Proven Step by Step Systems for Bloggers Suck

Proven Step by Step Systems for Bloggers SuckProven Step By Step Systems For Bloggers Suck because they can’t be duplicated.

They really can’t.

Oh, I know… the folks who create those step by step systems swear that anybody can duplicate them.

“Even a total newbie.”

Are they liars?

Maybe these are just online scams, you know, the ones everybody always talks about?

Special: FREE Guide… 4 Things I Did To Build My Blog Using Only Free Traffic

Hey, hold on a minute.

Let’s understand a few things about Scams, Systems and Stuff that Sucks.

Scams

Sure, there are a lot of people who devise some kind of step by step system without having any idea if it will work.

It might look something like this.

Title:

“My Amazing 7-Step System For Bloggers”

Outline:

  • Choose a winning niche
  • Buy a domain name
  • Get a good web host for your domain
  • Optimize your blog to get email subscribers
  • Publish great content on your blog
  • Market your content to your target audience
  • Convert your email subscribers into buyers

Here’s the good part about this.

This system has been proven to work.

Great results are possible if you just follow the system, step by step.

Here’s the not so good part.

The people who got great rests with this system may really know their stuff.

But… they may have lots of things in their business already up and running smoothly.

You might not have all those things working for you, though.

Maybe they have a huge email list.

They might have a Facebook page with thousands of loyal fans.

Special: FREE Guide… 4 Things I Did To Build My Blog Using Only Free Traffic

So your ability to succeed is already compromised to some extent.

It may even be doomed to failure.

An Even Worse Scenario

Now, anybody could write a blog post detailing the elements of this “Amazing 7 Step System.”

Many people have created and sold digital programs that reveal similar step by step systems.

This one is no different.

It works like this.

The people offering you this great system may have never had any direct success with it.

They might have just copied down those 7 steps because they have learned enough to know it can work.

It has probably even been proven to have worked many times over.

What makes this a scam is not the information, but the misleading expectations, and even the guarantee.

True: the 7 step system outlined above has led to the success of many bloggers.

False: it is therefore guaranteed that if you do each of the 7 things listed, you will have equal or at least profound success.

You see, giving people good information is fine.

But when you promise them predictable results, duplicate success… that’s when you’re moving into scam territory.

The reason people make that promise or guarantee is that it leads to a lot more sales.

I think it sucks, though, when people are not told the full truth about what they’ll have to do to start seeing some good results.

Or when they are not given the clear pitfalls of the system, like maybe

  • you have to spend a thousand dollars a week in advertising costs to make it work
  • having an email list of 10,000 subscribers is essential
  • it only works if you are in tight with lots of influencers in your niche
  • etc.

Had you known these things up front, you might have steered clear of this “Amazing 7 Step System,” right?

But you didn’t.

Systems

I love systems.

Figure out the step by step system that you need to achieve blogging success.

Then convert it into a checklist.

Each day, check off everything you have to do.

Then you’ve got a great, workable blueprint to guide you.

So, let’s look at the sample “The Amazing 7 Step System For Bloggers” a little more closely.

Is it going to lead to your blogging success?

Let’s be honest, here.

Special: FREE Guide… 4 Things I Did To Build My Blog Using Only Free Traffic

While this system is very simple in structure, it is far from easy to implement.

For instance, how do you “choose a winning niche?”

Some of the most successful bloggers I know have spent tons of time and money testing various niches.

Many of their “test runs” are flops.

Failure is very common, and really, should be expected.

Now, the good bloggers use those failures to navigate their way to success.

But the ordinary blogger just gives up after one, two or three failed attempts.

This is one reason why this system cannot guarantee your success.

Not by a long shot.

Even if you do everything you’re supposed to.

Nonetheless, the key is to having a system that you can use day in and day out with predictable results.

So, we’ll talk about that system in a moment.

But first, let’s talk about systems that rarely work.

