Blogging Success Mindset | You Can Do It When You Believe It

Blogging Success MindsetDo you have a Blogging Success Mindset?

Or do you find it a difficult, uphill struggle to reach the success you’ve always dreamed about?

All bloggers have to work through adversity to build a successful business.

But not all of them know how.

I know that many of my readers, students and clients struggle to put all the pieces together.

You see, over the years I’ve taught many people how to blog and how to run an online business.

I’ve taught many techniques and many methods.

Many of these are captured in my courses and trainings.

Others are in ebooks and video tutorials.

But more and more, I’ve been getting away from teaching people how to run a successful blog.

Instead, I’ve been showing them how to develop a blogging success mindset.

Until you develop the right mindset, all the techniques, tactics and strategies in the world are not going to take you where you want to go.

You may be doing all the right things, but with the wrong mindset.

Blogging Success Mindset

First things first.

Successful people always begin a venture fully believing it will succeed.

It may or it may not, but if your mind is focused properly, success is just a matter of mechanics.

Successful bloggers need to develop a blogging success mindset.

Otherwise nothing else is going to matter.

So, let’s talk about your blogging success.

Can you actually do it?

Yes, you can.

But remember, all the “how to” and “proven techniques” in the world mean little if you don’t operate from the right mindset.

What is the right mindset?

One that is confident and assured.

One that knows (even if you don’t) that yes, you can do it.

But before you gain that confidence, you might need to adjust some things in your thinking.

Retrain Your Brain – You Can Do It

Okay, so here’s the thing.

You might think that it’s all great and well to think positively.

Perhaps telling yourself “you can do it” is a good affirmation.

But is that all there is to it?

Well, no.

It’s not.

Special: FREE Guide… 4 Things I Did To Build My Blog Using Only Free Traffic

You need to actually retrain your brain to BELIEVE that you can do it.

Just telling yourself you can, is not good enough.

You have to believe it.

You have to get beyond some of the common limitations that people often put on themselves.

When you do, everything changes.

But first, let’s see how to get past those limitations.

Is This You? “I never succeed at anything”

If you’ve tried to succeed at things other than blogging, and failed… then you’re likely to believe your blogging efforts are doomed from the outset.

But understand this.

It’s not that you never succeeded at anything, it’s just that you feel like you do.

And because you feel like you do… you tell yourself, not that you have had failures in the past, but that YOU are a failure.

That’s a big limitation, and it’s very difficult to overcome.

When you tell yourself that you are “a failure,” you are programming yourself to fail.

You don’t even give yourself a chance to succeed.

If you’ve been blogging for a while and have not had good results for your effort, you may feel this way.

What you need to understand, though, is this.

Just because you have had past failures, it doesn’t mean that today won’t be the beginning of your success.

Your past failures do not doom you to perpetual failure.

As difficult as it may seem, your job is to focus on today.

Special: FREE Guide… 4 Things I Did To Build My Blog Using Only Free Traffic

And if you’re really honest with yourself, you will sit down right now and make a list of all the things you have been successful with.

Maybe you haven’t had the results you want, but I’m sure there is a list of things you have accomplished.

For instance, your blog might not be profitable right now.

But maybe you’ve learned how to do videos or write good emails.

Write down all those smaller accomplishments.

They are the stepping stones to your success.

Yes, you can do it.

Or This? “I’m not good enough”

If you really believe you’re not good enough, then you do not have a blogging success mindset.

What you have is a self-fulfilling prophecy that you will fail because you must.

And you believe you must because you are convinced that you simply are not good enough to be successful.

In order to start turning this thinking around, I want you to start telling yourself this…

Yes, you are good enough.

I want you to also start rewarding yourself for any accomplishments that you have had.

I don’t care how small they are.

  • Every time something works, even a little bit…
  • Every time you learn something new…
  • Every time you implement something in your blogging business that you couldn’t do before…
  • Every time you succeed in little ways like these, stop and give yourself a tiny reward.

Maybe a cup of coffee.

Perhaps a walk in the park.

Special: FREE Guide… 4 Things I Did To Build My Blog Using Only Free Traffic

Maybe you just write yourself a quick note telling yourself what a great job you’ve done.

