How To Write Blog Posts Like Crazy

This post was most recently updated on July 30th, 2016

How to get blog ideas

Do you know how to write blog posts like crazy?

I do.

In fact, I’ve been doing it for quite a while.

Not only blog posts, actually, but all kinds of stuff from one-page sales letters to 200-slide Powerpoint presentations.

Most bloggers I coach, though, are particularly interested in how to write blog posts like crazy.

What’s Crazy About Writing Blog Posts?

There’s nothing crazy about the writing, it just gets kind of crazy in terms of the volume of writing you have to do.

Some bloggers actually post every day or more!

Now, to me, that’s a crazy lot of writing they’ve got to do.

How do they dig up so much material?

How do they come up with so many ideas?

How do they do all that research?

What’s My Method For Writing Blog Posts?

I don’t have one.  Or, at least, I don’t have “just” one.

I use all kinds of different methods.

Sometimes I do what I’m doing right now.

I just sit down and start talking about stuff I know pretty well.

Other times, I know what I want to write about but don’t have a clue about the topic.

Like, maybe I’m hearing a lot of my clients asking me about how to use Instagram for marketing and I have no clue.

First, I tell them “I have no clue.”

Then, I tell them… “But I’ll get back to you with an answer real soon.”

I’ll turn to some of the product creators I know and ask them who has a good training course on Instagram.

Then I buy it, study it, condense what I’ve learned from it into a blog post, expand that into a video training and so forth.

In other words, I do the research.

I also study what other people are doing.

I keep notes all the time.

I organize them in Evernote.

I refer to my notes when it comes time to write on a topic.

Sometimes, I just need to get some juice flowing on a topic and so I turn to some PLR files I keep on my desktop.

I’ll tell you more about that in a short bit.

How Do I Suggest You Write Your Blog Posts?

Naturally, I suggest you do the things I just told you I do.

But let’s get real.

If you’re cranking out a crazy amount of blog posts, articles, e-books, training manuals and more… you’ve simply got to cut to the chase.

Now I know that some people just love writing and they’re fine with doing it  hours a day.

That doesn’t mean they’re better at it, just that they really like doing it.

My husband, David, has been a professional freelance and ghost writer for years.

He’s really good at it.

People pay him a lot of money to write for them.

But he can definitely get burnt out on the process.

Often, he’d rather do a video series than write an e-book.

Writing is work, even if you’re good at it and even if you love doing it.

To write good blog posts, though, there’s simply no getting around 3 essential steps:

  1. coming up with ideas your readers will love
  2. doing the research to put those ideas into written form
  3. writing the darn thing

If you’re doing a lot of writing, it’s a very challenging task to come up with great material day in and day out.

Is There An Easier Way, So I Don’t Go Crazy?

No.

There’s really no easier way to write than to write.

But yes, you can get some help along the way in the form of ideas, inspiration and ready-made outlines to work from.

That help can come in the form of PLR, or “private label rights.”

You can buy articles, e-books, blog posts or anything else that’s all written out for you.

They often have done-for-you graphics and even sales pages in case you’re putting together an e-book or training course.

What you need to be careful about, though, is that while some companies that collect written source material give you an absolute right to use it in any way you want… others put restrictions on how you can use it.

I’m not going to get into a whole PLR training here.

Just know that what you’ll usually want to get is unlimited use of the PLR material you buy.  That way, you can simply copy and paste the material onto your own word document and own it as if you had written it yourself.

You can name yourself as the author, you can put links in it to anything you want, you can add your own images.

THE BIG PROBLEM with PLR is that too many people just copy-paste and add these articles to their blog site.

You should never do that for many reasons…

First, it’s not written in your branded “voice.”  It’s written by someone else and it sound like it is.  Your readers are not stupid.  They’ll see through this.

Second, it will probably get tagged by search engines as duplicate content since other folks who are doing it wrong have also just copied and pasted the exact same content.

Third, probably most important… it’s usually not very good or up to date.

Most PLR is thrown together haphazardly, and it may have been grabbed from old research and patched up with PLR articles from the day of the flood.  Do you really want to recommend that your readers rush to open a MySpace account?

What’s really good about PLR, though, is that you get outlines of things to write about.

You get a ready-made structure to work from, and you just need to re-arrange things, add your own commentary, pull in some fresh research and you’ve got something original, well-written and based on the latest research.

Believe me, it’s a big time saver, especially if you’re putting out a crazy amount of content on an ongoing basis.

You Can Start Using PLR Today

So, here’s some of the best sources for PLR that I’ve found…

Easy PLR
http://www.easyplr.com/

The PLR Store
http://theplrstore.com/

Master Resale Rights
http://master-resale-rights.com/

PLR Wholesaler
http://plrwholesaler.com/

PLR Monthly
http://www.plrmonthly.com/

There are many, many others, too, but I’d start with these.

They all have decent quality, although you can never be sure what you’re getting until you’ve purchased it.

Prices typically range from $7 to $100 per PLR item, depending on how much content you’re getting.  If you’re doing a lot of writing, it can add up, but it’s clearly far cheaper than outsourcing it and paying per word.

My Affiliate Disclosure

I’ve actually got a horse in the race.

PLR Monthly is easily my favorite.

That’s because it is the best quality content I’ve seen.

It’s updated with new, additional PLR products each and every month.

And, while this material can easily be adapted to produce many, many blog posts, it’s actually written in the form of full blown-out digital products.

So, you can actually do your re-writes, updates, tweaks and twists and then turn around and sell them as information products instantly.

They come with a complete set of done-for-you sales pages, sales letters, graphics and everything you need to simply start promoting them.

