I’m going a little off-beat in this post to share with you about the law of attraction, and how it played out in my true life story.
It started when I realized I’ve been over worked.
I was at my doctor’s office and he asked me if I have a vacation planned for the Autumn.
Now, I live in “Vacation Land” where Summer is amazing and I beach walk every day.
So going away in the Summer doesn’t make any sense at all.
Special: Start Your New Blog in 3 Easy Steps
I pondered this question and started to think about how long it’s been since the last time I was on vacation… a real vacation, not just a “visit with friends and family” event.
I have traveled over the years across the country for business and to visit family.
But I was ready for something different.
So I decided to do what I always can depend on… I wrote a list.
My Law Of Attraction List
I know that whenever I do this the law of attraction kicks in and things start flowing in more easily.
I wanted the following:
Going to either Puerto Rico or the Bahamas.
The hotel needed to be one with a spa.
I wanted to be served especially in the morning where someone wheels in an amazing breakfast that I can eat on the deck while viewing the ocean.
Special: Start Your New Blog in 3 Easy Steps
I wanted all my meals cooked for me.
I didn’t want to make the bed at all.
It would be amazing for a person to follow me around to be at my beck and call, to carry my towels and lounge chair to the beach.
I envisioned myself leisurely walking the beach, stopping at some little bars that make amazing drinks.
I wanted to just relax and enjoy life for a few days without thinking about anything.
So you get the idea right?
Now, I started visualizing this.
It would be sometime in November after the hurricane season.
It will be nippy here in Maine and a perfect time for us to spend 10 days away, totally unplugged.
Yes…that was part of it, too.
Special: Start Your New Blog in 3 Easy Steps
Here comes the Law of Attraction…
The other day I was leaving my home, phone in my hand.
I missed a step and flew about eight feet through the air… yep you read that right!
I landed on the hood of my car and slid right into the windshield.
No, it didn’t break, but I held on to my phone like an infant child.
It survived.
I did, too.
But it wasn’t pretty.
I gave a loud “OW!” as the neighbors spied on me (embarrassing moment).
Special: Start Your New Blog in 3 Easy Steps
I peeled myself from the hood as David turned around to see what had happened.
I tried to regain my footing, but my leg gave way.
Now, I’m a trooper.
I just figured I would work off the pain.
But an hour later, it got worse.
I ended up in the Hospital ER and found out I somehow twisted and sprained a ligament.
Yes, very painful.
Getting back to that Law of Attraction…
Special: Start Your New Blog in 3 Easy Steps
I’m not in the islands, but still in the beautiful beach area I call home.
I won’t be going to a spa any time soon, but instead – physical therapy.
I’m being served like a queen because I need to stay off my feet.
David is running around as bringing me everything I need.
The poor guy has to be at my beck and call, day and night until I’m weight bearing.
I can walk on my crutches, but shopping, strolling and bar visits are definitely out.
I’m totally off my feet and not able to tend to much business.
.
It all adds up to an outcome that pretty closely resembles everything that was on my vacation dream list.
But it’s not at all the scenario I was dreaming of.
So. my dear friends. be careful what you do when working on your Law of Attraction.
You just may get exactly what you need, even if it’s a bit scrambled up.
I just wish someone would have taken a video of me flying through the air, lol.
There you have it… my true life Law of Attraction Faux Pas.
How are you at attracting the things you want in life?
I’d love to hear from you and would especially be interested in reading any of true life stories of how you screwed up your Law of Attraction.
There is nothing like a True Life Story!

Oh my dear Donna. Although I loved how you shared your experience and lesson, I hate to hear that you had an accident and I hope that you are mending well.
I have tons of similar examples but the one that I will share is how my friend thoughtfully created a list to attract the perfect man for her to marry. The man she recently married is everything that she asked for–except for his race. She jokingly tells everyone that ‘she forgot to ask God to make him Black’ (he is Caucasian) LOL.

I love the example you shared. This is how I met David. I was so fed up with going out with the same kind of man over and over again. I wrote down a list…it took a month. When I met him, he met all the specifications.
But I did screw up. I had a crazy ex husband and no one would have understood that. So I put in my list that he had to have a screwy ex himself. He did. It took a while, but we are friends now. lol
I tell that one all the time!

