3 Easy Steps

Time needs to be respected or else steer yourself straight into overwhelm and confusion.

There is way too much distraction to be ignored, and way too many things that need to be done and compete for your interest and attention.

If you can not get these things under control, you will not be able to run a successful business.

To help you with this, here are a few tips to help you manage your time better, and make you a more productive blogger.

4 Productivity Tips For Bloggers

1. Keep Things Simple

When it comes to being productive, simplicity is king.

The tagline on my on my blog reads: “Blogging & Online Marketing… Made Simple.”

Don’t overcomplicate things.

Keep your business simple.

Don’t create a complicated process that requires you to jump through a million hoops to build an email list, to find affiliate products, to interact with people on social media sites or anything else.

Whenever you find yourself deeply embedded inside of a complicated solution to your problems, stop and reassess.

I promise you there IS a simpler way to do it.

There always is.

Make it your goal to keep your blogging and online marketing business as simple as possible.

Simple does not mean “beginner” or “amateur.”

It means simple in structure, design and application.

Special: Let Me Help You Grow Your Business, 1-on-1

You can have a very complicated business with some very sophisticated strategies and funnels put into place, but if you keep them simple to use and apply, then they are workable.

If you make them complicated, then

  • you’ll probably never do them,
  • they will take you far too much time to do,
  • they’ll probably come across as being too complicated for your readers to try to duplicate.

People don’t like complicated.

They like simple.

Keep your business simple and you will be more productive, and also far more focused.

Keep your business simple and people will be more comfortable doing business with you.

One of the most common things that people tell me when they give me feedback on my blog or in my training courses and coaching, is that I keep things so simple.

They tell me that it while something is a complicated topic or process, they’re so happy to find a simple solution that they can actually put into immediate use.

People want to be able to implement what you teach them.

They don’t want things so complicated that they feel like they’re sitting in a advanced seminar, or that they are just learning theory and possibility, without the opportunity to get their hands dirty.

You need to make things simple, actionable, and workable for people.

When you do that, you will build a strong loyal following.

Whenever you write a blog post, try to focus on one issue, one problem, one strategy.

Special: Start Your Blog In These 3 Easy Steps

Then suggest one plan of action that people can take, or one solution to the problem that you raise, and again, make it a simple action.

When people see a quick, simple thing they can do to improve their lives, or be able to move forward in their business, they will become a serial visitor to your blog, and a key component of your loyal audience.

In order to teach and display this kind of simplicity, you must practice it in your own life and business.

When you do, you will naturally pass that on in your writings, teaching and training.

And you’ll be lead by example, not theory.

When the time comes for you to elaborate on a topic, it is the perfect time to offer a content upgrade that people can obtain to drill more deeply into what you’re teaching them.

This is how you build your list, sell your products, and convert visitors into customers of your products, and clients for your services.

2. Beyond Daily Operations: Limit Social Media Networking

One of the most important aspects of your daily operation is to engage in robust networking activities on your social media sites.

This is how you build trust with people.

As they get to know you on social media sites, they feel comfortable with you, they build a relationship with you, and they are now willing to become subscribers to your list or buyers and clients for your products and services.

You cannot afford to let yourself spin out hours of your day chatting on Facebook and tweeting on Twitter.

Your work day needs to be focused.

Your social media presence is important, even critical to the growth of your blog.

That doesn’t mean you can spend an unlimited amount of time on it, though.

Confine your social media efforts to limited, well defined blocks of time within your daily schedule.

Special: Let Me Help You Grow Your Business, 1-on-1

See how much time you are spending on your favorite social media sites.

And please, limit the number social media sites that you are building networks on.

It’s very unlikely, that you need to be on 12 different social media platforms.

Even the biggest and most successful blogs I know, focus on 2 or 3, sometimes 4 or 5 social media sites… and 4 or 5 is a lot!

If you are a solopreneur, running your blog by yourself, it’s not likely that you can handle more than 3 social media platforms effectively and efficiently.