You can also easily adapt these into free offers to use as lead magnets to build your list.

But, I’m really bringing it to the attention of my blogging friends, because it’s the best source of pre-written content I’ve found.

Now, I am an affiliate of PLR Monthly, so I can tell you that it normally costs $67 per month.

But I’ve been able to get a special deal for you. THIS IS ONLY TEMPORARY, though.  It can change anytime.  You’ll  have to visit the special link I’ve set up for it to see if it’s still available.

Here’s the special deal.

If you buy PLR Monthly through my special affiliate link, you will be able to get PLR Monthly for a one-time only deal price (until the offer expires).

Even though you only pay once, you’ll continually receive fresh material each month without having to hunt all around for it, wonder what’s good or not, and end up paying more for it anyway.

Click Here to see what the special deal is, and all the details of exactly what PLR Monthly has to offer.

If you don’t put out a lot of content, you probably don’t need this.

But for those of you who have to produce tons of blog posts, as well as your own information products, this is an invaluable resource.

[ Smiles ] The things that we do on a regular basis, eventually becomes a habit.

I merely write until my article is finished (I know that it must come to an end).

Once my energy level is high, I can create content with ease.

      Hi Renard,

Indeed, things done on a regular basis does become habit. I do the same as you and write my article until the end. Then go over and edit it.

I sure know about that energy level….when it’s high we need to take advantage of that.

    Hi Donna,

Wow, so many visitors and comments on this post. Of course it’s a great topic. I use PLR sometimes but completely rewrite as you suggested.

Most of the time I get my inspiration for blog posts are from questions I’ve been asked or questions I see posted that have gone unanswered.

Thank you for sharing your great sources.

As long as we re-write a PLR it is a step in the right direction. I call it my cheat sheet, especially when I have to write emails that give value.

I love it when inspiration comes from a question people ask. Then I can write like crazy lol.

    Great tips Donna.

One brainstorming technique that has worked really well for me is looking for ideas within existing articles I written. There’s always a good chance that ideas and points discussed within any article can be expounded. For example, If I’m writing about a particular marketing strategy, each point made can be transformed into a separate article that dives deeper into the point being made. I always look for answers in work I’ve already done as well as trying to bring personal experiences to life.

I think this approach adds a lot of value for the end user and does well in search engines since the content pieces are so related to each other and really hones in on specific topics and niches.

      Hi Robyn,

I like your brainstorming technique. It is a wise one because going back to our existing articles we have written and transforming them into separate articles that we can dive deeper into is a great strategy to use.

Indeed, it will ad value to the end user and search engines will love it!

Thanks for adding value to this post with your comment.

It is difficult to write a post when English is not your first language but you are doing just fine. Gosh I cannot imagine even speaking another language lol.

I tried, but I am not good at it. Your writing will always improve with time. There are many ideas we can come up with.

I don’t use PLR for my blogs, but only to get ideas for my emails. They do come in handy when we get suck. But we need to make sure the PLR is one that is up to date and written well.

I am back from my vacation and opened few blog posts to read. This one sounded me interesting and I started reading. This a very nicely written article.

You are right, PLR can make great difference in the amount of articles you write everyday as well as it helps you reduce research time.

Coming up with new ideas on daily basis can be difficult but PLR can solve this issue.

    Nice one. keep Writing!

I just had to write about PLRs because many of my new students are getting stuck on content.

With PLRs they can get pretty good ideas (but never cut and paste) and they are finding it a good way to structure their blog posts.

For me, it is emails all the way. With several different lists, all in different niches, I do have to engage and not send out emails to buy buy buy..so it does help to get some ideas.

I will be putting your ideas to work; and make sure I am doing more research. Many times I wish there were more hours in a day. Since there is not; I will keep working at it; and make a better schedule.

Great post here. I’ll say this much. I love to write but there’s no way I can write daily…or even multiple times a day.

I’m content with my once a week. But how o write. .I have to write 3 – 4 posts at the same time. Meaning I’ll start one topic .. get the outline..and then start another. Then work on each probably 2 hours at a time.

Helps keep my mind going by tackling different topics.

    Hey Donna

    Great post

I feel lucky because my co-founder Dave is an amazing writer and handles that for our business however of late I’ve started to feel like I’ve also got something to say.

Your point about the only way to get better is to just write more really hit a cord

I just feel like I don’t know how to structure the post and I worry that I will go off on a tangent and completely bore the reader.

That’s why your idea to to use PLR really resonated with me because it allows me to break down the different element and structure of the article and then write it in my own words keeping a solid framework in place so I don’t go off on a tangent.

I also read an article on Brian Dean’s blog where he talks about putting the keyword topic of the content you want to write into Udemy and how you can get great ideas on the different elements that need to be in your post by looking a the course curriculum obviously just like with PLR you don’t just copy and paste the curriculum rather use it to spur ideas and inspiration for your own post.

I’m definitely going to keep your ideas in mind as I break into the blog post writing world.

Thanks for sharing a very useful post with us all

      Hi Mark,

Welcome to my blog. PLRs are a nice way to get ideas for writing a post. It’s great for those who are new to writing. But don’t be afraid of going on a tangent….when you write your post, in your own voice (ALWAYS) just edit it before you push that publish button!

Bloggers love to read posts that are to the point, and always write for your readers. If you want to get your blog going to get more readership, there are so many things to think of such as headlines, content, and the way it is presented.

This is why I just had to introduce PLRs to people that might have a need to get some good ideas.

I would say…just start writing from inspiration. I’m sure you have lots to say, so write it and never let fear hold you back.

I have never been as regular blogging as I am not on the Kalatu platform. I have done a couple of 21 day blogging challenges and I struggle to come up with content. I am in awe of the people who do crank out blog posts every day.