Strange as this seems, Joe Vitale talked about something similar happening to him. He’d been working really hard and was telling people how tired he was. Out of the blue he had a heart attack, and once he recovered he was told to rest for the next 3 months. He got what he needed, if not in a way he’d been expecting it.
Still… I’d rather have at least a bit more control than that. 🙂 Hope you’re taking care of yourself.
Mitch Mitchell recently posted..The Quest For Blog Speed, Part Two
Hi Mitch,
Wow…poor thing. I didn’t know Joe had a heart attack. It is usually preceded by low energy and many other “signs” sometimes.
When it comes to things like this and the LOA, there is something to that mind over matter energy. This is why whenever I start thinking in the negative, I usually self talk my way back to the positive. Not fearing, but keeping control.
What happened to me was a fluke, but here I am healing very slowly. Got my first cortisone shot in my knee the other day OUCH but it is helping. I do have to learn the virtue of patience from this.

LOA does not always work as many think it is a secondary law. We often get what we need and good
it was not worse . Often we see the reason looking back.I am always excited about this when something unexpected happens, something to learn from 🙂 Are you sure that what you did write down was what you really wanted?

Echoing everyone else, I saw your post on FB.
As much as I feel bad that it happened to you, you’ve made good use of the experience and turned it into an interesting and thought-provoking piece of work.
I’m not going to comment much on LOA because while I feel I understand aspects of it, as far as I’m concerned, there’s still quite a bit of mystery to it.
All I know is that while you experienced an unfortunate accident, you’re in a position to be well cared for and surrounded by a lot of support.
Maybe from an LOA perspective, since you give away so much love, it is undoubtedly returned to you.

Hi Dana,
Because I received so much feedback on Facebook, I just had to continue this on a blog post. Just like your last post of how to deal with life when it bitch slaps you, it is sort of a parody.
Call it LOA…or whatever….when shit happens we have to look into why and our reaction to it.
Now I could have chosen to play the “poor me” routine – not in my character – But I’m sure I would have had flowers delivered to my home and all that. But instead, my knee jerk reaction (pardon the pun) was to laugh at it.
After the doctors visit, trying to give me silly pills, I refused. I think I drove them crazy Dana. I asked them how much the Advil they wanted to give me was. When they had no answer I refused it. Just a matter of principle and control over my own body. But hey…
I wanted people to know that now matter what happens in life…laughter is the best medicine and we can learn from it.

Well that LOA is a part of life. Call it that, call it Mind over Matter – as I usually do because that’s the name of my offline business lol. But what we think can actually manifest.
So the message here is to catch ourselves when we start thinking negatively and turn it into positive..

Hi Donna. Thanks for sharing your story. Like many of the others, I saw your post about your “flight” on FB. I love it when people talk about the Law of Attraction because I think there are as many different understandings of what it is as there are people who have heard of the term. I would read Ryan Biddulph’s take on the LoA any time because I know he’s living it. Kelli’s blog is the best I have found on LoA and he sometimes writes a guest post there.
I especially love it when I see people suggest that the Law of Attraction is optional. Like I can go 60 in a 35 MPH zone and tell the cop after he pulls me over that I decided not to use that law today. It’s always on and you’re always “using” it. It’s just a question of whether you are using it consciously or unconsciously. Most people are using it unconsciously and against themselves.
Your exercise to build a list of what you wanted and then visualizing it is great. I’m trying to get my wife to do something like that to shift the energy where she works. It has gotten a bit challenging for them there lately.
It sounds like it worked really fast for you, though not in exactly the way that you pictured it. The gurus always say that it will come to you when you least expect it and in a way that you don’t picture. I guess that was very true in your case. I hope you are recovering well and thanks for sharing something different.
Ben recently posted..What Your Body Needs – Building Materials
Hi Ben,
Every action has a reaction…from our minds consciously or unconsciously. It just is a fact. So from this view the LOA is always in effect. We just have to realize it. And when we screw things up, we have to learn from it. And when we learn from it we have to have a good sense of humor about it because that’s the way it is.
Now this whole thing started from a suggestion from my therapist ….yes I like to bitch and complain to those I pay to do it. I don’t like putting out negative energy or frustrations to others. My therapist gets paid to let me vent. And has some good suggestions for me while he observes and catches things I say that I am not aware of.
So …he told me I needed a vacation because of ….bla bla bla So you see this started from someone else’s suggestion not me. Maybe that’s why I took a flying leap.
What I love most about the LOA is that it is constantly teaching me. This entire event didn’t come from me but from another.
To your health!

Hi Donna,
Well, that’s enough to put me off “The Law of Attraction” for good 🙂
Seriously though you’ve been so lucky to get away with that bad fall and I’m so glad those angels were there to hold you.
I’m another one who tends to charge about and go flying. I’ve had three bad falls that I can think of in the last four years and been 99% unscatched. Although I do have a bit of a lump on my head after the most recent one. Probably there as a reminder to slow down.
Anyway, glad you’re enjoying a little bit of TLC now from David and wish you completely better as soon as possible.

