Blogging is the Best Way to Live the Laptop Lifestyle

Blogging is the best way to live the laptop lifestyleSomebody asked me the other day why I teach that blogging is the best way to live the laptop lifestyle.

What do you think?

Do you agree that blogging is the best way to live the laptop lifestyle?

Some people teach other ways.

The truth is, you can make a lot of money doing lots of things online.

But for me, whatever business you’re trying to run online, blogging is the key element that holds it all together.

If you want to have a laptop lifestyle, I think you begin with blogging.

What Is The Laptop Lifestyle?

Well, it’s a lifestyle that allows you freedom.

And freedom to work when you want, where you want, and what you want to work on.

It’s even about being able to stop everything from time to time and regroup your energy and your focus.

This kind of independence is a very compelling reason to work online.

And it’s certainly a great reason to run a successful blogging business.

What does it take to live a laptop lifestyle?

Well, really, it’s not nearly as complicated as people usually make it.

  • What do you have to offer people?
  • What problems can you help people in your niche solve?
  • How can you help them?
  • With your training?
  • With your coaching?
  • By introducing them to affiliate products and programs that would benefit them?

Maybe you have a professional practice in which you are already helping people.

So, helping people to solve their problems and have a better life.

It all starts there.

If you can help people in your niche, you can enjoy a laptop lifestyle.

But it takes some work to put all the pieces together.

Your blog is at the heart of all this.

What can you do to help the people in your niche?

What can you put together to help people?

You might have a

  • training
  • coaching program
  • service
  • ebook
  • video
  • webinar

Something that can help people learn something, or do something that will make a difference in their lives.

I talk to an awful lot of people and here’s one thing I’ve found.

The Desire To Be Meaningful

Most of them really want to make a difference in people’s lives.

They want to do something meaningful.

I want to say that a great many people who coach with me are far more heart-centered than business-centered.

But somewhere along the line, their hearts have been overwhelmed with life stuff.

Instead of following their passion, they’ve had to do things that don’t give them freedom of purpose.

Maybe they have to work a job that has nothing to do with living their passion.

Or they might have been

  • called to do care-taking for a loved one, or
  • gotten caught up in a destructive addiction, or
  • simply been beaten up by trying and failing at too many things, or
  • just about any other diversion… I’ll bet you can list a bunch.

Searching For a Breakthough

These people have a lot of heart, but their hearts may have been crushed.

They want to live a laptop lifestyle, but are convinced that they can’t.

So even though they try, their efforts are weak and random.

They lack strength, resolve and confidence.

And they just haven’t learned how they can actually break through endless failure.

But, still, with the right help and guidance, they can overcome the obstacles that have been holding them back.

Your Personal Brand

So, here’s where the magic is.

You can start living the laptop lifestyle as soon as you get your personal brand in front of people whose lives you can improve.

So, first you need to have a very clear sense of

  • who you are
  • how you can help people
  • what your personal brand is

Then, you must know… or find out… who your target audience is.

Once you’ve done this, you’re positioned perfectly to make magic happen.

Now, you truly have what you need to stand out in a crowd.

You are, literally, sitting on the very edge of the laptop lifestyle.

So how about it…

  • do you know who your audience is?
  • what is the message, the promise, you are giving them?

Special: Join Donna’s Free VIP Blogging Club – Free Now… Free Forever

For instance…

If your audience is people who want to improve their golf game…

  • what are you telling them you can do to help them with that?
  • what Big Benefit are you promising to deliver to them?

Make Your Mark

If you’re a dentist providing general dental care, you might find it difficult to stand out in the crowded field of all the dentists who are doing basically the same thing.

But

  • if you have a special technique to help reduce gum disease…
  • you will have a special appeal to people suffering from that.

If you are teaching people how to do email marketing, you’re going to have an awful lot of competition, even if you believe you’re better at it than most others.

But

  • if you have a special formula that people can use to increase their open rates or conversions…
  • you’ll stand out to people having trouble in those areas.

You see, you need to have

Something that defines what you do, and what you can do to help your followers.

Your Signature Product or Service

I call it a “signature” product or service because it is as much a part of your “signature” as your name, your Facebook page, your blog or anything else.