These are all tiny little rewards that can get you to start believing in your ability to succeed.

Why wouldn’t you believe?

After all, look at all the things you’ve rewarded yourself for.

This steady drip of rewards for jobs well done are essential to building your blogging success mindset.

Maybe This? “My friends and family think I’m a failure”

It is difficult to become a success at anything if you surround yourself with people who don’t believe in you.

If people in your life don’t respect you for what you are doing, then you need to find a way to share your accomplishments (and setbacks) with people who do.

You need to have people that can understand how your failures are stepping stones to your success.

They can help you figure out how to improve and grow.

Instead of having people tell you

  • that you’re just not good enough and
  • that you’ll never make it and
  • that you’ve never been good enough…

Instead of that, surround yourself with people who are supportive of your efforts.

Forget About All That… Don’t worry about your accomplishments

Success today does not derive from your accomplishments of yesterday.

Your efforts alone are enough.

So just stay true to the process you’ve committed to.

Even in the face of doubters.

I know this is the hardest thing to do if your close friends, family and loved ones are the people who are convinced that you are a failure.

But you cannot control other people’s perception.

You cannot convince anybody of anything.

Don’t even try.

Just stay focused on the process of your growth.

If you don’t know what your process should be, I can help you out with that…

top tier coaching

Just remember, you cannot convince anybody except yourself that you are capable of success.

So focus on convincing yourself.

Only yourself.

Nobody else.

This is the blogging success mindset that will take you beyond your failure.

I Hear This One A Lot! “I just can’t catch a break”

You don’t need a “break.”

You don’t need “good luck.”

You don’t need a lucky charm, rabbit’s foot or horseshoe hanging over your doorway.

In fact, you have already outlined things you’ve succeeded at, right?

You just need to keep building on that.

You need to keep growing your success to the point that you can leverage it into great results.

Again, this is what I do as blogging consultant.

I help people figure out how to leverage their small successes into great big ones.

You can work with me on this, or you can find another coach, or do it yourself.

But whatever you do, you must stop trying to “catch a break.”

Special: FREE Guide… 4 Things I Did To Build My Blog Using Only Free Traffic

Don’t look for some “secret sauce.”

Forget about a push-button system or “miracle” software.

You already have what it takes to succeed in your blogging business.

You just need to unleash it.

The Blogger Success Mindset

So here is how you can unleash your success mindset.

Connect with people.

Make sure they know who you are and what you do.

In other words, market yourself.

When you do this, you will start to believe in yourself because others will start to believe in you.

Become a winner

Don’t dwell on defeats.

Focus on your wins.

Make a list of everything that you’ve accomplished.

That doesn’t have to mean profits or any specific goals.

Special: FREE Guide… 4 Things I Did To Build My Blog Using Only Free Traffic

Just list everything that you have learned to do, or that you have implemented.

These are wins.

They may not be big wins.

But when you get used to having little wins each day, you start training yourself to think of yourself as a winner.

This can often be a big shift toward developing your blogging success mindset.

Take stock of your talents

We often hear that you need to address your weaknesses.

But part of developing a winning mindset is to run with your strengths.

People always do better at things that they’re good at.

So take stock of your talents.

List all your strengths and abilities.

Then figure out ways to integrate those into your business model.

That will help you stay on the winning side.

Develop gratitude for all the things you have

Be a winner, not a whiner.

Don’t focus on the things that you don’t have.

Stop fretting about the goals you have not achieved, or the results that are less than what you expected.

Forget about the failures of your past.

Be grateful everyday for the things you do have, right now.

To do this, list them.

It’s a great exercise to wake up every morning and add at least one thing to your gratitude list.

You’ll be amazed how long it will get.

More importantly, you will start to really appreciate yourself.

That’s when you truly develop the attitude of gratitude that is so foundational to the blogging success mindset.

Achieve one goal every day

Make sure that you are reaching at least one goal every single day.

In fact, make sure you reach that one goal before you do anything else.

In order to make this achievable, you need to set goals that are realistic.

Special: FREE Guide… 4 Things I Did To Build My Blog Using Only Free Traffic

And they need to be small enough that you can get them done in one sitting.