I forgot to include the variable that we are about to enter a Mercury Retrograde next week. Now when that comes along..things go so well with me. But the week before I experience all the “warnings” one must consider to be aware of….like not doing two things at once lol.
I just had to write this because I do write things down and visualize and can call it the LOA. But…I didn’t finish and it was a “sign” to me to slow down and make another plan.
At least I can laugh at myself and that is the essence of this post…sometimes we just have to laugh instead of getting into a negative space which holds us back.

Hello Donna,
Its my first time over your space. It reminds me of a Friend who used to wish something very precisely as if giving even grain details to God so that things don’t mess up. We used to laugh at him. Interesting take on law of attraction.
H Upsana,
I just went over to your place and you seem to have such a wonderful personality and great writing skills for both your blogs!
Your friend was on the right track, but when dealing with God…One Always has to put in “if it is your will” because we cannot get so precise with the big one! Plus it shows we are respectful and humble.
The Law of Attraction works that way too…we have to be precise..but we also have to visualize along side of it.
The question is: Is it Really for our benefit? I love to ponder.

Donna,
As always, I enjoyed reading your post. Even when you had a painful embarrassing situation, you were able to turn it into a lesson to share with the rest of us. You are amazing!
I wasn’t expecting the story to take the turn that it did. But I get your point; we my unconsciously bring these types of events about unwittingly by the way we focus.
Universal Laws are very interesting to me. When you have them clear in your mind and your heart, then, you can manifest anything you want.
Enjoy your break… it won’t last long! Hopefully you will heal very quickly!
Deborah
Hi Deborah,
There are universal laws and we all call them by different names. Here I use the Law of Attraction because it hit me that way (pardon the pun)
I wanted to share this experience to show others that what we think consciously or unconsciously has cause and effect. OK..so I studied too much Parapsychology in my day and this makes me love this issue.
But it is so true that we can manifest certain things in our lives. If we look closely we can see it all the time. When I’m manifesting I always put my “insurance policy” in and that is “if it is God’s will so mote it be” Gotta put in that higher energy.
Now it is time for me to see things unfold and they are already. Amazing stuff!

Hi Donna,
What a fresh take on things.
I see the LOA as perfect place, perfect time. Always. But my ego fights me on this.
Example; last month I dove heavily into EFT tapping. I addressed the anxiety/terror/panic I had in regards to losing money, then as I tapped deeper, into losing everything in my life.
This created some highly unpleasant feelings – ok who’m I kidding? I yelled and punched walls and cried like crazy LOL – but after I did that, a number of things happened.
#1 – I attracted the ideas and did the things to lead to some astounding SEO victories for my blog. Just 20 minutes ago my recent post reached page 1 on Google for:
“How to rank on page 1 of Google”.
This is after reaching page 1 of Google last week for:
“how to submit a guest post”.
All of which happened because you alerted me to ranking on page 1 for:
“marketing your blog the right way”.
It’s insane, but now I’ve ranked for 1 super competitive keyword and 1 HYPER competitive keyword, most coveted by just about every blogger, internet marketer and heck, anybody with online real estate, on earth.
But the flip side is I’ve manifested situations that demanded I deal with my intense fear of losing everything too, which were difficult to grasp in the moment. My fab new design had some serious bugs on mobile devices and even on laptops, so 10 seconds after publishing last week’s post I started getting emails that my site looked really bad on mobile. Stressed the sh*t out of me, at first. Feared losing the awesome design I felt I had.
I then dealt with the anxiety/panic/intense worry I had fought with for months/years, debating about giving 1 free eBook away freely, even though I have 126, because I feared losing sales/everything by so doing. Felt the panic, and decided to do it anyway.
Of course, my list is growing quite nicely – and with less effort – after doing this and the good old LOA showed me again, based on how I felt after I manifested stuff, the perfect place and time I was always at to create this stuff.
Really fun post Donna. The Universe seems to have a hearty sense of humor sometimes, right?
Ryan
Ryan Ryan Ryan…..
As I read along your comment the word “fear” jumped out at me like a wild cat scratching my face.
We all have it and as one sensitive to another…it does bring out that anxiety/depression and a few holes in the wall lol. But my dear friend I think it is time to focus on that.
You are doing such a wonderful job and creating so much since I first met you long ago. That fear is deep routed and doesn’t belong to you anymore because of your spiritual growth. So…if you want, take my humble advice: try some rapid eye movement therapy to rid the fear and replace it with fearlessness.
I only say this because I’ve done it myself. No matter how much NLP, hypnosis, and every thing else I’ve tried to rid a problem that is deep routed, the Rapid Eye Movement Therapy worked like a charm.
