The Best 3 Ways To Get Your Blog Noticed

Get Your Blog NoticedI originally started to write this blog post because a new blogger who is in one of my training groups asked me what was the best way to get her blog noticed.

Now, a lot of times when I think about how you can promote your blog posts or your blog site, I think of some rather complicated strategies that advanced bloggers might use.

But for new bloggers, I wanted to keep things especially simple.

I came up with what I believe are the best 3 ways to get your blog noticed.

And not only are they good for starters, but these are things that really every blogger should be doing.

So, as it turns out, these are advanced strategies as well.

The only difference in the advanced version, is having an extended network of contacts to make these things work faster and better.

If you are a new blogger, you are going to have to establish your blogging network.

But this is the way to do it.

So it’s kind of a two-for-one deal.

It’s the best way to get your blog noticed, and it’s also the best way to build and expand your audience and blogging network.

So let’s get down to what I consider the three best ways to get your blog noticed.

The Best 3 Ways To Get Your Blog Noticed

Blog Commenting

Blog commenting is always my very favorite method for getting your blog noticed.

I don’t really think there’s any better way to start establishing a network of blogging pros within your niche.

The method is simple.

Be Active

It just requires that you find key blogs in your niche and start commenting on them.

And, keep commenting on them regularly.

Share articles from these blogs on your social sites.

Reciprocation

And watch to see which bloggers are reciprocating.

See which ones are coming to your blog to share comment on your articles.

Special: FREE Guide… 4 Things I Did To Build My Blog Using Only Free Traffic

Sincerity

When you leave a comment it’s important that it is a sincere one.

Remember, this is establishing contact with other bloggers.

You don’t want to come across as a phony.

That won’t get you anywhere in the long run.

So just leave a sincere comment that will add value to the conversation.

Depth

You can leave your one-liners home.

They’re not going to do add anything to the conversation.

Just think if you were asking people to respond to specific questions on your blog, and someone gave you one-word answers all the time.

They’re not going to do your comment thread any good, and they’re not going to do other bloggers any good.

They certainly won’t do readers any good if they are looking for an interesting conversation on the blog.

Think of ways to give some depth to your answers, and add value to the conversation when you comment on blogs in your niche.

Be Engaging

If you don’t resonate with a blog post that you’re reading, then just don’t leave a comment.

Or, if you want to show support to the blogger… then share the blog post on social media.

Some of your followers may find it interesting.

The main thing is to show that you are engaged and interested in the blog you are visiting, even if the topic is not perfectly aligned with your niche.

Don’t Be Self Serving

Don’t just leave comments as a way of getting a link back to your blog.

I see these kinds of bloggers all the time.

I called them link chasers.

They’re not really interested in what’s going on with your blog.

They just want to get a link back to their own site.

And, of course, they spend all their time chasing links from blogs that have a high domain authority, top search engine ranking, or whatever.

In fact, I do not even accept comments like that, so you probably won’t see them on my blog.

I send them straight to spam which is where they belong.

Be Everywhere

Now, it’s not easy to be everywhere.

But that’s certainly the way that you’re going to get noticed.

So do your best to let people know that you’re out there.

I will usually boost my posts on Facebook.

Special: FREE Guide… 4 Things I Did To Build My Blog Using Only Free Traffic

It cost a few bucks, but it’s well worth all the eyeballs that you can get your articles in front of.

Now, the goal here is not for everybody to click on your links and come back to your blog.

It’s certainly not to get them engaging with you and leaving comments.

It’s simply about building a blogging brand.

Just like on TV when you see a commercial, the advertiser is not looking for you to take some immediate action, like “call now to order this product.” t

They’re simply letting you know that they are a big player in their industry, they selling a certain product and are making you aware of their presence.

It’s called brand awareness.

You want people in your niche to be aware of your blogging brand.

That’s why it’s important to try to be in as many places as possible.

Ryan Biddulph is a top pro blogger who you have probably seen a lot of.

His Blogging From Paradise has become a widely recognized brand name.

Get Your Blog Noticed

Why?

Because he has mastered the art of getting his blog noticed virtually everywhere… from his entertaining, daily Facebook Live videos to his numerous guest posts… you’d have to be living under a rock to have missed seeing him.

Get Your Blog Noticed

Guest Posting

Speaking of that, it’s a great idea to do some guest posting.

That way you get in front of other people’s audience in an authoritative way.

Ask people in your niche if you can write a guest post for them.

But don’t do that until after you’ve established a relationship with them.

There again is the beauty of implementing a brisk program of blog commenting.

When people see you commenting on their blog, then they know who you are.