The writing is only a part of it as we know there are so many other parts to blogging. Some days I can just flow when I write and other days it does not happen like that.

I have never used PLR and do not know that I will but I never say never to anything.

If you are blogging that much, PLR’s can be good for you. I only blog once a week so it is not much of a problem. I would say that if I were in a 21 day blogging challenge, I would go to PLRs to get some information. Sometimes just the first paragraph will get the wheels spinning in your head.

I wasn’t a fan of PLR;s because they were poorly written and outdated. PLR monthly gives me ideas especially when writing emails. When you have several lists it can make your head spin lol.

    Hi Donna.

I haven’t quite gotten “crazy” about doing blog posts (not yet at least!), but if I wanted to, I know I could easily do it by just doing different takes on something I know well. For example, take green cleaning. I could (and have) written multiple articles about it including “How to Green Clean,” “Why You Should Green Clean,” “What Green Cleaning Is,” “Top 5 Ingredients for Green Cleaning,” etc.

I also get blog post ideas from the latest news and research or if a special date or event is coming up. In addition, if I come up with a solution to a problem or see a new relevant product, I realize I have a potential blog post. In all actuality, I would say my problem is more with weeding out blog post ideas than coming up with them!….There’s only so much time.

But your PLR Monthly link peaked my interest, so I checked it out. Sounds very interesting! I was hoping to find some examples of what is provided, though. Do you have any links showing examples?

    Hi Donna

I’ve used PLR images, and did use (and drastically alter) some PLR articles when I got talked into blogging daily. It didn’t really suit my style, because – as a few others have said – I found it harder work to amend other people’s work than produce my own.

That said, it’s helpful for getting topic ideas.

I tend to be “inspired” for my posts by whatever’s going on in my life / work at the time.

Blogging daily didn’t work out for me either – to produce decent enough posts left me with no time to promote them.

I have a ton of PLR on my hard disk – might be the time to look for some inspiration (if I need it) – so thanks for a good reminder.

Re-working PLR’s are difficult to do in my opinion, yet it is a great way to get ideas. They are good to have around especially if we are writing on a topic and want more “juice” and information to give. A new PLR can do the trick.

As I mentioned above, I like to use them to inspire me when writing emails. So much to do so little time lol.

because they were not me 🙂 I do not like them.andrewriting would take me even longer.

It still takes me very long to write and I tweak around for days sometimes, but I do not post until I am happy with.
It is difficult for me to find the right words in English and it is not about translating

I’m not sure there are PLR articles out there for creative writers, but I get ideas from other writing blogs. Everyone who writes, whether nonfiction or fiction, shares many of the same challenges. A mentor once told me that writing a blog post is often as simple as responding or reacting to something someone else has written. There’s a lot of truth in that. And for fiction, I often use writing prompts from any of a dozen sources I have.

I know this is not the kind of writing you’re talking about, but… For creative writing, my son Nathaniel likes our “Noun Bucket” we use in homeschooling. The bucket contains about 400 folded slips of paper, each having a noun written on it. He reaches in and takes 3 — for example, “kitten”, “lighthouse”, “pen” — then spends 15-30 minutes writing a story using those 3 nouns. I’ve done this myself, and not only is it challenging and fun, but often it’s amazing what results from it!

As a writer, there are many PLR’s out there. It is great if you want to see what others are doing or to add a different highlight to a story. But knowing you, you don’t need one.

I am so glad you added to this post by sharing your creative writing “Noun Bucket” That is amazing. So glad you are homeschooling.

Hi Donna,I learn so much from you! I remember you mentioned PLR in one of your other posts and I can definitely see this helping people get started with an idea or use as an outline. Sometimes just getting the first few words done is all that\’s needed to get the creative juices flowing. I personally don’t see myself using this service however there are days where I get stuck on titles. When this happens I’ll go to Portent Tools for Title Generator, I put in my subject and it generates so many ideas. Thanks for sharing!Lillian

Thanks Lillian for sharing where you get your ideas from sometimes. Yes, sometimes it is just getting a few words to start.

You just provided the answer to one of my biggest questions right away.

I specially loved this get into the trenches, educate yourself and then get back to the clients.
I also do this type of stuff only I didn’t realize how powerful this one is. 🙂

And the suggestion about the using the PLR is also praise worthy.
This can help a lot of people if they take your advice seriously and use this resource correctly.
I’ve never seen such a short and straight to the point explanation about PLR.
We got everything from the good, the bad about the PLR and how to use it correctly.

And one last line to thank you for sending some great advice. 🙂
That made a difference and I’m settling down to a plan now.

      Hi Anant,

Good to know you found this helpful. It is sometimes difficult when starting out to come up with content. A good PLR program is very useful. You can get some great ideas and re-write them as blog posts, of course putting it into your own words.

I see some people who even sell a PLR as an ebook and never change a thing. Oh boy does that ruin your reputation in a second!

There are many PLRs out there, and a word of advice: Make sure they are up to date and have useful information. This is why I use PLR monthly at a one time fee lol

    Hi Donna!

Been meaning to get around to commenting all week but I’ve so busy preparing for a new product launch that I haven’t had the time to stick to my normal schedule.

Anyway… I’ve never been too big on PLR personally. Back when I was big on niche sites I did look at some article packs just for ideas but I haven’t ever purchased any. I know some people re-work it fantastically and its a great option for them, but I just haven’t been able to get into it as a user.

For a while in college I did actually think about starting up a shop for high quality PLR article packs. Really easy to sell broke college students on the whole ongoing royalty thing, especially since my plan was to have different students write about topics they were already passionate about.