Go find 1, 2 or 3 platforms that you choose to network on, and give yourself time blocks of maybe 15 minutes in the morning, afternoon, and evening.

That’s a total of 45 minutes a day.

That should be sufficient time to work on all of your social media networking.

If you’re spending more than an hour day on social media, then chances are you are spending very little time on being productive in your business.

3. Beyond Daily Operations:  Move Your Business Forward

In one of my recent coaching calls,  I was telling people to be sure to include one hour of good, high quality productive time in their daily schedule.

By productive time, I mean time when you’re actually producing something that will move your business forward.

You need to have an hour of productivity each and every day to make your blogging business viable.

Productivity includes things like

  • writing your blog posts,
  • creating info products,
  • producing videos,
  • creating coaching programs,
  • hosting webinars
  • writing sales pages,
  • creating squeeze pages, and
  • anything else that can directly lead to the results you seek to attain.

These are the activities that will actually

  • drive traffic to your business,
  • convert new traffic into subscribers,
  • convert repeat traffic into clients and buyers.

Nothing else that you do matters if you are not doing these kinds of productive activities.

Do not try to stack your time and do 6 hours of productivity on Friday afternoon.

People do this because they spent their entire week on social media sites, reading blogs, commenting on blogs, watching videos and other non-productive things.

Special: Start Your Blog In These 3 Easy Steps

Then, at the end of the week, they try to catch up on all their productivity work because they realize that another week with zero results is about to pass.

When you do this, the quality of your productivity will suffer… plus, you will never build a productive momentum in your business.

Be Productive Early In Your Day

I suggest that you make productivity the very first part of your day.

That’s the time when you usually have the most energy, the most focus and the most resolve to complete your tasks.

I never start my day reading emails, checking out social media sites, and building relationships with other bloggers and marketers,

I don’t even look at those things, until I’ve done my own productivity work.

That’s how I know that no matter what else happens in my day, I have been productive.

When you’re done with your 1 hour of productivity time, then you can do anything else that you think will help enhance your business.

Special: Resources To Make You More Productive

Now we’re talking about social media networking, blog commenting, and any other strategy that is built into your business model.

That can be the marketing part of your day.

That’s when you make connections to people, show them what you’ve done, ask them to join your list, ask them to register for your webinar and all that.

By putting the productive part of your day in motion, first and foremost, you will not only free up the rest of your day to do other important activities, but you will free your mind of the burden (and sometimes guilt) of not achieving anything of substance.

Have you ever spent a whole day being busy, only to feel like you accomplished nothing?

If you start your day with 1 hour of laser-focused productivity, you’ll never feel this way.

4. Leisure Time

People don’t generally think of leisure time as part of their productivity strategy.

But it is.

You need to have leisure time, my friend, every single day.

Don’t wait for the weekend.

You need to have something that you do for yourself, that makes you happy.

This can be meditation, prayer, shopping or whatever else it is that makes you happy, and takes your mind away from your business.

You should even schedule this free time into your planner.

Several things will happen when you do this.

Special: Start Your Blog In These 3 Easy Steps

First of all, you will be greatly incentivized to get the productivity part of your day completed.

You won’t want to drag out your day on tedious chores and tasks, when you know that you have leisure time to look forward to.

In this way your leisure time becomes your reward.

It’s your reward for doing a good job… for completing all the most important activities you had lined up in your day.

More than a reward, though, it’s also the “renewal” part of your day.

Consider This…

You’ve just completed an hour of intense, productive time.

Then you spent an hour engaged in blogging activities, and maybe an additional 30 minutes networking on social media.

Next, you send out your daily email to your subscriber list.

You just spent half your day working.

If you continue on at this point, you will probably have a much lower level of energy, your focus will not be as sharp, and any work you produce will not be as good as it could be.

If you take time now to do some personal and leisurely things, you will enhance your health, renew your energy, and refresh your mind.