Or, when they see you on social media sharing their posts, they know who you are.

And, when the time comes to ask if you could write a guest post for them, then they already know who you are and are therefore more likely to give you the nod.

Now guest posting is a lot of work.

Special: FREE Guide… 4 Things I Did To Build My Blog Using Only Free Traffic

I certainly don’t want you to think it’s a quick and easy thing.

When you write a guest post, you always want put your best foot forward.

So you can’t just through the process and deliver any old thing.

You want to produce a great guest post, not some ho-hum, ordinary dribble.

But there are things you can do to accelerate the process.

One of the things you can do to get your ideas moving forward is to look at some of your old blog posts.

Simply repurpose them.

I’m not suggesting that you do a watered-down, boring version of them.

Many times, a repurposed blog post can be much more detailed, up-to-date and far more valuable than the original one.

So, if you’re stuck for topics to pitch to other bloggers that you want to guest write for… I suggest you start with some things you’ve already written in the past.

Publish Readable Content

I want you to take it very seriously that your content is readable.

Keep it simple.

Typically, I suggest that people write on a 3rd to 5th grade reading level.

Include everybody in your conversation.

One of the biggest mistakes I see new bloggers make is to try to impress people by talking over their heads.

The idea is that if you can use big words and complicated sentence structures, people will think you really know your stuff.

Maybe people will think you really know your stuff.

But they probably won’t be interested in reading too much of what you write, either.

Not too many people go to blogs to get wowed by literary style.

They’re typically looking for solutions to their problems.

That’s all.

They don’t care how smart or clever you are.

They just want answers and guidance.

So know your niche.

Know what problems people in your niche have.

Solve those problems in a simple, straightforward manner every time you write a blog post or shoot a video.

This is sure to keep most people interested in what you’re doing because after all, they just want a solution to their problems.

That’s why they come to your blog.

That’s what you should give them.

When you do this consistently day in and day out… your blog will get noticed.

    Hello Donna

Growing a blog from zero to hero is not a new thing. The way to know that I think is to observe, and of course, ask questions. When I started early as a blogger I did a few guest blogging even when I didn’t know the core benefits. As time moved I noticed that my blog traffic loosed out. Then, I was too lazy to comment on the blog of bloggers in my niche. The funny thing was that I started competing with people I should consult.

I think the last line you read was the worst mistake I ever made. Awesomely, I retrieved and gave honour to whom it is due. From the thin air, I can’t even remember, I met Ryan Biddulph who taught me a whole lot through his blog and I kept growing building relevant relationships with others.

Getting noticed as a blogger is a deliberate action. Like nobody jumps into being at the face of everyone by being selfish of others. Blogging is about engaging with people. Through engagement, we get noticed. No engagement, you remain unseen The actions steps you shared here are of course true facts because I’ve practiced them myself. The YouTube video was awesome, and I enjoyed it 🙂

    Hi Marios,

Indeed when it comes to commenting it is the “cheapest” way one can get noticed very fast. I always say that commenting is the backbone of our blogs as well as others.

    Hey Donna,

Very explaining, very elaborate article. Growing a blog is indeed a task that needs time and a lot of hustle (as GaryVee says), so tips like these are really very helpful.

I’m getting a lot of insights from this and Ryan’s article as well as Ryan’s book on commenting. I think it is the cheapest (in terms of money) way to get noticed fast. It needs a lot of time and the right blogs – but then again, I wouldn’t like to be a link chaser 😉

Would you suggest commenting only on blogs of your niche, or other niches as well?

    Thanks!

This is great advise and I couldn’t agree more. I consider myself a beginner when it comes to blogging and I find that it is a true time commitment to comment on blogs effectively. Its like you said it is important that you leave a sincere comment which means you really have to take the time to read and internalize so you can leave a sincere comment.

It really does work. I see a big spike in the engagement on my blog when I regularly comment on other blogs. And of course, as expected I experience a big decrease when I stop.

I need to make it a goal of mine to add these points to my regular schedule. I am having a hard enough time making time to create the content but I need to also make it point to add these tasks to my schedule. The fact is, it doesn’t matter how good content is if no one reads it.

Thanks for another insightful and very helpful post.

      Hi Dan,

Creating good content does take time. It is so true what you have mentioned – The fact is, it doesn’t matter how good content is if no one reads it.

This is why we do have to get out there and comment on other blogs because reciprocity does kick in. We just have to make it part of our DMO (daily method of operation) in order to chip away at other people’s blog posts. Even if we do two to three a day we can gain traction.