I never had the time to carry out that idea, but I wouldn’t rule it out for the future. Unfortunately I have too many ideas, and too little time!

    Talk soon Donna!

The people I know who crank out daily blog poss aren’t focusing on a bunch of SEO, do outsource the writing and add their “voice”, and don’t write long posts. Their content marketing is focused solely on massive, quickly consumable content paired with consistency. I have to say that I tend to lose writing steam when I try to focus on keyword research and post length. It seems to take forever to write a post that way. However, focusing on easily consumable content is a winner and my audience actually engages it more than ones I spend more time on. LOL, isn’t that something!

Regarding PLRs, I’ve never felt comfortable enough with them to use it. Your posts has got me thinking it may be an ok source from time to time, and I would absolutely make sure my voice was in it. Heck, I think my audience would know it wasn’t mine in a heartbeat given my style.

      Hi Cristina,

Welcome to my blog. Our “voice” needs to be heard. Just coping and pasting a PLR will never cut it, However, it can be a useful source of information when we have those times whereby we want to give content to our readers to get a new fresh idea. Sometimes I have things in my head with no clarity. I look at a PLR and boom…I get the clarity I need and just go on my way writing in my own voie of course.

I have been using them more because of the many different email lists I have in different niches. Sometimes my head is spinning. And I want to give people the best I can with content on my email list. When I run out of ideas, a PLR does come in handy, but again, it is something I write myself.

I just came off of your blog and love the podcast there. You advice is excellent and your voice is so soothing.

I don’t use PLR because of the things you state here (not my voice, not my stuff, duplicate content, not up to date). I do agree that it can be used as a ready-made outline or as a help for getting ideas . . . but it’s not worth it to me to purchase it for those reasons.

My methods for writing blog posts like crazy? Well, I don’t write like crazy anymore :). I used to, but I write much less now. I still use most of the same methods, though. I come up with ideas in various ways (e.g. being in nature, going for a drive, client/reader questions, my own experience, my list of ideas that I keep in a binder, repurposing content) and I write when a particular post is relevant or when I feel inspired to write. I used to use an editorial calendar, but I don’t right now.

I also get ideas by using a method I learned from Darren Rowse (and then modified):

    1. Grab a bunch of pens in different colors and five sheets of paper.

    2. Take a look at your past five blog posts.

    3. In one color, write down the titles of your last five posts (in the center of the paper, one title per sheet of paper).

    4. In another color, draw arrows out from that central title and write down ideas for related posts. Consider the title, the post content, and the comments on the post. For example, I wrote a post about seven ways to attract more clients. I could write a more detailed post about each of those seven things.

    5. In a third color, write down extensions from those related ideas if you can think of any. For example, one of my seven ways to attract more clients is to know who you are. There are many aspects to that (e.g. knowing your values, purpose, personality, talents, etc.) and I could extend that post by focusing in on each of those.

I’ve done this a few times and I’ve gotten 25-50 new post ideas each time (and I could get more if I looked at more than the last five posts).

Once I have ideas, writing flows easily for me and I usually write about things that I have a lot of knowledge and experience with, so I don’t need to spend tons of time doing research. Although, I love doing research and I don’t mind doing it :).

Yes… what a long time ago Myspace seems now… staying current is a must with everything we write, so good quality PLR is essential!

I have purchased some plr material, and it can be handy for sparking off the brain when you see an interesting article… but it can take ages to turn it back into ‘your own voice’

Writing can get intense when there are blogs, emails. social media posts and products to be working on at the same time, perhaps on a variety of subjects!

I find inspiration from many sources, my email box is a great start… I have many sources of newsletters and a topic, or product or inspiration will jump out at me.
Then I will create around that subject or item.

I like to share products, communities and inspiration to help others in their online journeys

Talking of compiling a list of ideas for future writing topics, I am going to start using Evernote again, somehow I drifted away, but it will be easier than the notebook and documents that I use now!!

Thank you for your list of suggested companies to try, and your Special Offer 🙂

It keeps me on track when I want to send emails. Especially when using different email lists for different niches. I did make a few mistakes lol.

I use them as ideas so it gives me a way to keep on track.

Thanks so much for sharing, and get back on Evernote lol.

    Hi Donna,

I love when I come to your blog, I know I’m going to learn something or get some great resources!

I love writing but yes it is hard work. You hit the three essential steps right on. Doing the research is what takes up most of my time. Especially when I’m researching work-from-home jobs.

I had heard about PLR some time ago and purchased some articles but when I opend the file it was nothing but excel reports. That left a bad taste in my mouth so I didn’t touch that again.

Then I read a post Carol wrote about her PLR and I’ve been thinking about using them for my newsletter ever since. Thank you for sharing these resources with us. It’s a lengthy process weeding out the good from the bad so I really appreciate you sharing this list of sites with us here. Now I have a great starting point. 🙂

      Hi Corina,

I love when you research the work-at-home jobs on your blog. You are doing a great service to so many people. I imagine that takes a lot of work.

Carol’s PLR service has to be wonderful because she only will use the best out there.

I know how much writing one does from blogs to emails and even writing an ebook. It can take so much time searching for information.

This is why I had subscribed to PLR Monthly myself because the content is fresh and always new. Some PLR’s are so outdated, but this service gives me more bang for my buck. Through this link it is a one time payment. Otherwise it is that price each month. When I get a good deal I like to share it with others.

Because I have several lists, I sometimes get stuck writing niche specific emails. This made it a breeze for me.

Yes, it was a great week, and hope you have a great weekend.

    Hi Tor,

Thanks for outlining your blog writing routine.

It’s always interesting to hear what methods bloggers use to keep their content flowing freely and with high quality.

