REVERSING NEGATIVE THOUGHTS

Reverse Negative ThinkingEveryone gets stuck from time to time, not quite mustering the energy they need to push forward with their job, relationship or project.  This is often just a little bump in the road, a rut or a brief detour.  But sometimes it can take you down a dead end, and totally terminate your journey.

Negative thoughts  become a major barrier to your success when they derail your plans and alter your course permanently.

Here’s a quick method for reversing some of these negative thoughts.

Now, while you can reverse negative thoughts by achieving a series of minor accomplishments, serious episodes may actually indicate that you are on the path to lethargy or even depression.

It’s good to try the method I taught you in the video to prevent minor bouts with negativity from taking root.  But, if they do, a longer term intervention may be necessary.

I’ve actually worked with a fair number of entrepreneurs who have struggled with episodic negativity.  It isn’t easy swimming upstream, trying to develop your own business instead of just grabbing a dime-a-dozen job.  There are many hurdles to clear, not least of which is the constant feeling of being alone in a constant struggle against enormous odds.

I’ll address my approach to some of these more serious episodes with negativity in future articles.

Blessings,

Donna Merrill

This is such a good video Donna. Many business videos that I have come across and gone to from various business groups that I have been in are stark and drab. You and your bubbly personality comes through and it is so easy to see that you are a real person.

Your advice in this video is great and I have written similar posts about taking small steps to allow yourself to feel that boost from an accomplishment.

    Well done!

      Thank you Michael.

I think that when we do a video on our blog, it must be short and sweet.

People don’t want to sit through 10 minutes of a drab video! Not only does it raise your ratings on Google, but if someone actually watches it for a few minutes, Google likes that.

Keep taking those small steps. Eventually you’ll get there with peace and harmony.

    Hi Donna,

Thanks for the tip to switch your mind to doing something different. I don’t want to mess up the video for your readers so I won’t say what it is. You are so right. We all have negative thoughts from time to time and this is a great tip you have shared.

Being in this business, we are bombarded with quotes, pictures, blog posts, and stories of staying positive and feeling empowered. Feeding my mind with positivity is great, however, negative thoughts will surface. Being aware that they are coming from the subconscious helps a lot so I can change the thought, rather than sulk or get rebellious.

Great timing Donna. I’ve been snowed in for the last couple of days. I can choose to be bothered, or I can stay focused on appreciating the time I have. I am using this time to “tie up loose ends” so I feel productive. I don’t have plans of stepping out of the house!

      Hi Raena,

Sometimes being snowed in is a blessing. Yes, you can choose to get all flustered about it OR can appreciate the time to catch up on things.

That is a fine example of this post. Any negative thought can be reversed!
Believe me….I do it all the time.

Sometimes those negative thoughts are neuro-linked to something bigger and we find ourselves uncomfortable, depressed, anxious, etc.

What a wast of time right? So reversing those thoughts and putting them into the positive will keep you happier and healthier.

    Hi Donna

That is such a great tip. Of course we all have negative thoughts. I used to really beat myself up but I have learnt to go with it and do as you say change direction a bit.

I often pick up something and read or go for a walk and clear my head out. This weekend because I have my parents stuff happening I have been in the ocean. That is a really good one for me.

I get the Esther Hicks daily message from Abraham and one thing she says is to reach for something that makes us happy and think of that. I can make that work for me most times.

    Great advice thanks Donna

      Hi Sue,

I know how much you are going through with your parents being ill so far away.

Going to the ocean is so cleansing. Happy you have that in your disposal.

Oh and the Daily “Abraham” messages is a great way to keep your mindset clear and on target.

      You are doing great work!

    Hi, Donna,
Thanks for the blog post. I am so vigilant about the thoughts that I feed my mind, that I really avoid negative people. I don’t even want to listen to negative comments, and I have to check that sometimes because people really want to be heard, and they don’t appreciate that you might now want to hear all of the negative drama others might be caught up in.

Thanks for the options you provide to us.

      Hi Angela,

Do I know how that is like! I avoid negative people and messages like the plague! I even stopped watched TV a while back. Yes, I do like to know what is going on in the world, but I find those talking heads on TV is the number one cause of me getting depressed.

As for negative people? Hey, that is a journey they have to take on their own without me involved. I had to go the extra mile to build boundaries with tons of family and friends.

I refuse drama! It’s like a storm that kicks up and I run for shelter by politely excusing myself and walking away.

Thanks for contributing to my post,

Negativ thinking is really a problem we all face. I started to focus on the things I’m grateful for. For example I write every morning before I go to work in a note book what I’m grateful for in my life. And when I do that then my day is more positive and I think much less about negative aspects in my life.

      Hi Bruno,

Oh that is one of the secrets! I believe that we cannot attract anything in our lives unless we have that grateful mindset.

Once we do, the world is a little brighter, and the day is a little better.

      Thanks for sharing,

Great advice Donna. I’m a pretty positive person, but not infallible. Normally I can weather stumbles and detours pretty well, but when I get tired or overwork myself I can fall victim to negative internal talk like anyone. I’ll definitely keep your technique in mind. Thanks!

      Hi Marquita,

We all fall victim of negative thought. No matter how much we try, no matter of all the techniques we use, it happens.

The important thing is that we can “catch” ourselves doing it. When we do, we can immediately turn it around, so it doesn’t “catch us”

Negative thinking can stop you in your tracks. That’s why I brought up this subject. It is so important to be aware of.

    Hi Donna,

You are so right we all have times where we experience negative thoughts that cause us to become sad and can slow down our progess and success. I like that in the video you suggest that we do a small task to take our mind off of these negative thoughts along with giving us a sense of accomplishment when we complete this task. Thanks so much for encouraging all of us to keep going no matter what obstacles we face.

    Best,

      Hi Shelley,

Yes, one small task can do the trick sometimes. It switches your thinking patterns, especially when overwhelmed. Doing a simple task like washing the dishes – yes as mundane as that – has the beginning, middle, and end result. It gives us and especially our mind a sense of accomplishment.

That technique can help us get our mind off a negative thought. It can reinforce us that we can accomplish a small task, thereby tricking the subconscious.

Plus, you get the dishes done lol

      Donna