Stuff That Sucks

You can’t just copy what somebody does and expect to get the same results.

It sucks that it’s not that easy.

But it’s true.

You see, everybody brings something different to the blogging table.

If somebody built a great photography affiliate blog, I only seeing the surface of that business.

I see that the blogger wrote a lot of cool reviews of photography equipment.

Then, I notice that she integrated Amazon links for readers to buy the equipment from that blog.

Finally, I know this blogger is getting big profits, so hey, I guess I could just do the same thing.

Right?

Wrong.

Because, here’s the thing.

Special: FREE Guide… 4 Things I Did To Build My Blog Using Only Free Traffic

What works for one person won’t necessarily work for you.

In fact, it probably won’t, or at least not to exactly the same degree.

Or, in exactly the same way.

There are so many reasons that the photography blogger is successful.

The proven step by step system she works from is probably the least of those.

There are some other things that are far more important to successful blogging.

Things like…

  • Having a good plan
  • Implementing the plan
  • Overcoming failures
  • Breaking through obstacles
  • Persevering against all odds
  • Being consistent
  • Truly caring about your audience
  • Doing everything possible to improve the lives of those you encounter along your journey
  • Being grateful every day for everything and everyone in your life
  • Trusting in a power bigger than yourself

Now, that may not be a complete list.

But the point is this.

Any step by step system may have proven results, but that doesn’t guarantee that they will succeed for you.

You have to take into account all the factors I just listed.

And believe me, they are way more important in determining your success than some cookie cutter system that anyone and her uncle can copy and paste.

The reason that most “proven step by step systems for bloggers suck” is that they fail to take into account all the intangible factors that lead to success.

So, if you’re just grabbing a system or method or tactic that worked great for someone else, it’s gonna suck if you think you will automatically get the same results.

And if you don’t get those anticipated results, you might think you’ve been scammed, or that the system really doesn’t work.

But please, don’t jump to that conclusion.

It’s not fair to judge someone else’s success by your inability to duplicate it.

Bonus: Stuff That Works

Okay, so now you might feel like you have nowhere to turn.

If you can’t find success by following somebody’s “proven step by step system,” then what’s left to do?

I think there is something that works.

You need to take stalk of yourself.

What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Special: FREE Guide… 4 Things I Did To Build My Blog Using Only Free Traffic

Write them down.

What is already work for you?

Do you have a Big Goal for your business?

And what specific milestone goals do you need to accomplish to achieve it?

So, yeah, take stalk of yourself.

Figure out what you have in place vs what you need in place.

Then develop your own system to achieve it.

I know that’s not the answer most struggling bloggers want to hear.

But it’s the one that works.

If you need help designing your tailor made system, then get some good coaching.

Find a mentor you can work with, and who knows how to put you on the right path.

You will then come away with a workable blueprint, your own system.

And you won’t need to chase your tail anymore, just hoping that something will eventually work.

Stop investing in other people’s “proven systems” and create your own.

Implement it.

That’s the true way to success.

So, how about it?

Are you ready to stop looking to catch lighting in a bottle?

Have you given up on watching other bloggers build great businesses, while you just sit and watch?

Are you done with copy cat systems and follow the leader “strategies?”

Do you understand why I say that “Proven Step By Step Systems For Bloggers Suck?”

I simply love the first point. SPAM

And how not every system that has worked for others will most definitely work for you. So many of such articles do not stipulate at what point the said blogger was on their blogging journey before the said system works. Also, some of them only give vague ideas on what to do or how it will work.

A newbie blogger goes off knowing and feeling like they have learned such magical information, only for them to go experiment and do not know exactly what steps to undertake and what results to expect after each step.

    Nice one, Donna…

Many people don’t know that success is not spontaneous. And secondly, often times, what worked for Mr A may not work for Mr B because they are all coming from different backgrounds and have different levels of connections.

I see a lot of them sell those things as courses but it doesn’t move me.

Thank you so much for pointing this out.

