Do you have the determination to succeed at blogging?

Sheer determination makes some people persist, when others would just quit.

If you don’t have the determination to succeed at blogging, you are facing an uphill struggle.

So whether or not you have the determination to succeed at blogging is a question you must answer for yourself

There’s no doubt that determination is the key to succeed with your blog, or in your online business.

Now, let’s talk about some ways that you can create and harness that determination.

Take control

People often think of determination as a blunt drive forward no matter what the consequences.

It’s a power play.

But that only tells part of the story.

To “determine” what actions you will take, is to determine your future.

It’s taking control of what will happen to you, or to your business in the case of blogging.

determination to succeed at blogging

Notice from the definition I grabbed with a Google search, that to determine to do something is to take control.

You are making a decision as to how you want things to play out.

And the very act of making that decision can cause things to happen in a particular way.

So, yes, YOU have control over what happens.

That, in itself, constitutes your determination to succeed at blogging..

Motivation

Your determination to succeed is rooted deeply in your underlying motivation.

When you get stuck trying to write a blog post, or an email or an ebook… what makes you keep at it until you’ve done it?

I’m not talking about writing the best blog post in the world.

Or the greatest email or most impressive ebook.

If you’ve done 10 video takes and they all suck, what makes you determined to keep at it until maybe the 11th works out good enough to publish on YouTube?

You know it would be easier to just quit.

Sure, you could tell yourself “this just isn’t for me,” or “there’s gotta be an easier way.”

But instead of the excuses, you know you’ve got to persevere until you’ve accomplished it.

Why?

I’d answer that question with another question.

What motivated you to keep at it?

There’s your answer.

Whatever motivated you is what you need to turn to whenever things get rough.

That will help you find the determination to succeed at blogging.

But first, you’ll have to find your motivation.

Find your motivation

Everyone has their own motivation.

Maybe your motivation is a desire to quit your job.

Or maybe it’s your belief in your abilities.

Maybe you’re trying to stop putting limits on yourself.

Or it could be that you’re just tired of quitting and are determined to finally break through your repeated pattern of failure.

How Can I Break Through Endless Failure

Find your motivation and embrace it.

It’s your greatest path to the determination you will need to succeed at blogging.

Get Clarity

It does no good to be “determined” if you’re confused about what you’re doing.

What are you trying to achieve online?

Do you want recognition in your job, financial freedom, a following for your cause?

I can’t begin to tell you all the different things people are looking to achieve online.

But it doesn’t really matter, does it?

The only thing you need to focus on is your strategy for achieving it.

So what’s your strategy?

Do you have a clear path forward?

Or are you stumbling around trying to figure it out as you go along?

Your determination to succeed at blogging requires that you know where you’re heading, and to have a clear idea as to how to get there.

Get on the right road

Think of driving from New York to Seattle.

If you’ve done your research, you will know exactly what roads you intend to travel on to reach Seattle.

Imagine driving down the first highway you found and just hope it will get you to Seattle?

If you did that, you’d probably be quickly persuaded to get on a different road, wouldn’t you?

You stop at a restaurant and the waitress tells you to go a different way if you want to get there.

Somebody else tells you yet a different highway.

What do you do?

You’re not clear, so you’ll move cautiously along one route, and at the first sign of doubt, you’ll switch over to another one.

It’s hard to be determined to obtain a specific result when you have little or no clarity as to what you’re doing, and as to whether or not it’s the right thing to be doing.

So make sure you have a good strategy for moving forward.

Give it a little testing time, if you want.

But find something you can really feel confident in, and keep at it with determination to succeed.

Get real

Expect many challenges to reaching your long-term goals.

Don’t expect everything to fall into place easily, over night.

That’s reality.

If you are working within a realistic framework, the only expectations you can have are for lots of hard work.

Quick success is extremely rare, and certainly not realistic.

Your determination to succeed at blogging, and put in the hard work necessary is the reality you need to work within.

Because that’s usually the only formula that works.

If you are realistic about the challenges you will face, then you can be determined to overcome them.

Otherwise, you’ll just figure something is wrong when you run up against a brick wall.

That’s a very tempting time to quit because you didn’t expect things to be so tough.

It’s going to be hard to develop a persistent work ethic if you believe everything should just quickly and easily fall into place.

Build a team

Speaking of reality, understand that you’re not likely to build a successful online business on your own.

You need a team to help you.

That means people you could hire to get things done.

Especially things you’re not too good at yourself.

Or things you don’t have time to learn.

Instead of getting derailed because there are too many things to do, put others on your team to help you.

Then, instead of caving in when things get overwhelming, you can rely on others to help out so you can persist in mastering the things you do best.

Build a support system

You should also build your team with people who offer software, services and systems to help you run your business.

For instance, you could manually send out emails to 10 people who are following our blog.

Just go to Gmail and send them a note.

But can you do that for 100 people?

How about 1,000 and more?

Of course not.

But you can send an email to 100,000 in about 5 minutes if you have signed on to an autoresponder service.

Makes sense, right?

Get the right systems in place to support your business.

Meanwhile, you keep moving forward with your own unique talents and skills.

Never compromise on your determination to succeed at blogging.

Get Coaching

At many points in your business, you are going to find that you absolutely must have the help of other people.

Probably the most important person to hire is a coach.