It becomes HOW people identify you.

Sure, they know your name.

They know the name of your blog.

But do they know YOU…

  • what you do
  • what main service you provide
  • or what your Big Idea is that differentiates you from all the others in your niche.

That’s what your signature product will do for you.

Sponsored Ad

Build Your Email List …

It will make you much more than just a name.

It will make you an indispensable part of the success and happiness of people in your crowd, your audience, your following.

Your Core Message

So, how do you let people know about your signature product or service?

Well, sure, you list it on your blog.

That’s key.

People will love your blog when they instantly get the idea of how you can help them.

They’ll see your invitation to get your signature product.

It will be in

  • a side widget, or a
  • text link, or a
  • banner, or
  • your About Me page.

It will be everywhere they look.

And even if they’re not interested in buying or joining something at the moment, they will have been exposed to your personal brand.

They will know who you are and what you do, beyond just your name.

And you bring this signature product to the attention of everyone you can in your target audience.

Do that by broadcasting your “core message” which includes your signature product.

Get that core message out.

Tell people how you can help them.

Drive Your Audience To Your Blog

Deliver your core message on Facebook, YouTube, in a podcast, interview or infographic.

Take it to whatever platform and media form will appeal to your specific audience… the people who need what you are offering.

But from there… here’s the magic…

Drive everybody back to your home base… your blog!

As they consume your core message regularly on your blog, they will be constantly reminded about your signature product or service.

Blogging is the Best Way to Live the Laptop Lifestyle

That’s it.

Do these things and your blog will be perfectly positioned to help you grow

  • a following,
  • an audience, and
  • a prospect base.

By continually building on that base, you will be able to convert your blog visitors into your buyers, customers, clients, patients or whatever.

Now, as they say… “rinse and repeat.”

Just keep that ball rolling.

Always be putting your brand in front of a new crowd.

Deliver your core message to your audience, wherever they are.

Drive them to your blog.

Then, just keep blogging to perpetually promote your signature product or service.

Now, you’re living that laptop lifestyle.

But tell me this… How does it feel?

How far will you take it?

Do you agree that blogging is the best way to live the laptop lifestyle?

I’d love to hear your comments below.

    Hi Donna,

What a lovely post! Blogging surely is the best way to live the laptop lifestyle. I have been blogging for the past 12 months and I have found so much peace in it.

I don’t have to attend my office everyday on time so that I don’t get called up by my manager. I don’t have to work under anybody anymore. I can be as creative as possible. I can meet fellow bloggers and exchange ideas with them.

Furthermore, it gives you immense satisfaction when you are able to help others in some way or the other. Their appreciation means a lot. It gives you motivation to keep moving forward.

Thanks for sharing this lovely post. Have a great day. 🙂

    Hey Donna,

Really amazing article. I have started blogging last year in September and ever since its been a bumpy ride. I had some good days and some okay days.
But it is important to keep hustling.
Thank you an amazing piece of content.

    Hi Hassaan,

    You do what you love.

    Blogging is a business.

It’s not always the easiest business in the world to keep up with.

So if you don’t really love what you’re doing then you’re probably going to wear thin pretty quickly right?

As for people who do free blogs on free sites – I think a lot of them just enjoy writing and having something to show their friends and family.

That’s fine but of course it’s not the kind of “pro-blogging” that I talk about on this blog.

That’s “hobby blogging” and is really kind of like writing a private journal.

By the way, I agree with you… we bloggers are a lucky group, aren’t we 🙂

    Hi Donna,

I genuinely believe that we (pro-bloggers) are fortunate people on earth. See, not only do we write blogs because we love doing it, but we often build businesses around something we like so much.

I sometimes feel bad for some people who run free blogs on WordPress and Blogger without even a custom domain and post after months. Look, I’m empathic to them; if they like to do that, way to go, but if they do it, but they don’t care much, that’s where I feel bad for them. They should do something better with their time.

    Are you getting my point?

We’re lucky because we love what we do.

I always say, “Love what you do or find what you love.”

So the answer is that I agree that blogging is the great way to live a laptop lifestyle.