You’re right about maintaining “your voice” even when you’re using other material like PLR to help guide you.

Really, when you think about it, nothing is original. Good blog posts are based on in-depth research and that means looking at what other people have to say about a subject.

PLR is just a research shortcut since it compiles researched information for us.

But research is just the initial phase of writing.

It’s shaping the information and giving it life with our voice that results in good, informative, timely, entertaining and provocative blog posts.

Thanks again for showing us the steps you go through to write those great blog posts, Tor.

Thanks for a great post, Donna.

I agree with your views on PLR products.

If you use them, you should only use them as a template or as inspiration.

    The thing is…

If you are a serious blogger, which we all at least want to admit that we are, we have probably found our own voice (our style of writing).

Your readers will get to know your style, and they will notice at once if you are not writing in your style.

So if you are not careful on modifying PLR templates, your voice will get lost, you will sound like a robot and your followers will SMELL that something isn`t right (as old stinking socks in a crammed elevator.)

    This can damage your reputation.

I have not used PLR templates or any other templates yet.

Anyway, I have the following process of getting ideas and writing blog posts.

    1. Headline / topic

I get the ideas from other blog posts, magazines I read, conversation I have.

The best way is to be present and ABSORB the impressions.

When I get something that I think will stick, I write the idea down in my to do list.

    2. Writing a blog post like crazy

Since I am really all about being productive and utilize my own time in the best way possible, I have the following process.

Since people are the most productive 2-3 hours after they get out of bed, I write my blog posts first thing in the morning.

I will sit and write from 8-11.30.

Writing a good blog post takes me about 3,5 hours for the first draft.

In that time I do NOTHING else besides writing.

My cellphone has been muted and I have temporarily turned off the Internet connection.

    Then it`s lunch.

After lunch I spend about 30 minutes to 1 hour to review the draft.

The reason why I can write a good blog post in 3,5 hours, is that I know my topic and my audience.

The better you are know yourself, your business, your audience, their biggest struggle, your own strenghts and weaknesses, the better and FASTER you can write.

If you are interested in learning more about how to get to know yourself and your audience better, check out my latest blog post.

    Hi Donna,

I don’t have a method of developing blog posts either, but I see we have similar patterns. I do do research on some topics, I also get ideas just from many of my own life experiences then write them in a blog posts. I keep notes all the time to and sometimes I have so many I don’t know where to start when I get ready to write about it. I thank you for the suggestion to use Evernote. Didn’t know about that and will look into it to organize my own notes.

Funny you should mention. I actually just brought some PLR articles deciding to modify and update. Just did that the other day – glad I’m doing like the big dogs (you 🙂 are doing. Anyway, I’ve never thought about using the PLR as is. I’ve always thought the proper way to do it is to revise it and make it your own. It’s only for ideas as far as I’m concerned because I was always concerned about duplicate content.

What I thought was good here is that you gave other good PLR sites which I didn’t know about so this is very resourceful and great info. I was only used one site so I’m glad you provided others. Absolutely great resource this post.

Thanks so much. Great job Donna.

      Hi Barbara,

I too have so many ideas I get in just one day and stick them into Evernote. Even when I’m out and about and get an idea I jot it down on paper. Then later on transfer it on my Evernote where it is all in one place. It is a great way to organize my thoughts for writing blog posts.

Of course we can never just put up a PLR as is. It is a good way to get an idea or something we want to add and write it in our own words.

The problem with PLRs is that it is sometimes terrible, outdated information, or something that is unreadable lol. This is why I use PLR Monthly. It gives me the latest information and is written so well that I can “get it” on the first shot.

I use them for my emails because there is so much I can come up with myself. Besides, our list is gold and we need to provide the latest information to them. Just makes my job a little easier.

    Hi Donna,

I’ve read some plr articles and they’re typically not the best quality in terms of putting straight out there. So your suggestion of not copy/pasting is gold.

It’s probably good to break your writer’s block but like you said, you won’t be fooling anyone with it.

I find it easier to crank out posts when I write about something that’s on my mind or bugging me. When it’s already on the forefront its easier to keep writing about it.

When it’s a forced topic it becomes harder to put the pieces together. Not impossible, but more time and brainstorming.

      Hi Lea,

I do feel the same way as you. But for others, especially newer people, they tend to need more focus or even need to know how to curate something.

I find that using PLR’s is a good way to get them going on their specific niche. Picking something and putting it in their own words. Many of the new bloggers I teach are finding this difficult, so I just had to blog about it.

For me, I do us PLR Monthly because I have to write so many emails for different lists and need to give some good information to them. It helps me guide my writing.

I have one client that is using PLR’s to write ebooks. Not to copy and paste, but rather gather material and get it going.

There are a lot of PLRs out there that are just a waste of time, and this is why I mentioned the one I use that never lets me down.

    Hi Donna,
This has been a most enlightening post. For me, I should be writing at least once per week but even then it is a stretch and not to mention getting ideas that people would want to read about. I have used PLR articles but the problem with some of them is the material was not written by native English speakers and the language was atrocious. Apart from that there are times when the information is only at surface level. I am happy that you can point us to a credible source (whether you are affiliated or not) so that the material can be used with confidence. I never used them as they are. I get ideas from questions asked on the social media and also observe when persons are struggling to provide answers on a topic that they did not research. Once again, thanks for a good post.

      Hi Vinton,

So true, some PLRs are not worth it at all. I like to have them for getting ideas for my email lists myself. I never use them as is, but I can get lofty ideas to give to my subscribers.

I did find that the one I affiliate is the best of all. I just had to add that in there for people who want to use high quality PLRs Plus it is quite the bargain. It is a one time only fee through my affiliate because it did change to a monthly price.