    Hi Donna.

Speaking as a software developer, systems always work. The problem with the 7-Step System in your example is that it isn’t a system. It’s a very high-level outline of a potential system at best. The only step in that list that could be part of a system is “buy a domain name,” which technically isn’t possible. All you can do is lease one for a period of time, but that’s just picking nits.

A system is very specific. The rest of the steps in your example 7-step system are VERY vague. Like you said, choosing a winning niche can take a lot of trial and error.

Things like “optimize your blog”, “great content” and “target audience” all need to be clearly defined. You read my recent rant about the “great content” advice, so you know how I feel about that less-than-useless bit of advice.

I’m always highly skeptical when I see people marketing “systems” for blogging, affiliate marketing, or network marketing. Like you said, it may be “proven” but there is probably so much that they left out that you don’t stand a chance using it. Unless of course you know how to fill in the blanks.

    Hi Donna,

Within 3 or 4 paragraphs I was thinking how expecting duplication without understanding the struggles behind the scene was like ‘trying to catch lightning in a bottle’, and you did close with that observation.

Using a successful blueprint, let’s say for blogging, is pretty important for a novice blogger. On the other hand, nothing fails like success, an observation that took me a long time to understand the beauty of.

As you pointed out, having a ‘system’ for any activity is just smart engineering. Yet, adapting to the reality of returns from each step, is essential. And, you can’t get this feedback without testing, evaluating, and testing a variation, and so on.

    Timely post, thank you,

    Hi Donna,

Blogging is not meet every blogger in the similar way. It takes time and efforts before a blogger find out his own tone and what he can do to plan and outline working strategies for his blogging business.

I have seen bloggers who are successful as Affiliate marketers and I have seen those also who are worst at affiliate but best at Adsense.

For some bloggers email marketing is the best yet some completely fail at this. It is all because we all are different.

To be successful, A blogger has to understand himself first.

Thanks for sharing this really impactfull step by step system for bloggers stuck.

    Hi Donna,

You’re definitely right, copying someone else step-by-step does not work. I’ve purchased several courses in the past where someone laid it all out for me and told me exactly what to do.

Guess what, nothing worked. I am not saying that I didn’t learn anything, as I always learn something new. However, when you purchase a course or product there’s no guarantee that it’s going to help you earn money with your blog.

Unfortunately, it’s up to you to do whatever it takes to learn how to profit from your blog. That’s why you have to constantly pay attention to Analytics to see what people are looking for and what content is resonating with them.

Based on those stats, you write more content and keep working towards your goal. Eventually, you’ll find what works for you.

Then you can package it up and sell your system to people who love buying systems 🙂

Thanks for sharing this and it’s such an eye opener.

    Have a great day 🙂

      Hi Susan,

As long as you always learn something from any course, then it’s certainly going to help you find your way.

The only problem with step by step systems is that people think you actually go step-by-step.

      That’s rarely the case.

You usually have to learn a few things here, and apply them over there.

Patch them together to create your own road to success.

People don’t realize that’s how it works, just get disappointed or feel cheated.

For all it’s shortcoming, a good course can be worth its weight in gold.

    Hi Donna

When we search the internet, we find innumerable articles saying proven ways to do this, proven ways to do that, proven ways to be a successful blogger and so on. Yes, these ways might have worked for a particular individual or for few of them. But it is not necessary that what worked for one may work for the others also. we need to find our own ways to be successful. I am not saying that what people say is wrong – yes you can be motivated or take inspiration from others but at the end you have to find your own path.

    Thanks for sharing!

      Hi Sonal,

      Well said.

I actually think the inspiration and motivation is probably the most important part of most step by step training courses.

In fact most the people that go through those trainings only usually do a tiny percentage of the course.

      It’s just a fact.

They get the inspiration and motivation and then move off on their own.

      That’s cool.

But sometimes they overlook some of the real important training that went on in the course.

They get too anxious to run off and do it their own way.