Hi Donna, I love your video! i agree with all of these ways to get noticed. It takes persistence and many months or even years to get noticed. My favorite on the list is to publish readable content. That’s a necessity. As for being everywhere, I really have a hard time with that. As you can see I’m late here to your post. I wish I could be more places but time is a scarce commodity that I wish I had more of! Over the years, I have discovered really great blogs and sometimes I have spent too long trying to bond with the blogger to no avail. There will always be a few that will not a) reply to your comment or b) never reciprocate and visit or comment on your blog. I’ve learned to choose my peeps a little more carefully. Unless I absolutely love that blogger’s content, and it’s contributing to my life in some way…if they are not showing appreciation for the time I’m taking then I’ll move on. Ryan is a wonderful example of a blogger who does all of the things on your list and is very sincere. Thanks for another inspirational post and video, Donna! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas season. Seems like it’s upon us now. 🙂

      Hi Lisa,

It sure does take time and persistence to get noticed. I personally feel that it is a labor of love. I would go to many blogs and after a while if they don’t reciprocate in any way at all, I’m gone. I even would consider a re-tweet or a Facebook comment to be OK but other than that…I’m outta there.

Glad you mentioned readable content because the worse thing in the world is trying to squint and see what the heck a person has written. Also if it is interrupted with too many pop ups I just can’t get through the content.

It is the Christmas season and I wish you and yours a wonderful and blessed time.

Not only for beginners your answers were also for advanced strategies.

    1. Visit and comment sincerely on others blogs.

    2. Be everywhere. Need to add more to my system. I do have guest posting requested on my blog. Would
like to guest post. I need to ask. Need to add more articles to LinkedIn.

    3. Make my content simple to read so everyone will understand my content.

Glad you appreciated the strategies here.

The bottom line is to do what works to get your blog noticed, and do it in a way that you can make it happen.

By that, I mean, don’t make such complicated and time-draining strategies that you can’t possibly keep up with it.

Do something sane and effective… and keep doing it.

There are a few tricks you can employ with IFTTT that will help you be everywhere in less time, you just really need to be smart and recognize how what you create on one channel will then appear on another channel. So for example, if you set up a recipe to share Facebook updates to Twitter it may well be sensible to add tags to your posts so that the twitter shares then carry tags. You also need to take into consideration image sizes and ratios.

      Hi Dexter,

That’s a good point about IFTTT.

That and other methods can be used to leverage your time into expanded outreach.

It’s pretty difficult to just keep muscling out the social “push.”

Smarter work methods allow you to have work less, with bigger results.

I like your suggestion on the sincerity of comments. I have always struggled with that because while my main goal is to build relationships, I also want to grow my blog and quickly. It is a hard line to toe because it can be hard to comment a lot and always have something meaningful to add. Still, I like the suggestion and will take it to heart as I move forward.

It sure is a hard line to toe when it comes to giving a sincere and meaningful comment on other blogs. The more you do the easier it does become.

When it comes to grammar of our content affecting our traffic; I would say that it doesn’t mean anything to me personally. I rather read someone that writes how he or she talks than a step by step manual. But it can have an affect on Google’s robots. I’m not a pro at this, but it is what I have read.

    Hey Donna!

What a great post with helpful tips for the new bloggers.

What I like to do to get my blog noticed as much as possible is to BE EVERYWHERE.

Be all over the internet – engaging (commenting), connecting, sharing, publishing, and just always try to be in the middle of the conversationg related to your niche.

One thing that helps is Content Marketing. Guest posting would fall in this category. Sharing valuable content for your niche audience, not just on other blogs (guest blogging), but on other platforms like Quora.com, on a consistent basis, is what can catapult your blog traffic fast.

I would recommend to implement everything, track the results, and then adjust to narrow down what tasks work well for you.

    Thanks for sharing this!

    Cheers! 😀

Although it is difficult at first, being everywhere is possible. All we need is a good and realistic plan. Once we do so, we can be just about everywhere we need to be. When it comes to guest posting, it does introduce us to a new audience, and Quora is a great place to get noticed too.

I have done just about everything and narrowed it down to what is working. But sometimes things do change and I have to go with the flow lol. It comes down to disciplining ourselves to each and every task that we decide to do for our business. Phew…..

    Hi Donna,

Engaging with fellow bloggers is a great way to to get noticed. Not just by leaving valuable comments but also by doing guest posts and expert roundups. Facebook live, and Youtube videos are also a great way to make people aware of your blog or brand.

A lot of hard work needed to turn your blog into a brand. One cannot do it overnight. It took time to engage and get noticed with industry influencers.

Also one should not ignore the importance of helpful content on his blog.

I have seen the blogger who focuses too much on guest posting that they have no time to write on their blogs.