    Hi Donna,

I think a blogging lifestyle is definitely catching on and I agree that it’s a great lifestyle. Of all the online businesses out there blogging has to be the one that gives us the work-life balance we’re looking for, whatever that may be for us as an individual.

And Gaurav said it best when he wrote ‘we’re serving people and earning a living’. It can’t get any better than that! 🙂

    Hello Donna

Couldn’t agree more! Blogging is making people able to live a dream life. When I started blogging in 2013, people in my country India rarely knew about it. As the time is passing, almost every 3rd or 4th person owns a blog. I am really impressed by seeing this gradual growth of the blogging community with time.

    Thanks for sharing this article!

      Hi Ritesh,

Yes, blogging is Big… and growing bigger every single day.

The thing is, though… it’s not so important to have a blog… it’s important to use it as a springboard to build your business.

In other words, don’t just blog… blog the right way 🙂

It’s a sweet lifestyle, for sure.

When you tell people that you are living a laptop lifestyle the most common idea that people get is that you spend 90% of your life in front of laptop. People think that we are living as a software of the laptop, but in reality we are living the better life than half of the world population.

Blogging is helpful to make you life a premium blogging lifestyle. Blogging is all about helping people. It is like you are serving people and earning money the same time.

Haha… yes, some people think you must LIVE in front of your computer to live the “laptop lifestyle.”

But as you point out, it really has nothing to do with that.

It has to do with leveraging the power of the internet to help people in your niche.

That’s how you build an online business.

That’s how you live the “laptop lifestyle.”

It’s great for advertising, product reviews and I know several people out here have mentioned that they do a lot of affiliate marketing through their blog.

      That’s all great.

But the primary purpose of your blog is really to build your personal brand.

Use your problem solving content to get people onto your email list.

That becomes really your main way of converting “followers” into “customers” and “clients.”

Blogging is easy but it takes all you got, and then some more to make it work. You have to provide value, learn tactics like email marketing or SEO or writing for that matter and is definitely not for those who want to make easy money.

Yep hands down Donna, blogging is the best way to live the laptop lifestyle.

I chat with digital nomads about this all the time; they run service-based businesses while circling the globe, and try doing so without a site. Are you kidding me!? LOL…..Or folks try to do affiliate marketing thru a squeeze page or biz site, with list building alone. I share how you can do all that stuff and heck, virtually anything, thru a blog. You can sell any product or service thru a blog, you can share any type of content through a blog and you can update blogs quickly and easily. Perfect tool for living the laptop lifestyle.

    Rocking post!

    • Donna Merrill August 9, 2018 at 7:28 am #

      Hi Ryan,

      Well yes.

Blogging is the perfect tool for selling anything.

But it’s way more than just a sales tool.

It’s a way to really connect with people and personally brand yourself as a leader in your field or niche.

nothing does that more than a Blog.

It’s like in the “old days” people used to look for experts as being people who “wrote the book.”

Now they look for their experts and authorities as people who are bloggers.

So it may not be your primary Sales Tool, but your blog certainly is your primary branding tool.

      Hi Lisa,

So to increase conversions on your blog yes you got to do some work on your site.

Your site must be set up to get people to join your email list and become acquainted with your core message.

But you also have to get away from your blog in order to attract people back to it.

This mean social media outreach primarily.

But it can also mean things like podcast interviews in the like.

Good luck with it all, my friend.

    Hi Donna,
As usual, you have presented us another interesting read. I agree with you that blogging is the best way to live a laptop lifestyle. Yes! Blogging is the foundation of all online business. Why do I say? Blogging enables you (as you mentioned) to build a brand identity. Your blog is a powerful marketing tool that provides useful information or content to attract loyal readers and retain them. How dot o retain them, by offering them value-the solution they’re looking for. Then you can easily convert them to leads and customers because they have already build trust on you or your brand. The benefits of blogging are enormous.

    • Donna Merrill August 9, 2018 at 7:04 am #

      Hi Moss,

      Yes you got it.

Get people to your blog and make them regular readers.

But like you say you then have to keep giving them great content meaning solutions to their problems on a regular basis in order to keep them.

Once you’ve done that you have their trust and they should become loyal customers and clients for your products and services.