Every day should begin with tackling a goal that you can accomplish in an hour or two.

Start your day by completing that.

When you accomplish just one little goal each day, you are on the way to achieving your Big Goal.

So if, for instance, you have an email list of 100 people, your next milestone goal might be to grow that list to 1,000.

But you can’t do that today.

So while you’re working a bigger strategy, make sure you write an email to the 100 people on your list today.

That’s a goal you can and should attain.

So do it.

After you do, get back to your bigger strategy.

This keeps you in the habit of accomplishing things instead of just dreaming about it.

It also keeps you in the habit of being successful.

This will go a long way to helping you achieve the results you really want.

Blogging Success Mindset | You Can Do It When You Believe It

The standard adage is that seeing is believing.

It is also true that believing is seeing.

Either way, you need to see what your blogging success looks like.

That will train your brain to actually believe in your inevitable success.

It’s just a matter of time.

Believe it.

Because no matter what anybody tells you…

You Can Do It When You Believe It.

Rehearse your future success

Success doesn’t just happen because you want it, though.

You must take time every day to clearly  focus on your success.

The only way it will happen is if you can see it happening.

Call this visualization or mapping or whatever you like.

It is a rehearsal for the main show.

Several times a day you need to carve out 5 to 10 minute “breaks” from your routine.

Use this time to sit quietly and “watch” or visualize yourself being a successful blogger.

Visualize the growth of your daily traffic.

Special: FREE Guide… 4 Things I Did To Build My Blog Using Only Free Traffic

Watch your email list grow by leaps and bounds.

See lots of your subscribers and readers converting every day into buyers and clients.

Have a clear vision of what this looks like.

And replay it in your mind over and over and over.

How does it feel that successful blogger?

And how does it improve your life?

Acknowledge that you are the person of your vision.

This will set you on the right track leading to your success.

Then, when you actually get to implementing things in your business, each thing you do will fall in line with your success visualization.

Now you have attained the ultimate blogger success mindset.

The more you practice it the easier it becomes.

    Hello Donna,

You have created such a great article and I think this is related to all of us. When we get success our mind also is on a positive track but when we face some failure we are going on negative track. To keep positive in a failure time is one of the most challenging tasks and really for that, we need mindset.

Your this article really very helpful for all the bloggers and also who are thinking negative. Thank you so much for sharing this great article with us.

      Hi Rupesh,

Oh so true “to keep positive in a failure time is one of the most challenging tasks to do” – We need a strong mindset in order to push through whatever life throws at us. We can never let things get us down. Well…for a few minutes then turn it around.

Mindset plays an important part of everything. With the correct (or incorrect) mindset, you can achieve a lot of things.

Belief + action = success in my opinion.

    Hi Donna,

I hope you are super doper good! 🙂

Success is in the head. The reality of success is the the ability to consciously practice till it becomes real.

Growth is a gradual process though. Blogging can be frustrating; that time you feel stuck and like there’s nothing more to write. You flip through the map of your head and can’t find any path to walk through – you can relate to this.

You put it right: all bloggers have to work through adversity to build a successful business. That’s true. I can’t agree less to THIS.

Blogging, while handled as a business can be scary and disturbing. However, it is on us to build our blogging capacities to be able to multiply opportunities every time, everyday.

This blogging success mindset guide is a smart one to allow bloggers who has lost hope to regain back the strength to blog, staying consistent. For steady bloggers, an encouraging piece to continue doing greater works.

More of this I want. Thank you: )

      You got it Prince,

Success is all in our head! One person may need a small amount of money to feel successful, others won’t rest until they reach a high goal. It is all relative.

At first blogging as a business can be a scary thing, but we have to align our mindset and visualize monetization coming in a two way street. We are helping others and they are paying us for our services whatever they may be.

It provides value. If it is all free, the person won’t value it.

OK I’ll give more of this kind of blog!