All of these things will actually make you more productive when you re-engage later in your business.

One of the funny things I’ve always found out about taking this leisure time, is that even without trying, my mind comes up with great ideas for business while I’m out shopping or raking the lawn.

Try it yourself.

Special: Resources To Make You More Productive

I think you’ll have a similar experience.

It’s because you’ve relaxed your mind.

You told it that you’re off work and it’s okay.

It’s in this relaxed state that subconscious ideas can rise to the surface.

Often, these subconscious ideas, creativity and inspirations are far superior to anything you can think of hunched over your computer, tired and worn out from a hard day of work already.

My husband and I take walks on the beach in practically every type of weather.

We look at the water, say very little to one another and just relax our minds and enjoy the serenity and calm of the moment.

Typically, on the way home,  we enter into an impromptu mastermind session.

We start blabbing about all the ideas we had while we were walking.

It’s like an unscheduled brainstorming that just happens.

We weren’t  working, we were just relaxing.

But somehow, our minds were on the job in much the same way that they often are while we are sleeping and dreaming.

How many times have you woken up from a dream with all kinds of ideas that you never even thought of during the day when you were trying so hard to get ideas?

    Hi Donna

These productivity tips are just golden and I like the idea of having leisure. Sometimes , bloggers make their work flow so complex that it overwhelms them and affects their productivity.

As you brilliantly shared, Keeping it simple makes a lot of sense and pays off in the long run. Also relaxing everyday is a good idea too. Thanks for sharing. Take Care

    Hi Donna,

Everyone business is there to boost their productivity as this is what makes them successful and grow their income. Same happen in case of blogging.

Blogging is a process of continuously improving productivity.

You have real nicely shared all these 4 tips. Time management is really helpful to stay stress free and manage everything as planned.

Keeping things simple is also a great idea as simple things are easily understandable and when a person or user easily understand what a blogger is saying, he will come again and again to learn new things.

Thanks for writing and sharing about this. Keep sharing more.

      Hi Gaurav,

Keeping It Simple! When we blog like that people do come over time and time again. We don’t want to take too much of our reader’s time….time is precious for us as well as them. Knowing that, we can get a clear message across so someone who reads it can put it into action.

Time management….that is so important when running a business especially as an entrepreneur. We have to do just about everything ourselves. Sure we can give others some work, and we can also use automation. But time for ourselves is the most precious gift we can ever give ourselves.

    Hello Donna,

First of all, sorry for coming later as I was on long holiday i.e. nearly a month! Now, I am back, and saw you published a couple of posts meanwhile.

Coming back the post, productivity is something everyone talks but I see, most of our blogger buddies spend a lot of time on social media for networking, and to be exact many of them spend a lot of time in chatting just random stuff which are not going to add any value to their business.

So, I would say networking is important but we need to limit it in order to focus more on result oriented work.

I loved your first point which is keep it simple. I love it because we feel more connected to works that are straight and simple. No one likes to work on twisted stuff.

Thanks for such awesome post, Donna.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend already.

      Hi Atish,

Welcome back…wow a month away could be a good thing.

So true, I see people talk about productivity but wait for the action upon it lol. As networking on social media is important, it is a very small part of our time. We can check in twice a day for 10 minutes each and it is all done.

I like to use post planner for social media. On Sunday’s it is my relaxing day and I like to spend time creating some social posts for the week. It is something creative that I do enjoy doing. They go out on time and all I have to do is “check in.”

We have to reach people on so many different levels with our business that we have to mix it up a bit when on social media.

And yes, keeping things simple is the best thing we can do. Who has time to read a long article?

      Thanks!

Thank you for great tips on staying productive. You are right about how easy it is to be spinning around the circle wit no head way. It is always great to have a strategic plan to follow. Yes leisure time is just as important as being organized with the daily routine.

    Hi Donna,

Thanks for a gentle, well-deserved nudge.