      Hi Gaurav,

Engaging with other bloggers is on the top of my list to get noticed. As long as we have that sincere heart and mind, we will get reciprocation in one way or another.

When it comes to FB Live and any form of video, it is one of the best ways to get people to see who you really are and what you do. It is the best way for branding I think.

When it comes to guest posting, it is a commitment of time and energy so we have to make sure we have the spare time to do so. Running our own blogs take time, so guest posting is an added addition to our business plan. It works out great, but we have to have the time to do it.

Great tips Donna! I must admit I have a love/hate relationship with commenting. I do enjoy the process and have learned so much from other bloggers, especially you! On the other hand, being on the receiving end of comments is sometimes a trial. There are those you referenced, who promote their latest course or book in their comment. Then there are those who obviously don’t bother to read the whole article and leave a comment that makes no sense. Just yesterday someone left a comment that was nothing more than a cut and paste of a paragraph from the article followed by the words, “I really like this!” and linked to a blog that is nothing more than product reviews. And yes, I deleted the comment.

But every once in awhile a topic will spark a really great conversation and I fall in love with the process all over again.

The one thing that shames me every time I see it referenced is guest posting. Oh my, how long I’ve had that on my list and never manage to get around to it! I know it’s worth the effort because of the response following the occasional interview I do or if I’m asked to contribute to a blog, I just need to get off the “preparing to do it” treadmill and jump out there. Thanks!

      Hi Marquita,

I know exactly how you feel about commenting. It does take time and energy and sometimes it can get a bit overwhelming. It is part of the whole blogging process and an important one at that. I find that if I take my time….even if I’m late in my response….I can give it my all. Then I can enjoy the whole experience of commenting.

As for guest posting, it is difficult to do because there is so much going running our own businesses. We have to wear so many hats in one day it can get exhausting.

    Hey Donna,

Great stimulating tips. In order to make your blog/products more noticeable, We have to take care of things that you mentioned above. I know, We can’t gain it in only one day, It take a lot of time and efforts.

We should learn the ways in which we can engage with some genuine persons either through comments and social media and being sincere is a key point and you are absolutely right, We should always try to give some good values to the conversation. Irrelevant comments is nothing,

Thank for sharing such perceptive post. I watch you videos on YouTube and I loved it.

    Maria.

      Hi Maria,

It is always nice to get feedback and you certainly made my day mentioning that you watch my videos on YouTube and love it. Thanks bunches!!!

Sincerity is a key component whenever we are on someone’s blog and/or social media. People have a funny way of knowing intuitively if someone is sincere or not. It is always best to be sincere, stay positive. Just skip over the negative we run into on these platforms.

      Thanks again,

    Donna,

What a great photo for this blog post. And I love the way you cited Ryan Biddulph. You often cite other bloggers and recommend them, creating such good will with the other person and your community. Not only are you seen everywhere, you never fail to quickly comment on people’s blogs if they have commented on yours – and then you always share their post on social media.

You talk about your successful blog coaching and you always provide easy links for the reader to sign up.

One more point I want to make is that what you are doing, and have been doing, is by no means quick and easy. There is no quick and effortless and automated way to leave meaningful comments on other people’s blogs. You have to take the time to actually read the entire blog and you have to provide a thoughtful and interesting answer, one that provides additional value. And then it also takes time to share other people’s blogs on social media. Most people are seeking a quick and easy way to make money fast and then go off on vacation.
It doesn’t quite work that way, does it?

You really are practicing what you are preaching – and – with lots of caring and warmth.

    Warmly,

    Dr. Erica

      Hi Erica,

First I would like to thank you for your kind words about me. I appreciate it my friend.

No, it is not something that is quick. Indeed, we must read the blog in order to give an appropriate answer to it in the comment section. So many people like to skim through or just leave that one liner. Many of which do it for a backlink but it is easy to spot out. I have many that I moved to my spam or trash in my back office. I should take a screen shot one day of them all he he he. But of course, I would have to block out their name and information.

      Thank you again!

    Hi Donna,

You shared some valuable advice for new bloggers who want to get their blog noticed. Commenting, guest posting and providing relatable and valuable content are sure-fire ways to get a blog noticed.

Now that I have two sites to promote I’m working on a calendar to make sure I’m where the action is. 🙂

What’s worked for me has been commenting on other blogs and hanging out on social media where my audience is. I plan on doing guest posting to promote my new blog in 2018. You and Ryan are setting great examples in this area! 🙂

Thanks for these great tips! You know I’ll be sharing this one.

Have a great day and rest of the week!