Always looking for the perfect balance here, aren’t we?

      Hi Rahul,

      You make an excellent point.

Everybody needs the same information and training to start.

But from there they have to get off the step-by-step path and make things happen in their own unique way.

It doesn’t mean the “7 steps” don’t work… but like you said, they just don’t work the same for everyone.

    Hi Donna,

Where did you get a copy of my 7-Step System for Bloggers that I was planning on selling? LOL. Just kidding.

Systems are ok, if used as a blue print, but they also need to include the little details that make each step work.

    Show them:

Step 1. How to choose a niche. Blog your passion or something else you like and could write about all the time.

Step 2. How to choose a domain name. Choose something that is easily remembered, i.e., http://www.YourName.com or something with the niche as part of the name. They also need to know where to look to get a domain name. List resources with some info or a link to the sites so they can check them out themselves.

Step 3. How to get good hosting. Again, list some hosting companies with links just as you would do for Step 2. Usually, they are one in the same.

Step 4. How to optimize your blog to get email subscribers. The need to know about autoresponders, opt-in forms, best places to put forms on blogs and in blog posts, how to use freebies to get people to sign up, etc.

Step 5. How to publish great content on your blog. I prefer “value-filled” instead of “great” content. They need to know how to get ideas to write about., i.e., quora, google, social media groups related to their niche, etc. They also need to know how to write the posts, add pictures, record video, or whatever they want to use to share their knowledge with their readers. So much in this one alone.

Step 6. How to market your content to your target audience. They need to know how to use social share plugins on their blogs, to share the posts on their social media platforms of choice, and for the readers to do the same. Also, how to use their autoresponder to send out broadcast emails to the subscribers. A lot to learn here also.

Step 7. How to convert your email subscribers into buyers. They need to know how to create products/services to promote to their subscribers or how to use affiliate marketing if they don’t want to create their own.

Damn, I think I have the basics to really create my own product based what I just wrote above. 😉

Like others have said here, ultimately, if someone buys a “system” or “systems”, they should pick and choose what will work best for them and make their own, following the basic guidelines.

I ran machines for a high tech company and had to train others to do the same. I learned the ins and outs of running those machines from the shift engineer. I was told by one manager to only tell the trainees what they needed to know to move the product, but I felt that the more they knew about how the machine ran, the better off they were.

Same thing applied with running a blog. The more you know, the better off you will be in the long run.

Thanks for sharing. Great post, as usual.

    Have a good one……Chris

      Hi Chris,

Wow, you did it my friend.

You’ve got your own 7 step system.

And you know, you actually do have the skeletal outline for your own training course.

It’s funny too, because I have actually created a lot of courses, and some of them are steps systems.

It just makes things sequential and compartmentalized for people.

But nothing ever actually proceeds in a clear step by step fashion.

That’s why I always combine each of my courses with some level of individual coaching.

One of the first things I try to do in all my courses is explain to people that while these are the things that they need to learn, they must then develop their own unique voice and twist.

That’s why I always include individual coaching with every one of my courses.

    Hey Donna!

Very interesting and valuable blog post you got going on here!

Having success with blogging has a lot to do with the individual pursuing that success.

The knowledge to build a successful blog, drive traffic, make sales, and all that, is already available to anybody willing to learn. Now, when it comes to putting it all together, that’s when each individual will do it their own way.

You have to find your own “groove” with the necessary actions to accomplish your goals with your blog.

I would only invest in education I have yet to learn. Trying to follow blueprints, and step by step systems from someone else is just not the smart way to approach your online goals. I’d look at these step by step systems and all that, and learn from them and then create my own. Something that works best for me, and only me.

    Great post, Donna!

    Cheers! 😀

      Hi Freddy,

      Get your advice on this.

It’s certainly true that you have to learn everything you can and top bloggers or the ones you want to learn it from.

They all share what they’ve gone through and various ways.