Somehow I can’t seem to manage “simple” because I always seem to be juggling too many things at once!

However, I’m working on scheduling in “me” time to give me a bit of a break, because things have rather built up.

I’m also cutting out some of the clutter to free up time to concentrate on important things rather than “busy, busy”.

    Hi Donna,
I have once been distracted with social networks and I must say my productivity was low then because I spend more time chatting than working and studying new things. Though I later try to dumb social network but I noticed they have their own importance as well so I have to make a schedule to reach my goals.
As you have pointed out, leisure time is very important because all work and no play will just make a person dull. We need to build some interesting and happy moments in life. I mostly spend my leisure time watching movies and hanging out with friends.
Thanks for Sharing the informative article.
    Warm Regards,

      Hi Hadharm,

The only way to be on social media is to make a schedule. It is the number one time eater!

So true…no play will make a person dull. We need our leisure time no matter how we want to spend it.

Sometimes after spending many hours working…with breaks of course…I find binge-watching a TV show relaxing..but I even have to put a timer on that. I can get carried away lol.

The productivity tips are the most compelling thing in the early days of any blogger. I too faced this problem in my early days, but now I have managed myself to work on it. Time management is a great thing I followed in my hard days. As a blogger our mind must be free then only we can think better. So to make my mind fresh. I will spend my time with family and friends. It makes me feel fresher and think better. After relaxing my productivity operations will get increased. All your tips are accepted and needed to follow by every blogger

    Hi Donna,
Productivity is one of my favorite subjects – I think I waste too much time figuring out how to be more productive. 😉

Seriously, your point about leisure time is something that I am trying to get better at. It is hard to put things away when you work from home.

Lately, I’ve actually been trying to multitask some leisure time by reading blogging ebooks and courses while walking on the treadmill. And it’s working!

I actually look forward to that exercise – although I should probably be walking a little faster than I do.

    It’s progress though.

Thanks, Donna. These tips make all the sense in the world. Yes, i have days where I’ve been busy but not necessarily productive. That’s really frustrating. It’s definitely important to incorporate leisure into our days. I love yoga and going for a long walk or run to clear my mind. Social media really is a time suck. Visiting blogs is a passion for me. I just love connecting with other bloggers so I don’t mind spending time reading other’s work. Hopefully, this comes back when they recommend me to a friend etc. Thanks again, for an inspiring post Donna!

    Hi Donna,

    Simple wins!

As for leisure time, folks wanna known how I inject my stories and humor into posts. Answer: I watch Netflix every day. I read authors like Lee Child and James Patterson regularly. I exercise. I travel. I veg. I meditate. Taking PLENTY of time off from blogging lightens me up, makes me more creative and playful. I realize that being is more productive than doing because the action that flows out of being is infinitely more powerful than running around like mad trying to get stuff done.

And yep, I only started to be more in the moment online when I spent hours daily offline, enjoying life outside of blogging too. Hell just look at my Netflix queue LOL.

    Hi Donna,

    All excellent tips.
I prefer to keep things simple. Anything too complicated gives me a headache and I eventually back off of whatever it is I’m working on.

I also agree about the leisure time being part of your productivity. We aren’t machines. It’s good to take a step back and breathe. Finding something relaxing and enjoyable to do, even if it’s for a short while allows us to enjoy our day instead of feeling like we’re just working.

    I hope you’re having a good week 🙂

    Hey Donna Mam,

Informative and helpful as usual. I loved the point where you added Leisure time in the list, indeed this can boost productivity (it works for me at least), behind my working table I have got a bed few feet away, sometimes it takes really very long to write an article, especially in my niche where a lot of research is required, so whenever I get tired of seeing the laptop screen for so long I just get up from my chair, lie down in the bed, put on the headphones and start throwing a tennis ball on the wall, it relaxes my mind and I start working after 10-15 minutes. The delay of 10-15 minutes actually save a lot of my time and I end up researching and writing better.