Being on a higher level, you just know it is good! 🙂

I have not investigated PLR, but I will after seeing the links you shared. Honestly, just didn’t know where to find quality PLR. So thank you .I get ideas from articles I come across online, or something that pops in my head… and always thinking about “priceless” blog content – content that offers value. It really matters how often you post too.. I’m working on that .. LOL. Appreciate the info and will check it out …

This product is sixty something dollars per month, but through my affiliate, it is a one time payment of $67. This is why I wanted to share it with my readers.

    Hi Donna,

What a wonderful tool to use when writing about content. PLR, I never would have thought of that one on my own and it’s a fine tool to have in our arsenal of different things we use to write about.

I’m loving your course on “Blogging Magic”. You touched on many ways to get ideas on writing your blog posts and I think PLR was one of them. When I take courses it takes me three times going over it all to absorb the information.

I use spiritual books here and there, not a lot. I also like success story books that have cool quotes in them. It’s funny how I come across quotes that are used into today’s language like no pain, no gain is a proverb. I really enjoy that book. Another quote I like is “be yourself; everybody else is already taken” Oscor Wilde.

Loved your post and all the information you’ve given us. Thank you!

You have a wonderful night and day ahead,

Indeed, PLRs are a good source of getting good Ideas. This is why I use that affiliate link I have given above. I get monthly ones and they are so professional and fantastic that it saves me time searching for a good PLR.

It is especially great for new bloggers – as long as it is not cut and pasted lol. But rather, read and written in their own words.

    Hi Donna,

I just recently heard of PLR’s. As you know, I’m big into creating my own brand so personally I write my own articles that are between 1,500 – 2,500 words per article.

Ideas… I have no shortage of them. In fact, I have too many, lol…

I get a lot of ideas from knowing my business, audience and the specific problems I solve. In fact, I have an Evernote tab full of them.

Some are ideas that I come up with, others are from conversations or people ask me a question that I think others would want to know about.

One thing I’m doing, which I tried to do today, was get a little more personal with some articles that have information about me. Sometimes when we get into the flow we can look back and see that while our content is great it’s still good to get real sometimes and share our world’s with our audiences.

That’s something I’m going to try to do a better job of…

I may even get back to doing my weekly “Rewinds” that I used to do and got away from.

I suppose it’s accurate to say that if you own a business there is a lot to do… but is there anything more important that consistently reaching new customers? I don’t think so! Especially when businesses that blog earn 126% more leads every year on average than those businesses who do not blog.

Great post Donna! I hope you have a great week.

Recently, as I have formed different mailing lists, I wanted them to have the best information I could give them…you know that 80/20 rule thing. Some were bloggers, some marketers, newbies, clients, Phew….. Each list has to be segmented to the proper context. So bought the above PLR to make my life a little easier and am now able to give my lists some good information, in my own words on different topics.

Yes indeed, it is so important to reach new customers, and when we do, I like to give ’em all I can to enhance their ability to reach their goals.

Yet so many people use it as it is, which is counterproductive.

But if you use it as a base and make changes to it, add your own twist, combine various sources into one, or transform the products into different formats, it can be of great help and a real time saver.

    Hi Donna

You are right PLR have both pros and cons.

I think it also depends upon blogging needs of a person as well. If someone has a blog just to promote his business then PLR is one of the best options for him.

Yes for full-time bloggers who have to develop their authority as bloggers it is waste of time and money for them to showcase the contents that already been published and there is no guarantee of their updated status.

I agree with you quality and rapid frequency can’t or hardly go together. That is why it is good to share lesser but never compromise on quality.

The PLR resources you shared are pretty awesome and nowadays many PLR professionals are also offering long posts as PLR articles and they are getting huge response.

Thanks a lot for sharing this wonderful post on quite a unique topic.

      Hi Mi Muba,

Indeed there are pros and cons using PLRs. If one just copies and pate it to a blog post or anywhere else, they are not going to get a good response. We do have to write in our own voice and share information that we know.

I use PLR’s mostly for the many various email lists I have. I can get a good idea in a certain niche from a PLR product, and write an email in my own words. When one is juggling so many different venues of writing, besides our blogs, it sure does come in handy.

For many newer bloggers that are starting out, or may need time to develop their writing skills, it is a quick way for them to get an idea and write about what they have learned in their own voice.

      Thanks for your input,

For others, they may lack ideas. Some have asked me how do I write good content in my niche. I have the long answer to that one…just keep writing, research, read, ad yes meditate. For those who find that difficult to do, or maybe they lack time, I had to write this post for them.

I find that PLR’s come in handy for ideas…especially for those who find it so difficult to write. It takes time to fight those demons that hold you back. So the short answer is to get some PLR’s, read them, and then use an idea from that.

Many liked it so this is why I’ sharing this concept.

    Thanks so much Donna!

No doubt about it. You’ve definitely shared a ton of extremely helpful and practical tips for consistently coming up with more than enough magnetic content for any given niche
    and or industry etc.

And even though I’ve yet to personally go down the PLR rights road just yet.

I’m so glad to know they are so many viable options, if ever the need arises.

Besides, if someone only blogs once or twice a week at best.

You have done an excellent job of describing your proven creative idea generating process.

So that hopefully they have little or no problem, going forward consistently generating more than enough practical, problem solving content for their specific target audience.

Plus, sadly, I think far too many otherwise extremely capable entrepreneurs, simply don’t give themselves enough credit, for already having plenty of both specific knowledge and information that ‘s definitely worth sharing with the rest of us!

So they get way too caught up in this whole, “is what I do or already know worth sharing” mental prison!