    Hi Donna,

    Thanks so much 🙂

You are all over the place with your rocking Facebook Live videos, insightful, authentic comments and with your continual cross promotion. It ain’t easy for sure; being all over pushes you outside of your comfort zone regularly, but goodness, the benefits are well worth it. Your persistence in building bonds and creating value in an authentic way is awe-inspiring.

As you know, I do the detached (wishing it was Buddha like but not there yet or ever LOL) deal of not checking my blog metrics. A few days ago I came upon my daily traffic stats by accident, while checking my DA. Whoa. Detachment works LOL. But really, it was just 5 seconds of gratitude, then back to serving people across a wide range of channels, and loving the ride.

It’s almost like you are so focused on having fun helping people in many spots that although you celebrate the worldly success, it is simply a few seconds of celebrating, then back to the fun part of giving, serving and just plain feeling grateful that we have such awesome jobs.

      Hi Ryan,

I’m so glad you mentioned how you “detach” from the results and statistics revolving around your blogging efforts.

I always feel a little bit guilty for doing this.

But like you, I’m having so much fun connecting with people and helping them move forward in their lives and in their business… that I just don’t have time to always be looking at the stats.

I hesitate to recommend that to people because everybody says you’ve got to “know your numbers.”

I agree with that in theory.

But in practice, it just doesn’t really mean that much to me.

My blogging journey has always been about people, not numbers.

Hi Donna, great tips for those starting out blogging to get noticed.

I know I focused this year on guest posting and believe I hit at least 12 this year, but it gets harder to post to your own blog when doing that. It’s a balancing act. I don’t know how Ryan does it and runs 10 miles too!

I would add forums like Quora to get noticed too. Become an expert on a topic and flaunt it on the question/answer sites and forums. At the very least it will sharpen your skills but it will drive traffic IN TIME.

I think all methods do take time, there is no simple and quick way to get your blog noticed today. Just don’t give up!

Have a great day Donna 🙂

      Hi Lisa,

I know it takes a lot of time to try to be everywhere.

You give a good example, too.

Everybody says guest posting is so important to get exposure.

      But you’re right.

It makes it really hard to maintain your own blog.

You just have to decide at what point guest blogging (or anything else) is benefiting you, and at what point you’ve gotten all you can out of it.

      Everybody’s strategy path is different.

What works for you is what you should scale up on.

What’s not working so great – back off of it, and focus on things that are working best for you.

      And, true… never give up!

Thanks for these great tips. I do try to get my blogs out there as much as I can but it is difficult to do everything on a consistent basis. I need to put more effort into commenting on other blogs. Your post has pointed out that maybe I need to work on this more and social media a little less. I haven’t done any guest posting yet but something I’m working towards.

      Hi Ava,

Oh that social media…it can be a time consumer. If you set up a plan to work with for your blog, and stick to it, you will see that you will get noticed. Now the trick is not to overload yourself so start small. If it is an hour a day to dedicate, so be it. Whatever time you realistically have jump on the blogging bandwagon and start visiting others.

    Hi Donna,

Great tips for getting a blog noticed. It definitely takes a lot of hard work and daily activities to get a blog noticed. It’s nice to see that I am doing a little bit of everything that you mentioned, besides boosting Facebook posts.

I make it a point to comment on blogs on a daily basis. I learned about this when I read both yours and Ryan’s blog’s and figured I’d use that method to help me start getting noticed.

Just by taking the time to comment on a regular basis, I’ve been able to land some guest posting opportunities. So yes, this is a great way to get on someone’s radar and then reach out and get a guest posting opportunity.

It does take time and like you said, you have to do it on a regular basis. I also make it a point to share the content as this helps me get noticed more.

Like you, I hate it when someone leaves comments on my blog and all they are interested in the backlink. I don’t even approve those.

The worst thing I have seen in my blog comments. Someone copies someone else’s comment and then uses it as their own comment. They can’t even take the time to come up with their own comment.

Instead, they just copy and paste someone else’s comment as their own. Unfortunately, none of those comments get approved on my blog as well.

Thanks for sharing these tips, I have no doubt that they will help people get their blog noticed.

    Have a great day 🙂

      Hi Susan,

Yes these things definitely will help you get noticed.

I like the way you develop a schedule and a “regular basis” routine for doing your log commenting.

If you just leave it up to random time or when you get in the mood, then you probably won’t be doing it as consistently as you should be.

To make this a cornerstone strategy of your business, you really need to map it out and figure out 1. who you’ll be commenting to and 2. how often and then 3. just check them off one at a time – each and every day.

Anytime you develop a system in your business, it helps you go much further than if you decide you’ll just “get to it when you get to it.”