And, I just started using a new content builder, editing with that content builder slows down my speed but the end result is visually appealing which is more important for visitors.

Once again, loved reading this article about productivity.

      Hi Karan,

I love the picture you painted about your leisure time. I can just imagine you taking your break with headphones on bouncing that tennis ball on the wall lol.

I too have a bed in my office. A futon that is like a couch. I often take a break, close my eyes and listen to the outside noises.

I also have a small punching bag in the room. If I need to move around I do a little dance keeping that punching ball steady.

      It works!

    Hey Donna,

Bloggers who get new ideas don’t just get them because they’re lucky but because they are experienced. Ideas and news have surrounded us left and right and these bloggers just know how to connect different dots to make a completely new ideas.

Knowing specifically what you’re trying to achieve with your daily or weekly blog will allow us to focus on what’s crucial while not getting bogged down with distractions and non-essentials.

Thanks to the ceaseless wonders of the internet, there’s an infinite amount of entertaining distractions that can waste time whenever we sit down to write. So tunnel-vision is critical if we want to make the most out of our writing sessions. Eventually, thanks for reveling a light on this topic.

Starting first thing in the morning when you have energy makes sense to do your productivity work. I read eat your frog first. Do the biggest thing you don’t want to do -first. Then it’s done.

However I still have the day job so don’t have my mornings free except for a few days a week. I really love my days off! Keeping things simple, and focused, confining your social media to blocks of time on your calandar. I have to do this to keep track with a printed weekly calendar that I keep notes on. I have a large stack of these in a pink box at my feet.

I liked the productivity operations that you listed that drive traffic to your business and convert into clients and buyers. Doing your social networking, blog commenting etc after that!!. When possible, depending on the time available.

Great info tips for bloggers. Wonderful productivity tips. I will be sharing this on a facebook page.

      Hi Kathryn,

I was eating frogs for years lol…..it does become a habit. However, if you have to work a few days a week, eat it whenever you can on those days.

You are very organized because you do get so much done…I see it all the time!

I have driving clients into buyers on the top of my list. That is where I mostly concentrate. I love social media but learned how to keep my hands off he keys and only do it when I have free time.

      Thank you so much,

    Hi, Donna

All 4 tips are good reminder for us to increase our productivity.

I am guilty as one of the persons who do not know how to handle the time in social media well. 15 mins, 3 times in a day is good schedule for SM.

I love your suggestion: to do the productivity early in the morning for 1 hour so that we can get closer to our desire.

I agree with you, many good ideas come during we are enjoying or relaxing ourselves or doing other activities in every situation.

    Thanks for sharing the tips.

      Hi Stella,

When I started to do this myself….working in the beginning of the day on the most productive things to move my business forward, it started moving.

Now that I’m used to it, it’s a breeze. It does take time to get used to and I have to admit, some days it just doesn’t work out that way. Life has a way of doctor’s appointments, and things like that too be at the first of the day lol.

Indeed, the best ideas do come from our leisure time.

    Hey Donna,

You’ve nailed it for sure! Productivity is something we all strive to maximize everyday. But simple, working strategies and having systems in place will help one easily achieve the expected results.

As you said, wasting time the whole week and trying to catch up on Friday afternoon is silly. Not only does it add stress, but that will certainly affect the quality of work!

And, personally I take leisure quite seriously. While I work, I mostly do it in Pomodoros. So I have enough breaks. And I also do have well-defined working hours so I get to spend time with family and also have personal quality time to reflect on things and stay calm 🙂

    Thanks for sharing!

    Cheers,
    Jane.

      Hi Jane,

Indeed, if we work hodge podge and then try to catch up at the end of the week, it will reflect on the quality of our work. Keeping things simple is the way I like to go. From my own work to helping others.

Good to know you are using Pomodoros. I was using them way back and now it became part of my internal clock. lol. Having your well defined working hours to spend time with your family is priceless.