When I first started blogging I went for Googles Blogger to create. We didn’t have all the blogging socials we had WordPress, WordPress.com and a few other blogging platforms, but at the time blogger seemed the easiest to start with. But I found out a year later that Blogger didn’t like affiliate business opportunities and I was shut down over night. Lost a year’s work. That could have been the end of my blogging. But instead, I decided that if I wanted to continue I have to invest not only my time but also some money paying for hosting, buying a domain, basically putting myself in charge so that it couldn’t all be taken away from me again. And that is what I did. The money is not the investment it is the time learning how to use WordPress that is the investment. All the how to set it up hours, all the trial and error, all the looking at what you create and going to bed knowing it doesn’t look quite right and then hitting it again the moment you wake up. None of this is doable unless you have an I want to do this and I can do this attitude. And you can’t do it fast cause you’re going to get taken down the wrong roads. People will try to convince you that you need to pay for SEO, if you have a budget cool, if money is tight then it’s a very dangerous thing to pay for. Because an expert will get you to a stage the problem being you need to constantly pay to stay at the stage because SEO changes and when it changes if you don’t then have the expert still you’re gonna fall like a stone. Your gonna buy programs to help you, these can really help or again they can be good, to begin with, but then become very quickly out of date. So what im saying is there are a ton of challenges to overcome and paying to overcome them is and at the same time is not the answer. Should this scare you off? no, if it does then you don’t have the mindset.

      Hi Dexter,

Thanks for that share. There is nothing better than sharing your story to help others. Wow…you sure did go through some hoops! I have seen those who tell us we must pay for SEO, and all that. Then it gets outdated. The thing is, we have to “pick our poison” so to speak.

For me, I wasn’t at all passionate about setting up my blog and doing all that techie stuff. So much so that I have a managed host that tells me immediately if things need to be changed or not. It is worth it for me.

I rather be producing products, writing, and getting on social media to market.

Should your story scare me off? Na…. We all jumped through our own hoops but when we persist, we know it is all part of business.

The best post I read today!!

    It’s the belief + action.

Some bloggers (like myself) are out there who believe but do not act accordingly.

They are less focused and still have a fear of the failure or no to less in return.

And your selection of words is the eye-opener for many, including myself.

Truthfully I’m not sure I have a blogging success mindset. I mean, I have written over 5,000 blog posts over lots of different blogs over a lot of years, including obviously my own. That’s not easy for most people to do, and one could say I was driven and successful in doing that. Yet, over all my years only one of my blogs ever made any money, from advertising, and that pretty much ended almost 4 years ago when I stopped accepting guest posts.

Yet, for some reason I keep on blogging; is that success or stubbornness? More contemplation coming. 😉

You are a wonderful writer. I do believe as a blogger we write for fun and to help others. You nailed it in your blog. But does it make money? Hmmm… that gets into putting a nice carrot in front of reader’s noses and giving something to them to get them on your mailing list. From there the real writing starts. Give ’em more…then if you have your own product and/or services you can let them know. The real relationships start with our emails.

    Hi Donna,
What an inspiring post! Most days I feel like I can do it and that I’m doing some good things. But they are days when you feel no one sees your work and you wonder are you really doing the right thing?
It is those days that I will need to reread this post to remain strong and believe in what I do.
I know over the years I’ve seen many bloggers quit just before they became very successful.
Sometimes many including myself at times spread ourselves out way too thin.
You remind us here to focus on one thing. And to be happy making one goal. It’s best to do one thing at a time, too many of us today I’m multitasking.

    Hi Lesly,

Show me what you think about and I’ll show you what you’re going to get.

The mind is so much more powerful than we sometimes think.

And it’s not just about positive thinking.

It’s about retraining yourself to avoid getting lost in the pits of negative and backward thinking.

I like how you say that you’re not your past.

And of course you’re not your future either.

So you just have to take each moment as it occurs and make the most of it.

Do that and you’ll certainly find whatever it is that you are focused on.

Oh the mind can do so many things to hold you back or spring you forward. I’ve learned recently that you REALLY have to believe in yourself – that is my “Golden Rule” now. Things that helped me get out of a recent period of confusion was creating new stories of my life as it is now. I’m not my past at all and I can create a new future. That’s pretty empowering. But you have to be willing to really do some soul searching to be able to acknowledge, accept, and let go. You pretty much get what you focus on … life is pretty amazing isn’t it. Surrounding yourself with people who are supportivealways helps to point your mind in the right direction ….