And they sort of talk themselves out of sharing their extremely valuable knowledge and wonderful untold stories etc!

But thanks for sharing some of the tools that are necessary for us to start getting over all of that Donna!

      Hi Mark,

I like the way you pointed out how some people get caught up in “is what I do or already know worth sharing” mental prison.

I always believed that writing good content that we know about is best practice because someone out there doesn’t know it. Or maybe it is the same topic repeated, but with our own voice we can give clarity to it.

I can preach all day long of how to write good content, from sharing one’s own experience to writing about something they just learned and applied.

But there are some folks out there that just cannot get over the hump. For those, I had to write this post. I was getting lots of questions about content and some just needed a little push. Others had to overcome their fear and I found that advising them to obtain a PLR was something that gave them guidance.

For me, I can write all day long, but when it comes to the different email lists segmented, I do use the above PLR because it is the best one I found. It gives me good ideas to share with my list and give them value. This is what I use and that’s why I put the link there.

I’ve sorted through many and found it the best for me. I like to share what I use personally.

    Hi Donna,

You give some great tips here. I especially like how you emphasised the importance of not simply copying and pasting PLR content. This is what a lot of people do and, frankly, it stands out a mile when they do. It’s much better to use it as a kind of skeleton upon which to build.

One thing I find important to do is always write things down. If you hear something, watch something, read something or think of something that you think would be good for content, whether it be blog content or otherwise, always write it down. I use Windows Sticky Notes and I’m constantly adding things to it. If you’re out and about then write stuff down on your smartphone or just an old-fashioned pen and paper. Whichever way, if you get into the habit of doing this then you should never be short of ideas.

It’s actually interesting that you wrote about this subject now, as my last blog post was about this subject too, although I took a different approach. Instead of picking a topic to write about I actually decided to just jump in and start writing about whatever popped into my head. I’ll select that post in the CommentLuv link below. 🙂

Thanks Donna, I hope you’re keeping well and I wish you a great week ahead.

      Hi Glenn,

I just read your awesome post and enjoyed it. Yes, I too am always writing things down. I do use the 20th century pen and paper when I’m out and about. I get my best ideas from observing things.
Then I transfer it to my Evernote. I have tons to say! lol.

Just like the post you have written, I do hear those “excuses” – I’m not a writer, I don’t know what to write..etc.

I do always advise people to do what we both do, but some just cannot reach that point for one reason or another.

For those folks, I suggest PLRs to give them ideas. To get their minds going and sure enough, some of them will write wonderful content in their own words from just keeping on point with PLRs in their niche.

We all work differently and have our strengths and weaknesses. If we are weak at coming up with blog posts, PLRs can give some incentive.

The worst thing to do is copy and pastel..yes I have seen it done and it screams out “I just copied and pasted a PLR” he he he.

    Hey Donna,

I can’t pump out post after post after post. It takes me too long to write one so I am jealous of those who are writers and their imaginations are just full endless ideas. I didn’t know that David was a ghostwriter too. People kept telling me I should get into that but I am NOT a writer. I can’t come up with topics and I certainly don’t want to spend time researching a topic I don’t know anything about nor do I care to. That just does not appeal to me.

Now blog posts are totally different because you’re sharing with your audience information they are eager to learn about and know. Your method of buying a course and diving into it so you can help your audience, that’s impressive. I’ll usually find the information for them from someone I trust so at least they’ll get the right information but I usually don’t have time to learn everything.

I haven’t used PLR is ages but I know of a few people who still do. I have one friend who is fixing to dive back into this so I’ll be sure to point her to this post in case she may want some fresh content on a monthly basis.

Great share Donna, thanks for this and for sharing how you come up with your own blog post ideas. We all have our own ways right!

I write many emails these days and can get great ideas from this. I have several lists, so it is difficult to come up with good content to each email niche so I get my ideas from there.

As for blog posts…I have too many ideas lol. I come up with them usually from my clients who ask questions. Or things I have just learned. I do spend at least two hours a day learning. I have tons to share he he he. But I jot them down in my Evernote in different sections like Blogging, Marketing, etc.

    Hey Donna,

    Happy Belated Easter to you.

I have used PLRs in the past when I was trying to write blog posts every day (5 days a week) and they do help. I think the best time to use PLRs is when you run out of ideas of what to write. With PLRs it gives you a bit a of a jolt and framework you can follow to put out content. This would also be great for those that write 3 or more times a week.

For me, I just had to stop writing. I wanted to focus more on promoting through the different channels and strategies I use. This give me to write one great blog post a week (at least I try) and the rest of the time I can use for promotion.

I really like the video you made as well. Sometimes you get a better comprehension through videos more so than through written material. And that reminds me, I need to get back on track with that myself. I wanted to make one video a month and I skipped March 🙁

Thanks for sharing this info. on PLRs! Have a great rest of the week!

      Hi Sherman,

Indeed, if one is writing several posts per week, PLR’s will give good guidance. There are some people I know that are doing blogging challenges whereby they are writing one blog per day for 30 days. Unless it’s a series…I think a PLR would benefit them to get ideas.

I too only post once a week and the rest of the time I am marketing. Looks like we are on the same track lol.

As for videos…they work so well. I did promise myself to do more, but I’m getting there he he.

Yes once a month is fine to do. And you can make it a short video so it is clickable.

    Hi, Donna,

You’ve shared some good thoughts here today, and I really appreciate the points you have made. Yep, coming up with content is something that each and every one of us is faced with on a regular basis and is the mainstream of our online business. Your article is so relevant! 🙂

I especially like the advice you give about using PLR. At my PLR Shoppe, I have articles sharing how to use the PLR in the best way possible, which include ‘making it your own’ so I am in complete agreement with what you’ve shared. Folks can get a jump start with these. PLR is a great way to get content to use as a framework.

