Bloggers overcome obstacles in various ways.
Unfortunately, many bloggers just give up at the first hint of difficulty.
Are you facing difficulties that make you want to throw up your hands and walk away from your blog?
If so, it’s probably because you think you can’t possibly overcome the obstacles you face.
Maybe those obstacles involve technology that you can’t handle.
Or they might require you to spend more time than you can afford to spend.
I find this is often the case for bloggers who are working a full-time job.
Could that be you?
Or maybe you’re running your own business.
Whatever the case, the first thing you need to do is to identify the obstacles standing in your way.
The obstacles bloggers face
Here are some very typical obstacles you must face as a blogger.
Unless you figure out ways to overcome them, your blog is not likely to meet with much success.
Technology
This is often a major obstacle for bloggers, and it may be for you.
Do you find it difficult to create landing pages, or set up email marketing campaigns?
Are are you struggling with WordPress or image creation or sales funnel setups?
How about securing your web page against malicious threats, integrating video into your blog posts?
You might even find it a challenge to create and edit video for your blog.
Content creation
Do you find it difficult to create content?
This is a major obstacle for many bloggers.
You might not know what to write about from day to day, week to week or month to month.
Sure, it’s pretty easy when you first start your blog.
You have some major themes and ideas you’re anxious to blog about.
But as time goes on, it gets more and more of a challenge to come up with topics that will keep your readers engaged.
Topics you haven’t already written about, that is.
And then you have to write in some detail, come up with good images and find other expert sources to link to.
There’s a lot involved in content creation, and it can certainly become one of bloggers’ biggest obstacles.
Blog post promotion
After you’ve written your blog post, you need to promote it, right?
You can’t just produce content and then fail to market it.
After all, that’s how you get your blog in front of your audience.
That’s how you market to new audiences so that your following is always expanding.
You don’t want your blog to become stagnant.
So you need to aggressively and consistently promote your blog posts.
If you don’t know how to get around this obstacle, as many bloggers don’t, then you can really slow down the growth of your business.
Building an email list
The most important part of blogging is building an email list.
Yet, it’s also one of the biggest obstacles for bloggers.
Are you building a good email list on your blog?
And by “good,” I mean productive, not big.
The size of your email list has little to do with it’s value to your business.
You can get a lot of people to join your email list, but if they’re not opening your email messages, then they’re not making your email list productive.
If they’re not clicking links that you’ve embedded into your email messages, they’re not helping your business grow.
Some of the best email lists I’ve seen are relatively small.
But they have really high open and click-through rates.
And the bloggers who get that kind of engagement actually start getting customers and clients from their email list.
That’s what you’re looking for.
And if your email list is not growing, and not getting you those kinds of results, then it has become a blogging obstacle you need to overcome.
Develop strategies
One way you can overcome these bloggers’ obstacles is to develop clear strategies for reaching your goals.
You can’t just hope things will work out for you.
Carefully map out those strategies that can make your blog a success.
These are strategies that are well-researched, and that have been proven to work.
When you hit an obstacle, stop to see what others have done to overcome the same problem.
What strategies did they develop or immitate that got them through the rough spots?
Now, see how that strategy might work for you, too.
Give it a try.
Don’t just complain that you’ve reached an obstacle that is stopping you dead in your tracks.
Do something about it.
If one strategy doesn’t work for you, then try another.
Or tweak it until it does work for you.
Eventually, you’ll get the experience you need to start developing your own strategies.
Those strategies will probably borrow from those you’ve seen others use.
But you’ll need to twist and turn them until they become a perfect fit for you.
Accomplish tasks consistently
One of the biggest obstacles bloggers face is staying on track with daily tasks.
A strategy is a broad overview of what you need to do.
For instance, connecting with people in your niche on Instagram is a strategy that might make sense for you.
But that strategy is then broken down into smaller parts.
Posting daily to your Instagram feed is one of those parts.
And it’s something you have to do every single day if you want the strategy to pay off for you.
Just doing it occasionally, or when you’re “in the mood” is not good enough.
To overcome this obstacle, you need to hold your feet to the fire and consistently do the things required to obtain the results you want.
Don’t procrastinate
This seems so obvious, yet it continues to be a major obstacle for bloggers to overcome.
You have to do so many things to get your blog off the ground, or to elevate it to higher levels.
But isn’t it just so much easier to put those things off for “another day?”
Of course it is.
Maybe you want to build a bigger email list on your blog.
So you decide people want to know more about a particular thing.
All you need now is a squeeze page offering people a free ebook that will teach them about that.
But, wait.
Before you create your squeeze page, you need to have that ebook written, right?
Now, how do you write an ebook?
What should you talk about?
And how about links to products and services?
Should you include those in your ebook?
What technology will you use to create your ebook?
And how will you actually deliver it to people when they subscribe to your email list to get your free ebook?
Well, the simplest thing you can do is to tell yourself that it’s just all too much to undertake this project “at this time.”
You’ll do it after you’ve looked into it more.
Or when you have “more time.”
These are classic procrastination techniques.
Many bloggers use them all the time to avoid actually accomplishing what they had initially set out to do.
But procrastination is a major obstacle for bloggers.
You’ll need to get past it.
Face your fears
Fear is the bloggers’ obstacle that overrides all the others.
Bloggers frequently fear technology, SEO, audience acquisition, audience retention, traffic flow, list-building, visitor conversion to subscriber, subscriber conversion to client or customer, video production, social media clout and a whole lot of other things.
Fear is okay if you can manage it.
But let’s face it, fear is the king of bloggers’ obstacles.
That’s why you have to face all your fears.
And you have to find a way to work through them.
Even if it requires you to go around, under or above them.
Just find your path for going past your fears and keep on track with your goals.
How bloggers overcome obstacles
As a blogger, you will encounter many stumbling blocks.
The ways you encounter and navigate them will define your business.
So work diligently on developing the strategies that will elevate your blog.
Develop a blueprint for success.
Implement it daily, despite your fears, inadequacies and misgivings.
This is how pro bloggers overcome obstacles.
How do you overcome yours?

Hi Donna,
Nice post on blogging obstacles! I’ve been blogging for a decade now and I agree, that procrastination is the main hurdle I faced a lot of times; sometimes you just don’t feel like working and keep delaying some tasks.
Thanks for sharing!

Great post Donna. One of my biggest obstacles when blogging is coming up with new ideas for content. To combat this issue, I try to find the smallest topics related to my sites and create long-form content around them. It usually takes pulling ideas from a variety of sources, but I get it done. It usually takes me 1 1/2 hours to write a nice post for the blogs that I own.