    Hi Donna,
Your mindset is important when you’re a blogger if for no other reason than you want to enjoy blogging.
Many bloggers get discouraged and abandon their blogs. Certainly taking a break to regain perspective is better.
I admit I focus too much on the negatives. I focus on the positives too, though. Thanks for the needed reminders.

      Hi Janice,

We all tend to focus on negative self talk far more than we should.

      I know I do.

In fact, I don’t think there are too many people who me don’t.

It’s such an easy trap, and sometimes a convenient excuse or nice little procrastination technique that we do without even thinking.

The key is not to avoid negative thinking altogether, but to not get lost in it.

      Recognize that is counterproductive.

Then move on to getting your brain back on the track it belongs.

      Everything else follows 🙂

      Hi Prosper,

Had to give a chuckle to this comment.

      It’s so true.

A lot of people know what they have to do they just don’t really get around to doing it.

Funny thing about mindset is that often times people think it just means to wish for what you want not to work for it.

Doesn’t happen that way, as you have pointed out here.

    Hi Donna,

So many good mindset tips here I hardly know where to start!

Over and over again you hear the stories of successful people who had a string of failures behind them before they achieved their greatest success – Colonel Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken is just one of many who spring to mind.

It depends on who you compare yourself to – although I hear my Mum saying “Comparisons are odious!” But if I WERE to compare myself to my friends (say) they are amazed to think I can put together a blog / website at all.

I’ve had some very successful business ventures and some far less so. But I have learned from anything that didn’t go quite right and applied those lessons to move forward.

My blog isn’t my primary business, it’s a vehicle for writing about my main business. While I will freely admit that I once hoped I would be a mega-successful blogger, experience has taught me that “It’s not as easy as THEY said it would be”, when I handed over that $xx dollars for a how-to course. You, Ryan and others too numerous to name have shown that it IS possible – but it’s no easy route to riches.

After almost a year with my changed direction I’m feeling very positive about it, and about using my blog to move it forward.

      Hi Joy,

Seems like you’re heading in the right direction.

Don’t obsess with what other people are doing.

Just stay on your own path.

Stay true to yourself and everything will work out the way it needs to for you.

I’m glad you mentioned that your blog is not primarily about blogging but is about promoting your business.

Some people think that every blogger is trying to get top ranking in the blogosphere.

      Not so.

Many folks are just using their blog to advance their business.

There are so many things that blogging is good for and that’s just another one of them.

    Wow! Wow!! Wow!!!

This is a another mighty post from you again.

Like you’ve always taught, I’m also a big fan of thinking big. I don’t see obstacles, especially when it comes to blogging.

My journey so far into the world of blogging and the little success and recommendations I have recorded here and there are great proofs to me that blogging can make me rich or at least lead me to abundant wealth if I don’t give up.

There were times I was asked to give up and go get a job but I held on. Growth starts from the mind and that’s true.

Thanks for being real to this as usual.

    Cheers.

      Hi Emenike,

People quit all the time on their dreams.

As you suggested here though, if your way forward is crystal clear in your mind first, then you’re much less likely to quit later.

That’s because you know what has to get done and you know that you can do it.

When obstacles arise, you know that they’re just part of the game.

Nobody walks down a road without expecting to find a rock.

Just side-step it and keep going along your way.

Quitting should never be an option.

    Hey Donna,

You totally nailed it with this article. I could totally relate to every quote that is present in this article. This is a very motivational post. Today, most people think they could not do it, before even trying. This is where their mindset needs to be changed, success always comes from making smart decisions at the right time not just by work hard all day.

Thanks for sharing this great article.
    Cheers.

      Hi Jitendra,

You certainly hit some key points here.

It’s not just about hard work.

It’s about knowing what to do and just getting it done.

But before you can do that, you need to have it all mapped out in your mind.

That way you know where you are heading before you take even one step along the path.

When you know where you’re going, you’re going to get there.

When you just start walking without any clear direction, you’re almost certainly going to get lost.