Sometimes they sell it in courses or maybe find it in a blog post or in a video training.

      It’s all valuable.

      It’s all essential.

No blogger can really go it alone until they have learned the basics in the essentials and the advanced techniques from the master bloggers.

But from that point on they cannot follow step-by-step systems blindly.

As you suggest they have to make it their own and put themselves into it to make it work.

You are right, what works for one blogger may not work for another.

She asked me for some tips and of course I was happy to send her some resources and tips but I also closed my email by telling her what I shared has worked for many bloggers but I could not guarantee she would have the same results and that she would have to tweak things here and there to make it her own.

There’s only so much a step by step system can do for anyone.

Unless it’s their own that they’ve developed from the ground up.

So yes, for sure … she should know that once she’s got her feet on the ground with any system, she’ll need to start tweaking things a bit to make it fit her specific situation, goals and desires.

      Nice job my friend.

    Hey Donna,

    Good post.

Here’s the thing: While most step-by-step process or systems do work, I think many people who try it go into it expecting the same results. But it’s impossible to get the same results because everyone’s situation is different. I had to learn that the hard way when I tried various systems only to see my results pale in comparison to the person I got the system from.

The best thing is to use bits and pieces, take small wins and use those small wins to gradually create your own systems that work. That’s pretty much all I do now because the people who I’m getting advice and tips from have 100K lists and have a considerable amount of money for advertising … things I don’t have. So I have to adjust accordingly and not fully expect the same results.

    Good advice though.

      Hi Andrew,

Absolutely….systems can work but it is up to the individual to be realistic about it. Some think that if they try it for 30 days they will be rich, then get disappointed and leave for the next one. Not a good way to go.

Indeed, the best thing is to take those bits and pieces and apply it to our own system. Yes..we have to investigate those lists people have. The bigger the list the more of a chance things will sell.

You are a realist and I’m sure that you will be successful.

Aha Donna! Sticking to the gold I mean good old basics 🙂

Follow a few set steps is what I do daily. It is what I have done for many years. My own little system. All the suck/scam/lower energy stuff is people who fear losing money or losing their rep or being humbled or looking bad or being upstaged or failing, or, 1 of 50 million other fears, said people diving into low energy strategies. Or, higher energy strategies that have left out some serious fine print.

I recall hearing of one rocking blogger who was killing it in their niche. I tried to replicate their advice. No dice. Turns out, there was never any mention of the blogger having a 100,000 subscriber email list LOL….that tends to change things a wee bit, and would alter the system some too.

I did try once but I felt like a sheep baaa baa following someone I didn’t really know because the system looked pretty good to me. The person running it I didn’t know, but respected for all his work. He was always telling his story of rags to riches, but thing just didn’t sit right in my solar plexus.

I learned I couldn’t duplicate due to my piddly little email list and he had a bazillion peeps on his. AHA…I don’t regret it because I did learn a lot. I took bits and pieces and did it on my own.

    Nailed it, Donna!

Glad to see you putting this out there! You’re right and I tell my clients this when asked about building their following and their communities. Take everything you read with a grain of salt because what works for one, may not work for you. However, taking a bit of what you learned from others and adding your twist can take you places you’ve never been before.

    Good read!

      Hey Bren,

Indeed, it is so difficult to explain to clients …. We all have to take things we read with a grain of salt because if it works for one person it may not work for another. But by no means ignore it…read and apply it to your self and tweak away!

Agree Donna that “step by step systems” is better than “step by step process of achieving ABC” – in this day and age, we need to let the people to decide what is best for them and let them make their own smaller strategies and tasks.

Too many claims to teach XYZ in ABC steps. I don’t think it creates real innovation, flare and excellence. To me this is more like spoon-feeding. A good message through your post. Cheers.