And leisure time is self care…something so many entrepreneurs forget to do, then get overwhelmed. That is one road never to go down.

    Hey Donna how are you?

Excellent post and here’s the thing, I would love it if there could be 37 hours in a day. Why 37? I don’t know lol.

You’re right, time is more valuable than money because it’s limited and you can never make that time back.

In an attempt to optimise my work time better as a work-from-home dad, I made some harsh decisions in my business recently.

One of which was to delete my main Facebook business page with 10k fans. it just wasn’t working for me, and more over, I was spending way too much time and money on the page every week.

So I removed it from my business equation.

I love your take on simplicity. And yes you’re absolutely right, if we can make things simple in our lives in general, that will rub off on anything else we do, including in our business.

I hate making difficult decisions personally, so I keep everything simple, though I need to focus more on doing just that, and helping my clients make simpler decisions as well, by giving them less options lol.

    From a blogger and marketer standpoint, eventually I would like to focus on just a few things for each areas of my business. For instance;

    One website.
A few marketing strategies that are really working.
A few tools that are effective in my business.
A few platforms that are working in helping me promote my business and helping me engage and connect with others.

We as bloggers and solopreneurs can get so bogged down with so much stuff, and look at the choice and options we have these days, it’s hard to not get drawn into the next new or big thing, especially online.

Great post Donna, sorry for waffling on, I could write more but I think I’ll stop lol.

Have a great rest of the week.

      Hi Fabrizio,

      Doing Fine!

Indeed, time is more valuable than money….you can’t make up lost time. Those decisions you have made as a stay at home dad are wise ones. We have to cull out what is not working for us and go what is.

There was a time when I was off of Twitter, now since my return, it is bringing me a good return – pardon the pun-

We can get bogged down with so much stuff as an entrepreneur, that we can lose sight of what is really important. So keeping things simple as possible will surely work.

Doing at least one hour a day of pushing your business forward…having a plan to do so will make a world of difference.

      Nice to see you again,

Oh yeah, time … the great equalizer! I really like all your tips Donna, especially keeping things simple. An interesting exercise someone once suggested to me to test our systems is to write them down as though we’re going to give them to someone to handle in our absence. So for example, write down each step of the journey a reader must go through to get from point A to where ever in the alphabet you want the journey to take them. Enlightening. 🙂

I’ve always struggled with leisure time. In part, because I just really enjoy what I’m doing so it doesn’t feel like work, but I had also grown bored with my environment. Moving was the best thing I’ve done in a long time and I find my life has subtly begun shifting back into a more balanced place and it feels great.

      Hi Marquita,

Maybe I’m the great equalizer because I’m a Libra? lol

I do find that writing things down does alleviate our mind from distractions.

When it comes to leisure time, I do know what you mean. I love what I do too, but know darn well to pull myself away almost every day. And then one day a week. When I do this, I do come back with fresh ideas.

I am so glad to hear that your move shifted you back into that balance place.

I love so much about this post that I do not even know what part to concentrate on. For this reason I shall start with one that most bloggers writing this type of post fail to mention…FREE time. It is so important that we take this time for self care. There are, of course, a myriad of reasons as to why that is important. Included in this is that with a break we come back with a fresher outlook and more energy.

I love and totally agree with your four excellent blogging tips Donna!

And unfortunately, far too many aspiring online marketers, seem to let an
eternity slip through their fingers every week, camped out on FB!

And somehow, far too many of them also seem to think
constantly checking their email accounts several times per day, counts as
    being productive as well!LOL!

Thanks for helping them to appreciate, such is definitely not the case!

    Hi Donna,
    This post is quite informative.
Being productive early in your day is compelling. You don’t have to start your day with social chat and reading mails.
Since you brain is still less filled up with thoughts, you can make something at such an early hour.
Time management means not leaving the do for the don’t.
Thanks for sharing such an informative post.
    More From You.