Hi Donna. You are spot on here. Everything you achieve, you achieve first in your mind before you achieve it in the “real” world.

There is one thing I would add. To make it easier to create a successful mindset you need to clean the negativity out of your environment and replace it with positivity. You mentioned the people around you. The same goes for the programming you receive – the news, the shows you watch, the books you read, the music you listen to.

If you watch TV, only watch shows that empower you. When you’re on Facebook only read, like and share positive messages. And most important of all, get that 7-letter f-word (you used it a few times in your post) out of your vocabulary. You only want to focus on its opposite – success.

      Hi Ben,

      That’s a good suggestion.

In order to clear your mind you really need to have a clear environment.

Hard to work in a mess for instance.

I know some people do but I can’t.

I need to have everything nice and clean and orderly.

Then my mind works the same way.

      I’m definitely a minimalist.

And isn’t it funny that in order to do have a great blogging business, you really need to focus on just a very few things.

The biggest problem I see is people trying to do too much.

So clean up your environment and get rid of all the unnecessary clutter.

At the same time clear up your mind and get rid of all the unnecessary stuff that’s just going to lead you to overwhelm and frustration.

    Hi Donna,

    Amen across the board!

I find myself in a similar boat; delving heavily into the mindset aspect of blogging. All of my courses have a heavy emphasis on mindset. I dig deep into the mindset and energy aspect of blogging. Heck; the first 2 fundamentals of my flagship blogging course are devoted specifically to maintaining presence of mind.

This is incredibly important because I found myself nodding at each point you made up top, as far as the limiting beliefs. I have been there. I believed all the BS that I was never good enough, or that I never succeeded with anything. Tough for my newer followers to believe but when I began blogging nearly a decade ago my mind was littered with lies I had picked up along the way. But by purging the lies I was left with the truth; we really can achieve anything we get clear on and put our mind to. Fabulous post and an inspired message here.

      Hi Ryan,

Well yeah you do get caught up in all the things that you’ve been told about blogging when you first start out.

You really have no other frame of reference.

But in time you come to learn that there’s only one thing you can rely on and that is yourself.

Once you have your head on straight so to speak the rest is just mechanics.

Blogging is simply about connecting with people and giving them great value.

Once you complicate things more than that you tend to get in over your head and that’s when the “I can’t” begins.

    Hi Donna,

Yes, you’re absolutely right about all that you’ve written. 🙂

Success does depend on your mindset.Whether it be business or blogging, your beliefs define your path. The more coherent, directed, focused, and powerful your thoughts are, the more likely you’re going to achieve. Whatever you’ve written about the blogging mindset is so true. A winning attitude, fair assessment of your strengths, and packed with a power plan, success is just a matter of time. This is truly a great motivational post for all bloggers.

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

      Hi Harleena,

I think you pretty much end up with whatever you focus on.

When you focus on success and growth that’s usually what you end up with.

When you focus on a lot of negativities and I can’t do this and I can’t do that then you end up with failures.

It really gets down to what you’re tell yourself, what you truly believe, and how you act on your beliefs.

      Hi Praveen,

This is good advice for newbies, I agree.

But in coaching so many bloggers, I have come to realize that even very experienced and even successful bloggers get caught up with these negative downspins.

It can have a devastating effect on your outcomes.

So get it right as a beginner and keep checking yourself every step of the way.

Keep training and re-training that brain to success 🙂

    Hello Donna,

    Awesome tips over here 🙂

Its good to move forward with a positive mindset, so that we can achieve the success.

One is never going to get what they wish for, if they are moving forward with a negative mind set.

At the starting, I was just working and working and results where not so good. I was like, am i not good!

The negative thoughts were coming out of my minds. It was hard to come up from that, my money were gonna out, not much
    earnings from my blogs.

Then I started from the very fresh, connecting to people, start to know my audience, what they were actually looking for.
Slowly and gradually things were on track.

    Thanks for the share.

      Hi Shatanu,

You certainly put yourself on the right track.

It all begins with trying to figure out what your audience wants.

Most people start out like you did.

You dream about what you want.

That’s just not the point and it’s not what will get you success as a blogger.

Glad you got it straight my friend.