Are you building a blog or an e-commerce site, for instance?

Do you know how to drive traffic to it?

Should you buy ads, or use free methods?

And oh yeah…

how do you buy ads?

Or develop free methods?

And the list just goes on and on and on.

Sure, you could figure all this out over a few years.

But do you really want to take that long?

And don’t forget, a lot of the things you “figure out” will be outdated by the time you do.

Whether you’re

  • blogging,
  • affiliate marketing,
  • developing a website to get clients for your professional practice,
  • starting an e-commerce business…

you need help in order to support your determination to achieve your big goal of succeeding at blogging.

That means, you need to get a good coach on board to help you accomplish your goals as fast as possible, with the least headaches, and within your budget.

With a good coach, comes a solid strategy, a real plan outlined in the form of a daily blueprint and clear vision.

You can then implement the strategy with confident determination, knowing that you are

  • on the right path,
  • doing the right thing, and
  • moving your business in the right direction.

Outreach

People I’ve worked with who are truly determined to succeed, don’t live in their own little bubbles.

You have to reach out to your peers.

If you’re a blogger, get out of your blogging bubble and connect with other bloggers.

How to get out of your blogging bubble

Affiliate marketers need to get to know other people in the industry, both affiliates and vendors.

Open your vision.

Don’t pretend you live and work in your own little world.

Become part of something bigger.

Build a tribe

Find or build a “tribe” (a core group) of people you can work with closely.

Talk to them.

Share ideas and concerns.

If you’ve run up against an obstacle you can’t seem to get around, seek help and advice from your tribe mates.

And be there for them, too.

When they need help, advice, or just a sounding board, pitch in.

Let them know you care about them, and they’ll reciprocate when the time comes.

Maybe connect with someone to be an “accountability partner” on a specific task.

When you do these things, your world becomes bigger.

You have more support and a bigger “team” to keep you on track.

It’s a lot easier to stick to your determination to succeed at blogging when you’re part of a tribe.

Don’t be a loner.

Daily implementation

Nothing will help build your determination more than working your business every single day.

Avoid taking long breaks from key tasks.

One of my clients had built a pretty nice Twitter following and it really helped drive traffic to her blog.

But those days were past, and Twitter was no longer a big part of her traffic strategy.

I asked her why.

She was puzzled then replied:

“I don’t know. Somehow I just got out of the habit of using it.”

That’s how easy it is to go from being determined to lackadaisical.

This woman had developed and nurtured her Twitter following for several years.

Then, she just got tired of doing it.

Bored, maybe.

Not getting sufficient results, perhaps.

Maybe she was right to stop using Twitter.

But it wasn’t because she made a well thought-out rationale for ditching it.

She just did, and wasn’t even sure why.

You see, if you just keep implementing a strategy every single day, then you own it!

It’s part of what you do.

There’s no such thing as not doing it.

That’s determination.

Do you have the determination to succeed at blogging?

If you want to succeed at anything, you need to be determined.

But you also need to be doing the right things.

Being “determined” to do the wrong things is not going to get you anywhere, except exhausted.

So I really suggest you find a good coach, form a solid strategy, and then implement it.

These are all great, Donna. One area where I see a lot of bloggers and businesses fail is that they skip the “Get Clarity” part. They don’t take the time to understand the WHY part and put together a strategy and steps to help achieve the why. Starting with why is hugely important!

    Hi Donna,

Blogging is not a get-rich-quick business. The results of one labor come gradually, meaning that it takes consistency and determination to become a successful blogger. However, determination also requires applying the right blogging strategies or techniques and learning from top bloggers in your space. It’s ideal that you outlined helpful practices that will enable aspiring bloggers and newbies to succeed in blogging.

      Hi Moss,

Indeed there is no such thing as the get-rich-quick business and blogging isn’t one of them. To become a successful blogger, one must give the best content they can for others. It has to be on a consistent basis. Also it is so important to visit other bloggers and leave a good comment and share. Eventually our blog will grow. We have to have a learning curve to blog correctly.

    Hi Donna,

You need such grit for this gig.

I am entering a new phase of blogging where as my exposure expands, more bloggers are offering me unsolicited advice as to what I am doing wrong, where I am coming up short and all that jazz. Last I looked, I am blogging from the beach in Panama while these bloggers are offering pros unsolicited advice 🙂 But it adds new layers of exploring my inner world, to get clearer on my intent, my journey and my overall blogging campaign because as negative feedback flows in unsolicited you need to learn to let it go.

However, asking for help is key too because we require help, guidance and direction on our journey. Enter coaching as you mentioned, along with your note of building tribes.

But at the end of the day, your full commitment to blogging the right way with the right energy makes all the difference. Bloggers need grit, determination and a willingness to see the journey through no matter what, especially when times get tough.

      Hi Ryan,

Its so great to get feedback from other bloggers offering you advice….good bad or indifferent, it always helps us. It must be so great to be in Panama and growing your blog.

Some won’t ask for help, but it is so important to ask questions from other bloggers, take the positive information and start to transform. We all need help and hiring a coach sometimes gives us a push to spiffy up our blogs.

Indeed, bloggers need grit and determination to continue the process even if things get crazy in our life. Right now I’m sitting near my mom as she is transforming into heaven. I sit by her bedside and keep on blogging. Yea…that takes grit lol.