You mentioned David doing ghostwriting work, and that’s the all time best thing, in my opinion, to have completely unique and original work. It’s a whole lot more expensive, but an option like you said when someone can afford it.

For me, I like starting with the end in mind, when at all possible.

Creating a video on a relevant topic for my audience, with a clear message on Why, What, How, What If and Actions Steps can be like Christmas morning.

You have the media rich content (video), and can also extract the audio, can have a PDF download for opt-ins if desired, and can use the transcript for the blog post!

This only works if the video is well-planned and topic is researched, but oh is it worth it to be able to leverage the work on just this one medium.

PLR!! For folks that put out a lot of content, you’re right, using PLR is a wonderful option, and I hope everyone checks out your suggestions. Just plain smart. Love it!

      Hi Carol,

If there is anyone who knows about PLRs it is you…you have your own PLR shop where you really teach others how to use it and that is the important part.

As you well know, many people just paste up the entire PLR …Yikes! Not only duplicate content, but for Gosh sakes…put your own voice into it!

I do like PLR’s when I have to write tons of emails. I can get some ideas from them. Never used it for a blog post but sometimes, on those rare occasions where I do get suck, I’ll look over a PLR, get an idea and run with it.

Just nice to have for those “just in case” moments. However, I do get so many ideas from them with an email series if I choose to write one.

Yes, David was a ghost writer for many years more in the educational writing like encyclopedias, and health books. He had chosen this when his kids were little so he could be there to raise them and work when he felt like. Now he does all his writing for himself. And he’s a pretty good copy writer when it comes to sales letters we need to write. I admire him for that.

The reason I wrote this is because some people in my VIP Club were asking about how to write content. Well…when I get a lot of questions, I like to blog the answer just in case anyone else has that question.

Thanks so much Carol for your input!

Love this Donna, PLR is a good framework for when you lack ideas. I get some great articles from Sue Fleckenstein of Buy PLR Today, Sue is a great writer and sends customisation tips so you can get the most from what you have. There are lots of great suggestions in this post and I’ll check them out, thanks for sharing them

      Hi Sarah,

I like PLRs to get some ideas, even to learn more about a topic sometimes. Because I’m writing more emails these days than blog posts, I like to have some different ideas to give to my readers.

I subscribe to the above mentioned because not only do I get good content but also tweet ideas and much more.

Juggling so much, I always want to be prepared with blog content and emails. I found this and I love using it.

      Thanks for sharing,

    Hi Donna,

Yes, I do write blog posts like crazy and yet, missing in action this morning at my blog, even thought I’m at Carol Amato’s 🙂 But I tell you writing your own posts plus guest posts on the side while simple, it’s not easy.

PLR articles are great to give a jump start, get ideas to start off of, and a good opportunity for those who can’t write and can’t pay for a writer. But for those who can, I’m here 🙂

    Thanks for the heads up.

      Hi Sylviane,

Well as a writer you sure don’t need any help with this. You not only write on your own blog, and guest posts, but also do writing for others.

PLR’s come in handy when people sit and stare at their computers for a while and just cannot get an idea.

I find that I use them a lot when emailing. Not the entire PLR per se, but some of the content written in my own words.

    Hi Donna,

Happy Easter! Let me start by wishing you and David, though it’s Monday our end already, but wishes, anytime, are always welcome, isn’t it?

Coming to the post, I know what you mean about how crazy bloggers can get, especially when it comes to writing blog posts! For some it’s a piece of cake, while for others, it’s an uphill task! I get a lot of new bloggers asking me the same question – as to how to write quick posts or how to keep the consistency in blogging? It’s not easy, if you are not regular with your writing – in-fact, there are no two ways about it. The more you write, the better you become.

Lol…you know writing is never an issue with me, nor the inspiration or lack of ideas! I have too many piled up and keep penning them down, to keep away for their time, as and when their turn comes. That’s because of the vast niches at my blog, which means I need to take up all of them one after the other. But if I had to write posts daily, I wonder how it would be – never tried that and it definitely would drive me nuts!

I’ve heard of PLR, though never tried them ever – never felt the need to so far, being a writer perhaps. For me to take an old post and add my own voice in-between, or even research matter to add to it would be tedious! I’d go faster with the usual research and writing, and faster still, if it’s something I just need to write, based on my own experience. Perhaps I type rather fast, so the flow of words isn’t a problem. However, it’s not the case with most bloggers, and for them, it would work I guess.

I just hope the content is not duplicated, as you mentioned, for which they need to add their voice and little more to make it look like their posts. More so, if you are putting up daily posts or sometimes even more than that, then you do need something like the PLR sites you mentioned. I’d check out the one you recommend too, just to gain more of knowledge about it.

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

      Hi Harleena,

Thank you for your Easter wishes. David and I were working at a minimum prior to that day for religious purposes. A lot of praying goes on in my faith. But it sure feels great to sit in silence and ponder how to be a better human being.

As for this post, I have no doubt that you being a writer must have so many ideas that creates a whirlwind in your mind. You always share excellent information with a great writing style. I could imagine you sitting in front of that keyboard with your fingers flying across it lol.

There have been some people who have asked me about content. Where to find it, how to come up with it and so on. This is why I had to create this post.

Not only for blog content, but emails, and some were writing ebooks and wanted to gain some information.

As long as the content is not duplicated, it is fine. I find that PLRs are great when one has to do a lot of writing, but it is only an “idea” one can use. But people need to use their own voice.