Hi Donna, I could not agree more with you on this one. What works for one person may not work for another. Sometimes it is just the personality of a person that can make a difference. If you have a very shy person who is not sociable they may not do well with sharing articles and connecting with others. They may be a fabulous writer but they can’t communicate well with others.
Different types of businesses also play a major factor too. What works for one business may not work for another.
I’m so glad you wrote about this – great advice for those starting out and for those of us who have been in it for some time.
I believe have a list – have a plan and work hard at it. Rinse and repeat. Adjust as needed. Be ready to change quick as everything today changes so fast.
Have a great day Donna and I hope you don’t have the rain we are having here this morning…..

      Hi Lisa,

I just had to write about this because I see too many folks that have been online for a while jump in and out of these “systems.” It only gives them a bad reputation. Plus the new folks coming in can get confused so easily.

We do have to consider that there are personality types and we have to work with each individual’s. Even in my digital courses I mention that many times and give people the nudge they need.

      Hi Arlette,

Good to know that this title scared you lol. I got your attention and that is a good thing. Rethink your strategy and look deep into yourself to see if it is something that you are so passionate about that you wake up in the morning and cannot wait to jump on to your business.

    Hello Donna,

    Great shout over here 🙂

Every body has their own techniques for moving forward. There are many proven ways on the Internet, which tells us that follow
these and one can turn their blogs into a winning one

Its not necessary that the thing worked for one wil do the same for the others. Its all about priories. Yeah there could be some
locks in those steps but not every single will work for us out.
I have seen many bloggers who completely follow those steps from the net and they end up their bloggings carrier.

They are the guidelines, but the work and sourcing should be carve within our minds. help those steps as a principle and apply our own
formula for the success is the key.

i love the way you wrote, “You love systems” Its good to be systematic and one could prepare for all the things which need to
be dealt with every single day. This could be a great win win situation for us.

    Thanks for the share.

    Shantanu.

      Hi Shantanu,

I do like systems, however, I will use them as a guideline to what goal I want to achieve. I’ve purchased many but didn’t “follow the crowd” making the head guy money. Instead, I used it as a good learning tool to apply to my own unique business.

People who are mesmerized by the guy with the new shiny car will think they can duplicate the same. But not true because we don’t really know the pains that guy went through to get where he is. Then he comes up with a great system. Nothing wrong with that! But If a person is gullible and believes he or she can do everything to walk in the leader’s footsteps, they are in for a surprise.

    Hi Donna,

You’ve blown up the bubble! People really feel like they have got the philosopher’s stone that will convert their blog and them into golden success when they get across such information with guaranteed promises. But alas, it doesn’t really happen so. You’re right to the point when you state that “What makes this a scam is not the information, but the misleading expectations, and even the guarantee.”

Information is good, but that is openly available on the Internet. Only information doesn’t always work. I’m amazed to see newbie bloggers coming up with ebooks and courses teaching secrets of successful blogging and earning money when they themselves have just started!

Actually in blogging, nothing is guaranteed. May be you get your hands on a really authentic and good system, but it depends on you – the user, whether you can make the most of it. I feel systems don’t alone work, it’s the system+user+guidance that works. Because as you mention, “You can’t just copy what somebody does and expect to get the same results.” There are so many personal factors involved in the process and its best to create your own customized/personalized system.

Thanks for creating awareness with this post. Have a great rest of the week ahead!

      Hi Vinay,

Yep….I’ve blown up that bubble because I am so tired of seeing new people come in with all the “answers to prayers” so to speak. Systems are fine when you buy into them, if you want, but one needs to consider all the variables.

Who are they? Do they work full time or not? Have they had any marketing experience other than what one person has told them? Are they passionate about the niche? I can write a very long list.

As you mentioned above it is system+user+guidance that will work. We cannot copy and paste another person lol. It is a very personalized marketing approach.

It’s a good thing I read this article because the title was throwing me off! lol You’re absolutely right, no one can guarantee something will work just because it worked for someone else. I believe we write things that are helpful and can guide people in the right direction but some will do better than us while others will do worse. That’s just how life goes.
